Warband creation - In the style of Mount and blade

I know u have battles but I would really like to see the ability to create your own warbands. You can put a cap on how many, so lets say 20 soldiers. But watching your videos all i can think about is starting as a peasant soldier working his way up in his lords favour. Then he grants me a title and im allowed to raise a small levy. It would be my job to protect a small village, train my soldiers and maintain their kit. Then you find that your village is being threatened by a small bandit band of which you meet in a field outside the town. A shieldwall is formed, javelins and arrows launched as the lines get closer followed by the splinter of shields, the thuds of axes and stabs of swords.

This would mean that your fencing gameplay (which is amazing by the way) would be replaced by a formation fight mechanic. Thrusts and downward slashes would be all that men could do when crushed together in a shield wall. But this would make your game really stand out more than it does. Only one game does that (Mount and blade) but it doesnt do it very well.

Imagine the TV series Vikings. I want that but in this incredible game! Cheers for reading.

I think you will find the game is not a medieval battlefield warfare simulator and your hopes and expectations will turn to disappointment.

I like your reference to M&B (best game ever) and I believe it would to nice to have a small band of mercenaries tagging along with you. It’ll make muti-person fights so much easier. Or just have the M&B mechanic of followers instead? And yes the formations are a good suggestion as well!

I think the idea of going through the ranks in a medieval army is already what they’re going for. They’ve already hinted at the possibilities of “bringing backup” several times, but they have also stated that you wont really have any real-time strategic control. I think it’s going to be more like Skyrim in that regard.

I do really like the idea, though. I’m a big fan of M&B as well. I wouldn’t want it to turn into a strategy game though. Maybe taking control of a small unit of soldiers at most. I’ve personally asked about Large-scale combat AI, but didn’t really get any answer. I’d love to see NPC’s working together in combat scenarios. The shield-wall is a great example. But I think it takes a lot of performance to create an AI, who is both individual and aware of it’s companions, when we’re talking huge battles of historical proportions.

I recall them saying that you will have times where you can bring people along with you… But I also recall them saying you won’t be able to control/command any NPCs.

So…its probably all story/quest driven accompaniment truthfully.

I really hope it isnt like skyrim, which it is turning more and more like. We have skyrim, and we have a multiplayer elder scrolls coming out. Whilst that is fantasy we dont need another copy of it in a realistic setting. Adding soldiers would really make this game stand out like Mount and blade did. Consider it, mount and blade is a terrible game! However, it sold so well because it did something that no other game did. And it really isnt a strategy game. You as the leader form the center of the formation, your men form around you in a given formation. When you move they move to keep formation. The only tricky part as mentioned would the dueling mechanics which are not suited to a battlefield.

If this feature isn’t it wont stop me from buying the game but it will be a huge disappointment.

I feel personally offended by this.[quote=“whistler118, post:6, topic:14447”]

Why not? Also why did you say another? It has never been copied in a realistic setting.
BTW I’m all for strategy (medieval 2 totalwar is probably my favorite game of all time) but I don’t think it fits in the story.

I hope that happens the game will be infinitely more awesome

Ha! I love mount and blade because of how unique it is. However, the game without mods is terrible.

We dont need a copy because if i wanted a story driven RPG game, i would go to skyrim. Yes you are right that there is no realistic RPG which this fills in but thats the only new thing about this game. From a kickstarter i was hoping for more unique, new and innovative ideas than “lets make skyrim but make it realistic”. He said so himelf that if you like, skyrim, mount and blade, dark souls, ect then this game takes all the best bits and puts them in the game. Mount and blades best bit is the army manager and battlefield control.

That’s not the only thing that’s new. You got stunning visuals with inverse kinematics, a great combat system, and a very in-depth clothing system, just to name a few. What they’re taking from MnB is the realistic setting, not all the good stuff. KCD isn’t supposed to be a better version of MnB. We have Bannerlord for that. Also I didn’t pledge to the game because I wanted another good story driven RPG game. I pledged because I wanted a good HISTORICAL story driven RPG game. On a different note, I think that too many people who have pledged to this game have pledged because they wanted to change the game to what they want, instead of just wanting to support Dan (and the rest of those guys) and HIS vision for the game. I’m not necessarily categorizing you as one of those people. I just wanted to put that out there.

It sounds good you will not find anything like this in KCD. Take Witcher, put away all magic and monsters … here you you, you are very close to what KCD want to be. No Mount and Blade conquering the world, no Stronghold srategy, building and management of your castles and villages. Just old good story driven RPG.

This is kind of the angle I hope they go for. NPC companions who are involved in their own storylines or tied to certain quests. You don’t necessarily control them but they accompany you during the period you choose to ally with them or during a particular quest line.

In my opinion it may be a bit tough to employ large squads of soldiers following the hero. Those sorts of moments may be resigned to scripted events while an sole companion may be more intractable.
