After some additional thought and given the expressed (sometimes immature) outcry in some answers, i decided to slightly rephrase the initial post so that it better resonates with the “wise” audience of this forum.
Also i’m really genuinely interested in game design, not some hidden coprophiliac…
I played only few games in which the horse was depicted - Assassin Creed 2, Last of Us and Skyrim. As far as i remember the animal secretion feature wasn’t implemented in any of those - e.g. in Last of Us the mission with the horses was too short & fast pacing so there wasn’t time for any such gimmicks, the AC2 and Skyrim were probably too mainstream and they weren’t ready for such “controversy”.
Also i agree that this gimmick feature fits nicely in MGS games given the specific humor already included in these games (e.g. different card-box covers).
But Warhorse is free of any corporate overlord, so why the heck no?
Anyway - i expect that any dev team that strives to digitally portray a living animal needs to create the design spec for it (with reasons why such & such feature will improve the game?) - what will be its movements, behavior, reactions, will it sleep, will it get tired, whether the user needs to feed it (or at least give some special treat - apple/carrot(?) - before the battle), whether it will drool/neigh and in the end - the core question of this post - whether it should be also able to excrete digital turds.
As anyone who was at least a bit around the real horses can attest - the horses are serious manure producers and they do so joyfully and in great heaps no matter what is the situation or context - so i would expect that all the dev. teams of above mentioned games had to deal with this question/situation in one way or another (and also whether it will have any benefit for the final outcome/game design).
My opinion is (after seeing what they did in MGS and after remembering the W statements how the horse is important to this game) - yes, it should be there; it might look gimmicky, but such occasionally turding horse would look much more lively than those artificial horses in e.g. AC2.
But i also see that in broader scope it might bring some challenges (timing, where, decomposition, why only horse and not other animals?)
Regarding some of the additional parts/additional comments
- by me initially (half-seriously) suggested additional use of the feces for other purposes went probably too far, but i remember from my university times one particular Christmas party, during which the girls(!) pulled one particularly nasty prank and incorporated rabbit poo into a chocolate candies and then offered these to us ~ was it disgusting - yes, was it hilarious - hell YES! Could it be reproduced in some (most probably Japanese)game - maybe…
- re secretion of other animals - i understand that this would be probably also “too much” and not really beneficial to the game (still it could bring some crude fun into the game!)
- i do not understand why some of you dismiss this topic as “too low for this game/community” - it is a possible feature that at least one other blockbuster/AAA game (that will be played by millions gamers!) implemented, so i would expect that other serious dev. teams might re-consider/think about it; also from my point of view this topic is on same level as other on this forum discussed topics that could be already dismissed/closed…
- and yes, i would rather like to play&discuss alpha right now as well, but you should complain about it somewhere else
Howgh Hatátitlá, long live the digitally pooping horse!
It’s Friday, so let’s discuss for a change here something “substantial”, something that will have certainly deep impact on the game and its portrayal of reality!
When watching the Metal Gear presentation i noticed that the horse was defecating (not sure whether automatically or if this was initiated by the controller in mighty Kojima’s hands) - http://goo.gl/lDP1dI - around 5:12-5:14 in the video
Can i hope that same feature will be available in KCD?
Also - as there will be other animals (i vaguely remember sheep, bear, rabbits, chickens ?) - can we hope to “meet” their excrements as well?
Will those have different size & texture depending on the “provenance” and diet of specific animal?
Also - will it be possible to interact with these stinking elements - e.g. randomly step into/skid on it or use it in some “dirty” combat (e.g. throw it at someone for provocation)? Or at least dry it and use it for some potions or add it to a beer of someone else?!
Could we finally find the answer to the ultimate question whether “the bear actually sh$@t in the woods?!”
So many questions…
p.s. if “interested” in this topic, please limit your answers to this thread only to animal poops(!), results of human defecation is rather ordinary and i think it was already discussed few times(?)
