Why cant i sprint?

Yes but originally the spear wasnt actually euwiped i couldnt see it on my character, i could even draw my sword without any problem. I didnt know it was equiped until i checked my inventory. Also why would you not be anle to put a spear on your back for storage. Sure you may not be able to store like 5 of them, but one should be no problem. The storage system si already something they have taken some liberties in anyways, so why not have t work for spears?

I think there is a bug where it still marks as equipped if you equip a weapon after having used a polearm. And I think you should be able to store 1 in your inventory. Just have it be the heaviest to carry. Bummed me out when I found out I couldn’t be a poleaxe knight but eh watchu gonna do.

youre overencumbered bro. check the scales at the bottom, and how they are red. that means you are carrying too much and need to put some on your horse and drop something…hence why you could run when you dropped it. You can get over encumbered and still move fast if you are barely carrying too much, the more you are carrying over your ā€œmax capacityā€ the slower youll move. you cannot jump or run once you are carrying too much

in the picture the scales are red anyway, if being over encumbered wasnt the issue im not sure what was

Heh just noticed that, but check my buffs/debuffs along the top. There’s no over encumbered sign?

honestly, i never notice buff/debuffs in the menu either lol but it does indicate youre over encumbered by being grey, once it is grey you are carring to much and it starts to fill with yellow, indicating how much more you can carry until you are immobile. either way, if you didnt know, you can store gear on your horse and you can store gear in any chest next to any bed you sleep in (ā€œownedā€ or one you pay for).
I suggest, for convenience, take the lowborn perk so you can talk to casuals better making prices better from Millers and worse from Merchants. The reason to do this is that you have a free bed and chest right outside Rattay and Miller Peshik has a lot of gold usually; also he’ll buy legit or stolen stuff doesnt matter, he just doesnt sell much. I frequently stop there, do a Theresa mission, sell some stuff, grab a free meal and sleep; even if just for an hour to grab a save. You can use this time to offload stuff you dont want to sell into that chest too.

if you didnt know that lol

take that money into Rattay to the herbalist and grab some ingredients for Savior Schnapps (there is an alchemy station right outside the herbalist shop) and whip up a few potions for saving on the road and youre ready for some running around worry free

can you store it on your horse? otherwise whats the point of having that weapon when there are far more useful ones that dont hinder your speed?

That i am not sure about as i do not yet have a horse, but i will definitely test it once i do. It also makes no sense that you cant at least have a spear on your back so that you could be a spearman if you wanted to without being charged for having a weapon drawn every time you go into town. It is kind of odd that spears are being treated as weapons you only temporarily pick up and use.

i personally havnt come across a spear but maybe its just a bug and it has not been addressed?

It is possible, but so far it seems to be a universal bug. No one has been able to unequip a spear. And if you do things like go to draw your sword, then it automatically drops the spear (assuming you dont get the invisible spear glitch that i got). So if it is a glitch then it is a universal one at this point (which is really bad), or it is a not very good mechanic.

You can actually raise your polearm skill even though there’s no mention of it in your combat skills tab. I think they’ve only been semi-implemented in the game and will hopefully be fully introduced in a later patch.

i think there are a lot of things like this. i havnt exhausted the map by any means but ive heard tehre are no tournaments, event though it is clearly advertised there are; and heard apparently they may come later as well. Just take what we got and wait for new updates and such. Its still a baby, only been out 10 days

I hope so as well, it would be a pretty cool option as a main weapon.

i just dont see a point in a pole arm. ive only been in one large battle (the raid where you fight Runt) and if i wasnt in the frey i just shoot arrow in. I’m all about mace/shield myself

But thar is just it, it should be based on personal choice. If i want to be a spearman i should be able to, since it in no way goes against the realism of the game. Sure i would be unable to have a nice big shoeld but i exchange that for the ability to hit an enemy from further away. Though i technically should be able to have some kind of smaller wrist mounted shield (like a buckler).

Polearms were fairl common weapons for soldiers, for one thing they were easier for a peasant army to learn how to use, and cheaper/easier to produce. I am actually really happy they have the farmers spear (badically a scycle with the blade turned so it points forward. It was actually viewed as a pretty brutal weapon, and was very easy for peasants to make and use.

I just feel that such choices shouldnt be taken away from the player, especially since it is something that only adds to the realism of the game.

i get that, i’m just saying personally i can deal with it lol. I completely understand what youre saying though. I think all weaopns we carry should be ā€œequippedā€ in a way that would make sense. For example long sword or polearm/sperr on your back, shield on your back, 1 handed weapon on your belt. and if you cant " carry it" you have to store it on your horse of do without. Someone Henry can carry 170lbs of swords if he wanted to, and that makes no sense to me

personally i dont find space management too difficult as long as i frequent the bed/chest at the miller outside Rattay, which i do to sell stuff.

First you have made one small mistake, longswords were not typically stored on ones back except for transport. If there was a chance of using it in combat proper longswords would be sheathed on your side. Long swords are actually surprisingly long so it is very difficult/inefficient to sheath them on your back. There are a number of videos about it only demonstrating why this practice is really only in movies/video games. There are some sheaths that sould allow you to do it, but they arent really sheaths, since they dont fully protect the blade. They were more loke holders, but the sheaths purpose is to protect the blade while not in use, so having such a holder doesnt have a lot of purpose.

There are also a number of things that have realism sacrificed for the sake of gameplay, such as your ability to seemingly master multiple types of combat, before becoming an old man. Typically it takes many years of training to master even one thing like a sword. And yet Henry does it with little effort. Mind you it would be a rather boring game if it completely followed the rules of real life. The carrying weight and what you can carry is another example of this. In reality not ecen your horse could carry an extra set of plate mail, it was rather bulky armour and so very difficult to fit inside saddle packs. Which is why such armour was either worn or put into a cart. Making the carrying system completely realistic would likely impact the fun of the game to much.

One can argue teu did the same thing when it came to spears/pole-arms. But in this case it makes no sense because not permitting people to use them reduces a number of peoples fun, and reduces the realism. It especially makes no sense that you cant store or sell them. That has to be either a glitch or a very poor decision.

Well now i can’t sprint. Dropped all items from inventory - no result. Still can only walk/run.

UPD. It is some strange issue, i ve switched run/walk mode several times and finnaly could sprint.
