An artbook to Kingdom Come: Deliverance is in the making

Czech game store Xzone together with the game developer Warhorse studios are joining forces to publish an official artbook for the world class Czech game Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The artbook should be published by the end of first quarter of the 2019.

“Artbooks for big games are common in the world, but this is the first time publishing a book of this scale in Czechia,” says Martin Schovanec - the CEO of Xzone, a company that is well known in Czechia for its eshop. “For 17 years we have been creating our own merchandise as special gifts for new releases, but this is the first time when we are actually creating a global product that is going to be licensed. We jumped in headfirst and we want to publish the book in English German, and Czech.” He adds.

“In our company we love such artbooks and merchandise. We have hoped for the longest time to publish our own artbook which we would buy ourselves, as fans of the game. In my opinion the best part about the artbook is that the readers will have all the beautiful works of art made by the Warhorse artist in one book. Most of the art has never been published anywhere and here it will be accompanied by the developer’s commentary. “Adds Josef Netrh from Xzone Publishing department. The developers have reconstructed the historical city of Rattay on Sasau during 1403, with its historical sites, historical artwork and much more. All of this will be in the book.

“The talented people who worked on the game every day were thinking about every small rock, brick or beam that was finally placed into the game. I think that the materials chosen for the book show that nicely. I believe that people who want to look behind the scene will enjoy this book greatly.” Adds Mikuláš Podprocký, Art director of Warhorse studios.

The Art of Kingdom Come: Deliverance will be published in format that is common for such books and will have around 250 pages. The average retail price is set for 26,99 EUR. It will arrive to the stores during the first quarter of the year 2019 in three languages: English, German, and Czech. There is an exclusive preorder site at www.kingdomcome-store.com where you can order the English and German versions of the artbook along with merchandise for the game.

Are you trolling your fan base here? The game is still riddled with glitches and bugs. Consoles have atrocious performance, missing textures, really bad lip sync, clipping armors and popins EVERYWHERE! Instead of fixing all theese glaring issues, you guys make DLC, that breaks even more stuff in game, and now an Art book? Are you serious? How about fixing the game that people paid 60 bucks for. Optimize, optimize and optimize… Then, when the game is actually worthy of the definition art, make the book.
I think you guys have handled this game so badly. I was really looking forward to it at release, but now I see that your company is interested in one thing and one thing only… MONEY!

Of course we are working on optimizations of our game the whole time, and we want to fix as many bugs as possible while offering new content, and also new free content like the Tournament DLC or the Hardcore mode to keep the game alive.

The Artbook wasn´t made by the Scripters and Programmers in digital C++, but is a collection of already existing Artworks made by our Concept Artists and external partners who created a book out of it. There was no workforce lost in the process regarding optimization here.
So why not both?

I suppose it costs a bit to make that book? Why not funnel that money into fixing the game? I bought the game on ps4 at launch, fps in rattay or any other busy place is terrible, and pop ins are close to gamebreaking (for me). That is due to the fact that this game was sold on total immersion, and all those glitches and performance issues, running close to a year now, is pulling me out of immersion every 10 min in game. A book won’t help with that, will it? Nor will Dlc. I held WH in high regard before launch. It seemed like you guys were different than other companies. But now I see you are not. It’s money for you guys. If you REALLY wanted to fix the game, you would focus ALL your time on optimization, instead of DLC… I paid 60 bucks for a game that was unfinished and mostly broken…It still is! It’s November now… I really think your game is a really good idea, and want to play it. But as it looks now, I can’t. Only played to the village where you have to find Ginger… Can’t be bothered to go on, until the game feels like it is working. Sadly…

There isn’t an opportunity cost that harms the player with making the book. So not sure why you’re so put off by a book.

Popins on PS4 aren’t gone in 1.7.1, but they are much improved. (Fwiw, I delete and then re-install with every patch and keep fewer than 8 save files.)

WH announced a DLC road map. Not sure why this is a problem when a company tries to make good on its plans.

Optimization? The pace has been seemingly slow and painful. More performance patches need to be released apart from DLC release schedule

With free content, you mean the cut content from KCD (Kickstarter trailer) that Vavra promised to do his best to include into the game after release, but we have barely seen anything after tons of patches? Seriously? Don’t you see wasted potential and broken promises?

