You should make some official annoucement

Please don’t speak for “all of forum users”.
I don’t expect to get the alpha key around this time.
About 14 hours ago Dan said on his twitter account:“Not sooner than tomorrow around this time I would say. If everythings goes fine.”

I do understand your sentence don´t worry, but I said it earlier: You can´t make everyone happy. Someone will always be pissed off. It is bad for you and people with your opinion that it´s now your turn to get angry and I´m sorry for it (I really am) but there will be other decisions that maybe will piss off me or other people and make you happy.
When this day comes you also will argue for this decision and I hope you´ll understand the point of the other side.

Well, I am not sure, if we promised that the alpha will be available on 0:01 in the first time zone possible. I remember on the other hand Dan saying in the video update that the first date is October 22nd if everything goes right and October 27th if anything goes wrong.

Please remember that we are not talking about sales or even presales here, we are not opening a new subsidiary of a fast food chain or a distributing printed book on the shelves. People here are working 25 hours a day to give you first immersion of the game, which we promised on Kickstarter and we will fulfill the promise. Is it wrong that we would like you to have the best experience we can deliver? Is it unprofessional that we are testing the alpha on Steam, if everything works right? Is it wrong that we are updating the website to be able to answer all your questions in English, German and Czech Languages?

We do it because we feel obliged to our backers and we love you. The date is not the most important thing to discuss here. Thank you for your support!

Amen and thank you for this statement

jeeez, i didn´t mean to start up WW3 here  what happened?

Hold on your horses guys!!!

It is very unfair to be harsh on the devs for the unexpected delays… Plus, we should all remember that they are only an indie studio and it is their first attempt on making a game, that too on a very large scale…

Also, we should not forget that this is not some generic FPS alpha… This is an ambitious RPG with a lot of unique features like unscripted AI with complex NPC day/night routines, etc. which are never attempted in gaming industry before…And that too, they do not want to give a crappy lifeless alpha…They are trying to remove bugs how much they can before it gets released to us…I find no fault at all with the devs…

So guys, please give them your time and patience…Your co-operation in this regard is what they need the most…

I don’t see it that seriously, but I agree with you that they should at least give a statement about the current state and the time that they plan to release the Alpha.

They did. On multiple occasions. They’ve just been ignored. Valve time is standard for roughly playable alpha demos. Why all the urgency?

I’m not trying to push them, they shall take their time.

No one is upset except for you OP… and honestly If I was running the business you would be the last person on this earth id give the key to
These are the same people that will whine 5 minutes after the release and demand money back cause of a bug… learn what alphas are all about.

Let them take there time

Firstly I understand and like your enthusiasm. I would argue you are definitely right and the problem of exaggerated expectations is on the forum users side.

I would try to explain. Of course to try everything is OK is absolutely mandatory. Of course you must try if the steam installation works etc. But I suppose many people thought you would manage to be in time and test everything before the 22nd. Then again you probably wanted to deliver the alpha as soon as possible and therefore set the date as a kind of challenge for yourself in the first place. As I said before I absolutely understand deadlines are highly problematic sometimes - having a lot of experience with creative process myself, with the continuous effort of trying to polish things and deliver the best result possible.

I hope you understand that this absurd flood of negative posts is in fact caused by nothing more or less than our enthusiasm - we are looking forward to the game and enjoy it’s development with you. Some people are perhaps unfortunately looking forward to the possibility of trying the game too much.

Maybe they learned from Chris Roberts and his Star Citizen, that giving more precise dates or times will bring ppl without the ability to wait more up than just saying a timeframe of maybe 24 hours as the 22. oct. 2014.

On the SC Forums they have given dates and stuff, when they plan to release their stuff to us players waiting, and guess what might have happened if they dont get it by that time…shitstorm ahead.
And in my opinion u would have been one of them…
so they took 30 sec to give u a date, they are maybe not able to hold, cause they are polishing stuff, that ALL Players may get a decent experience of their game. u would be yelling and shouting, cause they dont deliver by time. of course u will ignore everything like polishing, alpha status etc…

so if i learned anything from this alpha-release-discussion or from the Star Citizen Forum: If i ever create a game, i will not, under any circumstances, release more precise relesasedates or times to my fanbase. There are always some ppl ruining it.

This is not on Dan’s head. They have a person paid and dedicated to dealing with this stuff. That is where the reference to pizza came from.

I agree exacts on time to release today would have been a big mistake. But they should have an official thread that only the developers can post on stickied at the top. This thread should communicate that they will update the community starting at 2 there time and every two hours after that. It should also state that they first couple updates could be as simple as “Nothing to update, still working hard to get this out”.

No communication as most developers seem to do is the wrong message they send their community. Especially on a community funded project. Everyone wants to give the definition of crowd funding and say that you are not entitled to anything. The problem with that is most people still feel entitled to at least communication, no matter if you tell them they aren’t entitled to it.

The problem with the communication with star citizen is the smart ass comments from the developers instead of straight information. Being a smart ass myself when you give that type of response to a tense community it doesn’t go well.

This topic ought to end now, a member of the team replied about the matter and explained everything, no more needs to be said. :stuck_out_tongue:

Dude, chill out. It’s an alpha, it may not work right the first time, that’s half the point of the alpha. I get you paid money but these things aren’t guaranteed, especially in early stages of release. Go to the shops, see a movie, go to work, clean out your computer, [insert other activities you enjoy]. When you get back, there might be some more information but sitting here brooding about not having the code is pointless.

Kind of funny, because people are complaining that Backers are not worth 30sec of time by Warhorse. But they themselves do not invest 30sec of time to look around the forum to inform themselves. If you would have done this you would already know that they encounterd bugs and are trying to solve them, if everything works like they planed it the Alpha will be released on 22 Oct. if not it will be delayed. This information you could already find LAST day, the 21 Oct.
It is a little bit naive to think they will release the Alpha on 22 Oct. 00:01 with this information in mind.

True. But I won’t say Tobi is the culprit here. And I don’t find his manner that unprofessional either. Surely considering the mess that followed midnight he should have stated something like:

We are working hard in order to release the alpha tomorrow (22nd), probably during afternoon / evening but I am not able to make any promise right now. Please be patient.

It would be more appropriate than the “pizza” statement.

But let’s not forget the forum seemed to enjoy his “joker side” before and he simply continued to be our pal and skipped the more official part. Not a big deal if you ask me.

Ohh jesus there really exist people complaining about jokes? Really? We have a great and open community manager and somebody is complaining about fucking joke? What do you want him to do? Usual impersonal business talk and apology in advance after every sentence?

What this thread needs is a little more perspective… or cowbell…
