Will there be... some Crime?

This sounds like a funny quest after WH introduced in Alpha 0.5 their crime system, but I´m not talking about the player(Henry), and scripted things.

Will NPCs have the „freedom of choice“ to make a crime?
In Realworld we don´t live in a kind of utopia. Everyday humans lie and steal (etc.).
WH said their NPC can decide if they go to fishing or into the pub.
The quest is, can the NPC decide to steal something (do a crime)???
For example, a peasant buys something from the merchant, but hasn´t enough money. Can he „borrow“ an apple?
Is this possible? Or is this a nightmare for the programmers? Would the (KCD)world start to be chaotic and unpredictable? And if the implemented crime system works against the NPCs? Would this be funny?

What is easy to programm? I think stealing and brawl/fighting/killing.
What is hard? Lying!

Some suggestions?

I hope so. In the Elder Scrolls Oblivion they were able to do it. Each NPC had a “responsibility” level that would determine if and how-often they would commit a crime. It also determined how likely an NPC was to report a crime. Drug users and thieves had very low “responsibility” levels.

Yea but it looked random and ridiculous in Oblivion, like some npc started crouching in the middle of the street tried to pickpocket someone, guards immediately killed him than look at the body and said “The body is still warm, there’s a killer on the loose.”

Thats just the general silliness and guard idiocy that comes with an Elder Scrolls game

Warhorse has said theirs will be more realistic. If they do implement NPC crime hopefully it will be a rare event and “kill” won’t be the only option the guards use. It would be fun to come to a town and see someone get busted. Possibly see some drama unfold as an angry shopkeeper accuses someone of stealing maybe even drawing a crowd or the guy gets arrested or tries to flee.

Maybe this “level” can also change by drinking(in the pub). Being much more aggressive and ready to fight…

It´s a question of balance. If the crime level is to high, you can find every person in the prison(after some days!) or dead. :grinning:

Yes, the guards… always funny.

Would lying make sense, for a realistic gameplay(in general)?

In current crime system you have to deal with consequencies imidiately when you are caugth.

But I think that if you decide to pay the blood price you should be given time to collect the sum.

Also I am not sure about the prison concept.
Weren’t prisons just waiting rooms for execution? Or other form of punishment?

It was explained in live stream. When you decide to go to prison, your good and bad reputation zeros. You loose stolen items and stats.

I know, I watched that.
I am disputing whether this concept is right.

On a quick search I found this:
http://www.historyofyork.org.uk/themes/medieval/medieval-prisons

In spite of the conditions imprisonment was not seen as a punishment in
itself, you were only imprisoned awaiting trial. But that could take a
very long time - there are accounts of prisoners waiting for up to ten
years for trial. Whilst you were in there you had to pay rent and for
your food. Running a prison could be a profitable business.

And really interessing(also one or two information about Sigesmund):

Looks like you are right @ProkyBrambora.
At the moment we can only speculate what kind of prison and punishment we will see in KCD. :grinning:
