Why is my character (harry) being called Hal by these and those npc’s? Did you change the name of the character while in development and didn’t bother / couldn’t change this in dialogue?
Probably a nickname
like william and bill or smt
Your character’s name is Heinrich, shortened to Henri and translated as Henry. Hal is just a nickname.

funny how that info never shows up in the main storyline
Shakespeare referred to Henry as “Hal” in Henry IV, so it was apparently a common nickname.
