12 fps - Bad performance despite top hardware!

I don’t understand it. I have top high end hardware. When I look in my task manager, neither my CPU nor my GPU nor my SSDs are occupied. Nevertheless I get 12 fps. I have the newest drivers for all my hardware and the new patch patch 1.4. All my graphics settings are on the highest setting, but that shouldn’t be a problem since others play on the highest settings with similar hardware on 4k and get 60+ FPS, and I play only at 2K and get 12 FPS.

My hardware:
2 x Gainward Phoenix GTX 1080 in SLI, overclocked to 2050 Mhz core and 5600 Mhz memory for each card
2 x E5-2689 v4 (all 20 cores can clock at 3.7 Ghz at the same time together)
64 GB DDR4 2400 RAM
ASUS Z10PE-D8 Mainboard
1 TB SAMSUNG SSD for Windows
2 TB SAMSUNG SSD for KCD
2K QHD 2560 x 1440 DELL Display with 60 Hz

Someone help please. :frowning:

I wonder if it is a SLI issue? Trying disabling one card and running the other. I run a single GTX 1080 and get much better performance.

Nope. I had the same bad performance before using SLI.
At first I only had one GTX 1080 in my PC, then I put the second in it. But also, I manually activated and deactivated SLI and it didn’t change anything.

Weird we have very similar specs. Instead of a xeon I have a I7-4820k OC’d to 4.5GHZ but I doubt that is it. I have one GTX 1080. Your hardware is pretty damn excellent.

You may need to reinstall the game entirely. I have no idea what would fix your issue, sorry.

What FPS do you get and with which settings?

40-50 on very high. However, with this stuttering it is hard to give you a good answer since that is taking chunks out of the FPS as well.

Do you get the same poor performance with a new game?

No I usually get very high FPS. 12 FPS is very poor.

No, I meant “start a brand new game” is the frame rate that low then as well? Not just from a saved game…

I didn’t mean install it from scratch etc.

I dont get your hardware.

Why getting a 20 cores cpu and 64 gb of ram? Are you a programmer or an engineer? Hosting a server?
Why two 1080ti’s when 90% of games dont even support sli, and 10 remaining % support it very poorly?
why a 1440p 60 hertz monitor instead of 144 which is far better for gaming in fact of fluidity?

Done. Still just as bad as before.

Because I use it primarily for 3D rendering and video editing, not for gaming.

Well I’m not having those issues, so it’s somehow related to his hardware and the new patch.

  • Intel 4790k
  • 16 Gig RAM
  • Nvidia 1080 (not using Geforce Experience)
  • Installed on separate Game SSD from windows SSD.

If it was referred to me…

My doubts were not related to the game issues he could have, but to the fact that after reading his hardware list, at the beginning i thought it was uber exaggerated for a gaming only setup.

But it’s not his case.

It has nothing to do with the patch. I had the bad performance before the patch as well.

Oh sorry, I thought you meant it was just post-patch.

This may not help, but back when hmmm, one of the Total War games came out I had a bleeding edge system with way more RAM, CPU cores, and video that could crush it. Instead I had abysmal performance (this may have been MTW2 or Empire Total War). At any rate, the extra memory was causing an issue for the game. When I took out half my RAM it ran better (but still not quite as well as lower specced PC’s).

That was ages ago, but maybe you’re in the same boat. Or maybe with deca-core cpu the OS/game are doing so much load balancing between all the cores it’s killing your performance. Can you make your cpu act exactly like a quad core?

Yes I can. But it doesn’t make sense to me since it’s doesn’t show any CPU bottlenecking on any core.

That made it worse. 7 FPS

I wanna know where my bottleneck is.

You don’t have a bottleneck. That’s the issue. It’s due to one of your advanced items. You know, there were some critical issues with the 1080 when it first came out as it was running way worse in some situations vs. a 1070 and many owners were furious. I wonder if the 1080TI has something along those lines. I ran an SLI setup for years and gave it up as I hated the poor game support. So I’m gonna suggest something else than is a pain in the butt, but I had to do it myself to parse out issues with my old setup. Take a card out and see if that changes things. At this point you doing research and you have to eliminate the most probable item one at a time (I did genetic research for years so I know how it is).

One other thing I just noticed. Have you run it at just a normal res? 1080p instead of super widescreen? I think one of your images is closer to that but not sure.
