Where can I find development updates and future progress?

Probably a dumb question as it’s somewhere obvious but I can’t seem to find it. I’ve had the game for a few weeks now and haven’t seen a single update? What’s going on?

One update is coming up.
You could see some pictures on facebook page.

But otherwise there really is not much updates recently.

I get the feeling he meant a code update/patch. While the news about smithing progress is interesting it doesn’t directly address any of the numerous bugs that hinder easy play through to completion of the simple quest pair.

If you also meant an announcement of a patch it hasn’t reached FB yet.

Oh, yea, nothing about the Beta updates, yet.

I meant a real update to the beta as Lieste said. This is becoming disappointing.

WH has always been releasing their updates in big chunks, as the game is being worked on in many different areas simultaneously, and creating working build is therefore lot of extra effort, when you have to make sure that all the changes blend together. I expect update no sooner than 3-4 months after beta release, if not later.

WHS - I love a lot about this game. The graphics are stunning and the story interesting. The combat stuff seems cool to me and running around in the forests feels very real.

But beta means all promised features implemented with documentation and gone through a significant set of regression tests. There should only be odds and ends wrong. At least that’s what a “beta” version meant during my 30+ year career as a software developer.

Your beta version is at best an alpha version. With the number of game stopping problems it feels more like a lab prototype. There are TONS of bugs, some amusing, some nasty, some extremely frustrating - ie, How could you get to beta and not have planned how the game save/load function would be implemented, or better yet tested.

If you want your cadre of free testers (I won’t call them bata-testers) to keep working, you need to throw them some bones. Either offer goodies to those who report real bugs or at least release montly (or better bi-weekly) patches.

Yeah I know I signed on for unfinished code, but the thrill of galloping around the countryside waiting for a NPC to malfunction or the game to freeze and afraid to do a save / load because things are almost certain to become unstable afterward has become awfully frustrating.

This is exactly how I see it. I think that it’s important to understand that the purpose of this Beta is slightly different than the purpose of, lets say, a multiplayer early access game. A MP developer would need a lot of fans playing from the start, so the game is alive, and thus more fun. It makes sense for those devs. to give us their latest build with everything so more people get excited to join and play. And they keep us interested with frequent updates - adding stuff that community wanted. This game has been fully funded by an investor so now they only need backers for testing and feedback.

With this game however, it makes sense to keep some secrets for the final release. I don’t really want to spoil myself with more unpolished content from the developers build. That is why we only get those smaller testing versions - iterations of some core game features, so we can give reasonable feedback. I would not expect any more content updates.

There should be some bug fixes and optimization updates, but again, the purpose of the beta is to help the Final release, not to delaying it (as assembling each testing build cost some extra development time and testing). So, for example, I don’t mind waiting for a ‘Beta AI optimization patch’, if its more efficient to work on it later, once they finalize assembling the whole game-world in their build. Or I don’t think that they should worry about those bugs, that are specific only to Beta build etc…

On the other hand I think that they should release proper Beta version once the game is 100% features & content complete . Because finding every single bug in such an reactive open-world sounds like a Problem. I would rather start it nice and polished but this is were the community help will be needed, I am afraid.

I would only to have one patch which should come as soon as possible:
the save-load function.
simple reason: I don’t have time to play the game through in one go. which also means that it’s harder for me to explore the world / find bugs.
I know you guys are working on it, but since this one of the key functions, it should be solved as fast as possible.
and yes, it’s a beta (I also like to defend this point with all means!), but we still had to pay money. so… we pay you to be the tester^^ nothing wrong about that, but that also increases the expectation to “feel the progress”
