Waldensian Quest keeps failing

Spoiler btw for anyone who hasn’t done it

I find the cross in the small woods at their meeting point and take that to Father Godwin to talk to and he tells me who it belongs to etc., then I go to the farm marked on the map, climb the ladder to the attic, press E to wait, and as soon as the waiting timer is over the quest fails every time. I’ve also gone to the Vicar with the cross and talk to him instead but he also sends me to that farm, I wait, and it fails. I don’t get it. What’s wrong with it?

Have you killed an essential NPC earlier, thus rendering you unable to progress? I’ve heard this can be a major stumbling block, but I’ve yet to experience…

I know there is a time limit on this quest before it auto fails, perhaps you waited too long and that waiting time pushes it to expiration

No, I’ve been playing good guy through my entire playthrough so far, only killed bandits and cumans etc.

That’s what I thought, so I reloaded and older save which was one in-game day before where I’m currently at, lost some progress with some other quests I’ve already done, but the same thing happened. Maybe I have to reload an even older save… and see how that goes. I guess I can always go back to where I’m currently at.

EDIT: Alright, apparently the first older save reload wasn’t old enough. Reloaded an even older one, and the quest worked. Kind of wish it’d tell when a quest is time limited.
