What did you think of Kingdom Come Deliverance? Specifically the games pacing and mechanics?

I’m a little late to the party but I just picked up Kingdom Come Deliverance and I’m struggling to really get into it. I heard the mechanics of the game, specifically the combat were different and took some getting used to and that was true but I feel like I understand the mechanics well enough to enjoy the game now. What’s throwing me off is just how slow the game is, constant cut scenes and aimless walking with nothing really happening bogs down the pacing so much that half the time I feel like I’m either watching a film or playing a walking simulator. I get that this is a narrative heavy game but it’s taken me like four hours just to get to Henry burying his parents (admittedly I did have some trouble getting out of the city where he is trapped but still).

I wanted to bring it up because the only thing I really heard about the game was about how it’s mechanics are strange. I like the realism aspect of it, like how you have to eat food and sleep and the combat was tricky at first but I feel like I have a semi good grasp of it now. The only thing I struggle with is lock picking but even then I do understand it, it’s just difficult.

Like I said the pacing is what really gets to me. Henry has just woke up in Theresa’s uncles mill and I’m hoping this is where the game picks up and starts to move a little faster.

Lol. You barely started the game. Come back after 100 hours to debate this. Otherwise you’ll be spoiled.

Or after 229 hours like myself… most of them spent running all around the map. I hope you currently read a good book or have a phone nearby, although you will usually get stuck somewhere in the forest when you don’t look around frequently, or miss some important info from the cutscenes.

I like it at least, take your time and get into the role play, you are not you, you are henry

I like it.

It’s a RPG, isn’t it ?

Yeah, that´s the real start of the game :slight_smile:

After that I think it depends on your play style. Some people just like to wonder. Dont rush the main story line oterwise you come across one quest that will be to difficult for you.

Regarding the combat: soon you will learn that “everything you know about defence is wrong” :wink:

@Rameshsalvi
The part done in Skalitz before the mill is basically the games 20 hour tutorial and intro to the game.
here you learn how to do things and how the mechanics work enough to play the game and start to advance in skills and levels.
At the mill start is where the rest of the game starts.

Very funny

In my opinion the story was a little too fast after the mill in my first play through. I didn’t know when a good time to leave was for a long while.
You’re literally at the start of the game. If you are playing normal mode there will be fast travel. Go explore. Have fun with father godwin c;

if i played true to the urgency of the time, i would’ve gone to Sir Radzig right away. i didn’t. exploring straight away made it tough. had to learn on the fly (as opposed to getting combat training from Sir Bernard or shady skills training from Miller Peshek) but enjoyed every bit of it.

That is the best experience. Like in Stalker with russian voice and texts. (i mean if you dont understand the language) I’ve played more than 200 hours in the woods and killed cumans. Most time Encounters with More Enemies and adjusted cooldown! Who needs a Bernard. :smile:

To me it really feels like a Gothic 2 in Witcher graphics with a ton of bugs. This game is waaaay unfinished and it shines - it didnt even had time to have a proper QC to check for correct script sequences, something to be fixed very easily.

What is funny?

The times fitting the line which i needed to become a Beginner in the game.
It is a harder task to solve certain things if you didn’t know much of medieval life!
