Amen!! So true
Yk. I have a PC, it not a bad rig, it’s got a i7 CPU/32gigs ram/gtx 1080, but when I bought this game, I kinda based it on the videos and screen shots I saw. I picked it up on release day and naturally assumed it’s a AAA game it’s being released cross platform and though the graphics Might not be on par with what I saw but slightly downgraded for consoles, but never did I expect it was gonna be such a bad unoptimized port to the consoles.
As I always say in any of my posts, I love this game, the story and some of the charecter, but I can’t stop thinking console players got a raw deal/sloppy seconds. Ik what you mean about the devs and Daniel, tweeting about new lighting and other PC related things, but I would not be surprised (like with many other games) that console sales make up a large percentage of their sales. Yet I feel like you said we are never really addressed or sympathized with.
If WH, Martin and Daniel want to go big time with their dream, they need to show more respect to console users especially those here who want nothing more than to help make KCD the best game ever created.
Well if they wanna make money full support to consoles in the future would be a must. I think a read somewhere that nearly 70% of the Witcher 3 sales where console sales and 30% PC. (It’s in a post on the CDPR forums I read awhile back). The main issue here was I think it was, well I can’t really say it’s a cash grab, but if they only released it for PC, the sales for the game would have been fairly low. It it a very niche game as it is.
I think the PC version has enough polish as it stands ATM. They need to focus on console optimization for a bit now
Sorry I really don’t get what is wrong with the console version. Is this just conspiracy theories now?
Know them?
Sorry mate , I’m not going to bite your bate
Andrew, Martin…and fritz?
We have a winner! Working the soil with their air hoes. Merging their bodies.
Fritz doesn’t offer lockpicks if you buy charcoal early on. So, I tried to KO him ‘cause I was desperate to get lockpicking experience in Skalitz. The KO showed white (meaning enabled), but depressing did nothing. Some of the other things WH has to investigate beyond popins and rain.
Lol I want the to come to Privyslavitz. But Andrew won’t come, but I realized I need to further the quest line with Martin and fritz. I thought I finished their quest line when I left them at the mill in sasau after they beat up the Miller. So I found them at the in a the glade and after some dialogs I unearthed a further quest that envolves all three. I’m busy with it ATM. Need to get some Cumin armor (you obvously know the quest?).
XBox One: Patch 1.5
No Kirksty, I’m having issues too. Not as bad, it seems to me, as those who loaded Patch 1.6.
Frame stutter is returning, not just in Rattay, but in Sassau too.
Have had several Frame Freezes in the countryside, but the game recovers, although my heart skips a beat when these happen. Expect the game to crash.
None of these things are bad enough to stop me from playing…yet.
But, if the Frame Stutter gets as bad as it was in Patch 1.43, I’ll be taking another 4-6 week hiatus from the game…waiting for Patch 2.0.
Yeah, I wanted to ‘keep clean’ as I travel around killing thousands of bandits and Cuman… so didn’t move forward with that questline. Now, with Pribyslavitz, reevaluating that position… some of Miller Peshek’s moral ambiguity might rub off on me after all
Lol well I never even knew the further quest line existed with them after the mill. Sometimes I get frustrated that the game does not make quest lines obvious, but I do like the way the game does not hold your hand in anyway. Think it’s a great mechanic, but sometimes it can be abit of a downfall cause some quests are possible to miss. The only reason I found it was cause like I said I wanted them to come to Privyslavitz lol
I wish their questline forked… 3 paths:
(1) benign mischief
(2) ruffians/petty theives
(3) straight up criminals (capital offense crimes)
The path your friends travel down depends on you and your interactions with them and others.
Whilst fulltime console gamers might not understand a game ‘not finished’ on release - it is an experience seldom found on consoles and typical of new sell methods like ‘early access’; KCD is a gamme that will require some patience.
It wasnt expected- the game was in a saleable state; but something that happens when you pull tonnes of content at the eleventh hour on basis that the skeleton left behind works and can be sold…
What happened? Some forseeable stuff (removed contect causing all sorts of issues), and some unpredictable issues (texture streaming pushed right to limit of console hardware could break game if data was fragmented (not revealed during testing for natural reasons));
Which netted game some big patches (content being readded and, eventually, redone texture assets to relieve streaming difficulties), which in turn creates random output of game streaming quality…
The game as it exists presently (a work of considerable effort to tame fires on all fronts) is going to be fragmented on most peoples systems.
