If that is your reasoning than imagining yourself being a certain person in history is always wrong. The popular people throughout history have all been despots and murderers and your average Joe profits from those deeds. I can’t think of a single society in which the ordinary guy wasn’t directly or indirectly related to conquest and war.

As for people wanting to be in their shoes, they think about the good said persons have done and regard the conquest and the murdering as a products of their time.

I personally prefer the western european celtic period, i spend hours to read and learn about this age… i’m from a celtic culture: from brittany, and as thou this time period is interesting, i feel like this part of history also live trough the culture i’m involved in.
