I already pre-ordered the game and want to upgrade my processor accordingly. So which would serve me better, Ryzen 5 1600 or i5 8400?
i5 for sure. Still good with 1060 and 1070(With higher cards better to get i7).

Any idea on the FPS difference between the two? (Considering high settings)
I5 as i said is better, cus it can produce more DC and just has stable work.
I would add at least 8 GB of ram too. Not that you will need it all for the game but if your upgrading, 16gb is the sweet spot for gaming imo

Nvidia is better optimized than AMD. It has faster single and quad-core speed, lower multi-core speed. Better value per price, more recent, but has lower base frequency 2.8GHz compared to 3.2GHz and higher Turbo 4GHz compared to 3.6GHz. It has 6 threads compared to 12 threads. Both have 6-cores. Overall, it is 12% better.
16GB RAM will not be so useful for you. It is recommended for GTX 1070 and higher.
12%? Not sure if it justifies the price difference, but meh I’ll get the i5 anyways. I’m also planning on getting a 1070/1080 within the next 4 months so I might as well get a 16gb stick now!
In that case, you need 16GB, otherwise it’s gonna bottleneck.