The exception? Newly formatted drive (think ‘brand new’ (not refurbished) console) with a digital pirchase of KCD that has downloaded a new game purchase sonce patch 1.6 came out.
Everyone else has no concept of how fragmented their KCD install is. (And therefor cannot tell if it is their system making game run inconsistantly with studios intent/present game version)
The fragmenting of the game data is significant to MANY issues users are having (Id hazard it extends to game saving and even game resuming scenarios- it affects everything as clearly other game systems dont work when players start riding through unrendered assets etc).
If Warhorse had any easy way to ensure a clean contiguous file install that would be a start.
They dont.
So typical to most development; built on computers, likely very powerful- the build they delivered to ‘perfect environment’ consoles would have worked.
Obviously we are all experiencing different game working scenarios.
My PC has quad channel RAM, enough CPU to match the cores/config of eight core consoles (intel 5920k), and an M2 SSD drive that pushes 1200megabytes a second.
Ive had no issues.
Seriously.
I can ride my horse from the millers at full gallop through rattay and ride out the top gates (and back in via alternate gate and back to millers again), and no textures or models are missing.
This isnt about my PC. (All hail me)
It just shows thaat the game can work. As intended. (Less issues when doing so)
What I have seen with at least every second patch- focused optimisation primarily with console output in mind.
PC Ultra settings have been lowered a few times (middle distance LODs and active zone world size as examples), these changes show game isnt for uber/elite few.
Console sales are where it is at.
Id challenge the witcher pc sales as not being the best example to cite.
Witcher 1 was PC only and game targeted to a mature audience. (At the time was consensus for PC platform as a whole).
Witcher series has been strong motivator for pc hardware sales and ‘bragging rights’ (i run with full hairworx)…
Consoles having vastly superior number of unit/software sales they are the natural focus.
Warhorse are getting there.
The initial issues stemming from removed game elements to hit release date are mostly sorted.
Hundreds of lil glitches that only release can find have been addressed (and will continue to be)
As an RPG, quest bugs are being handled, and true to most every rpg released since 2000, is vastly better after a few updates…
So- getting a full scale first person streaming assets open world game to run smoothly (even on lil Johhnys seven year old town bicycle xbox which has a fragmented drive and throttling issues due to too much heat build up (johnny is a smoker and has a dusty room)…) its getting there.
Where is ‘there’?
‘There’ is a future version of KCD (lets call it ‘game of the year’) that has appropriate sized textures that most cheap console hard drives can stream appropriately.
It might have wavefile music (zero cpu to decode) stored on a thumb drive plugged into a USB jack. …
It will have the requisite polish to make it run as it should.
Presently this is all caught up in a web of politics and platform shenanigans.
Warhorse have been ever consistant in their dedication and continued efforts.
I like the speak with “actions and not words” approach.
Its not helping them presently (nor would a bunch of words amount to much), but in time…
Moderm gamers with zero delay for gratification and more money than sense are the games biggest issues.
Delaying gratification would allow for normal/adult discourse in forum and public space, whilst also aiding in thread searches for relevant topics that allow discussion to be targeted and PRACTICAL.
Also- a half year after new IP launches for RPGs? Nobody seems to compare apples to apples?!
I had the witcher (the first) on release.
I bought all three witcher games multiple times mostly due to refinements that come with time (heaven knows the packaging got less and lighter)… the first game had to have a master file reissue (they even reburned new CDs) as it had all sorts of issues (like fragmentation of data) that massively gimped performance.
When Warhorse have the causes of issues found they can address the problem, not the ‘symptoms’.
Time is our friend, thanks Warhorse
Not sure that characterizes Daniel’s tweeting behaviour or WH adjustments to console performance
That the assets were created firstly for consoles tell us their intent. Their delivery of said assets however is a work in progress.
Bingo just a nice brisk trot