@DrFusselpulli Christian I appreciate WH is trying to add content such as the tourney, but those items are unlikely to fundamentally alter the perception of the game and its quality. Adding some of the missed targets in the Kickstarter would definitely change the perception… they’d even be worth it if they triggered more break-and-fix performance cycles

If I sell a car with 2 flat tires and a busted front window, missing rear mirrors and broken side mirrors, I don’t try to fix it by installing a cool steering wheel and some other bling. That doesn’t make my car run. I figure that book will cost money to make… So why not use that money to fix the base game, and dlc and extras (time and money that could be used to fix base game as well), does nothing when the base game is still a mess. I really can’t follow the WH logic.

the flat tires have been fixed and the car can make it to the finish line, even if at times, it handles the turns more like a clunky Lada than a finely tuned Evo

don’t believe money is the rate-limiting factor. quality mgmt involves much more than throwing money at problems. WH has shown some improvement on the quality mgmt side of things but obviously there’s still room for improvement

DLCs do provoke opportunity costs but telling a game studio that it should cease and desist with its DLC efforts to solely address bugs and performance issues is unrealistic

hell, Boeing’s software ‘feature’ appeared to kill a plane worth of people. Boeing isn’t stopping all of its other activities to address the matter. not sure why WH should be treated differently

They’ve to get more money so they selling books now. It’s for more profit to fix all the bugs lol

Should’ a started on PC as originally planed learn the ropes and quirks of the game and like other studios release on other platforms and code to their limitations.

Art book all fine if it’s production doesn’t affect normal operations. I see as showing what was not in the game and making the players wish even more for some of those things. Like for me the Beta Merchants shop and village street as seen on an early vid demo.

Non Vignette DLC. Instead ones that add more to the game. (hint: W3 hearts of stone). Don’t give a DLC that short changes what the players wanted and no possible later expansion ( combine both in one larger DLC worth the price). Heck I want the Butchers dog before late next year, and aggressive boar and wolves and bears. Mod support before the late mid life of most players interest. Recode the FPS sucking areas of towns due to poorly made building design , more like the rest of the areas that don’t eat so much resources.
Better stop or end in a long already many time mentioned rant than have a book on a game not quite finished right.

Those are stretch goals and they are exclusively included in price to backers from Kickstarter, so the other players have to pay for that while some DLCs were not planned or promised as a goal before, like Hardcore mode.

You’re getting confused. I’m not talking about Kickstarter stretch goals, which some of them were included after KCD Kickstarter trailer due to their success. I’m talking about announced features prior and within KCD (Kickstarter trailer ), like mounted NPCs combat, weapon crafting, large-scale battles (not scripted low fps mess but free roaming ones), very populated cities (but we got few NPCs with massive pop-ins and low performance/optimisation), etc. Here is below another example of a picture from WH before the game released, which gave us the impression that we’re gonna be in situations like that, but not at all! Was this promising over their capabilities, or just intentional hype to make sure you’ll buy the game? Where are these mounted NPCs attacking us during the road trips or in the forests? Hype train :sunglasses:

Ok, I could understand that they “didn’t have the time to correctly implement them” due to bad planning/unexpected events that always occur, but it’s being 9 months since released! Where are these features, despite Vavra promised to do his best to include them? No, let’s buy “DLCs” and Artbooks instead to support them, cause WH is different to other developers… but they still didn’t manage to fix the game and include the cut content. No more excuses, Warhorse…

In lieu of large scale battles, had hoped KCD would have individual combat AI, (team) formation AI, and (battlefield) tactic AI for smaller scale battles. Would be lamentable if neither implemented by the end of KCD DLC road map

Vignette DLCs and not having those game features/mechanics will eventually leave WH at a competitive disadvantage. Certainly relative to Bannerlord should it ever be released

The issue here is you are selling us products that don’t work. Instead of Pinning an Artbook, why can’t you pin a meaningful post as to why people’s games are currently unplayable for almost 2 weeks. Post something about why 10% of us cannot actually play the game. Instead the newest patch actually destroyed our game. Are you going to start selling a new DLC before this issue is fixed?

Thanks  and have a funny game. Personally I can’t stop playing it even though there is lot of bugs I am still fan XD
