Analysis of the Witcher 3 Trailer

If you really love the Witcher series check this out. IGN does a frame-by-frame analysis of the new trailer. There’s actually a lot going on that you don’t realize until it’s pointed out.

IGN’s Witcher 3 Trailer Analysis

With Kingdom Come: Deliverance coming out in Q4 and the Witcher 3 coming out February 24th of the year 2015 will be great for RPG fans! The only thing missing is an Elder Scrolls game rolling out for a trifecta.

i didn’t like the more colorful art style, it feels they are competing with dragon age.

i hope they still retain overall the realistic and grounded look of the armor and materials in the second game, even though i see horn helmets. yikes

also, elder scrolls game? like another skyrim? no thanks

I think Emhyr’s throne room might be the one in New Vizima.
I also suspect that the Raven might be Yennefer ~ in the same way as the Owl was Phillippa in the “Battlefield” at Vergen?

They missed the ‘Easter Egg’ page of text at the end of the video, which explains a lot of what it shows, and is a CDPR hallmark.

A lot more ‘clued up’ than the Gamespot analysis, which was Ciri-ously from another planet.

Who wants to play TES if you could play W3 and KCD at the same time??? :stuck_out_tongue:

About trailer analysis: it always depends on how much you actually know about the witcher world. It’s something completely different if you know all of the books or not. Anyway, I think these trailer analyis are pretty pointless.

I must say I don’t like that colorful style either. Also I really don’t get why the wild hunt soldiers look like half-giants with a skeleton armor. Maybe I have forgotten something, it’s been a long time since my last reread, but they should be…different race, I guess. Aside of that, trailer is pretty cool, especialy soundtrack is great.

The Wild Hunt are a different race (from a different universe…). But they apperently wear these armors to freighten people for whatever reason. It’s not their real look. I don’t like the look of the armors too much neither tbh…

I think the color palette is good. It’s colorful where it should be and dark and gritty were it has to be.

Read the books. Almost everything is perfectly accurate, even helmets with wings and horns.

I like the colorful art style, it looks amazing. I don’t really want to play another “hey, let’s put everywhere gray color” game. Get up from your chairs and go to the forest guys, world is like that, not dark and boring

i don’t think triss should wear clown suit colors. just wear the whores clothes or something like a traveling brown clothes

Wasn’t quite that bad… with mods. But that’s quite normal for Bethesda games, isn’t it?

I don’t want to spoil myself to much by watching trailers/analysis since I haven’t read the books. But after playing TW2 6 times in a row right after release (yes, I had lots of time back then) I just preordered the CE yesterday. Still one of my favorite franchises.

Don´t know what you all have with Skyrim. I really love that game. Sure the graphics are not the creme de la creme but the gameplay and especially the main story and secondary stories are just awesome.

Yea, I know who they really are in the books (don’t want to spoiler), I just don’t like how they are portrayed in the game. Effort to make them as much badass as possible is clear, I just don’t think it works. They look like Lich King in Warcraft, which is quite funny.

Exactly my thought.

The main plot and secondary missions of skyrim just awesome?   ok sorry for that but this must be the worst trolling i’ve ever seen

It’s at least a serious contender for a bad taste contest…

@Freix
Agreed. As I said, I don’t like their look that much in the game. I think CDPR makes a failure by designing the looks of characters by their character traits.

Geralt looks like a cool badass, every woman supporting Geralt looks like a super model (although this is true for sorceresses), Emhyr looks evil, the Wild Hunt looks evil and badass and so on. That’s actually against the basic rules of displaying a well-written or realistic character. You don’t always see from far away whether a person is “good” or “bad”. I fear in Witcher 3 you do… :expressionless:

You don’t know much about sorceresses in the witcher world it seems. They really like colorful clothes. They would never wear “travelling brown clothes” if not absolutely necessary. They enjoy luxury, colorful and exquisite clothes. Only Yen is known to always wear black and white clothes.

Yep exactly, especially in the Witcher world, “bad” vs “good” distinction shouldn’t be so obvious. Also Emhyr scared me a little bit. I don’t think he should look nor behave evil. And he certainly wouldn’t make threats to Ciri, I really don’t get that remark about “she’ll get what she deserves” so I’m really curious what is that supposed to mean. (He could have spoken also about Yen, but I can’t come up with reason why he would care about her.)

I liked the trailer, didn’t really notice it was more colorful than the last one or anything.

Never read or played any of the Witcher books/games. But I have been looking forward to this game since it was announced last year. Looks insane. The new Trailer is amazing, warrior beast slayer magic guy. Not to mention the lovely ladies.

Time to start with the already published games at least. Even if the Witcher 3 would be really great, it can’t get much better than the previous two.

Bringing a bit more of color and detail into the world, that was there in Witcher 2 already and I think it was great and seems to be only getting better. Makes the whole world look much more alive… actually, yeah. Simply alive.
If you take a careful look at each part of the trailer, there will obviously be enough space in this game both for beauty and colorfulness (which doesn’t really look too exaggerated, srsly) as for the dark, grey and gloomy parts.

One thing that didn’t exactly thrill me was that point with Geralt shooting a small crossbow at a bear. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Witchers generally avoid the use of ranged weapons, it had something to do with a heavy belief that shooting anything safely from afar is dishonorable and you ought to give your opponent a fair direct fight and let your skills do the talking.
Remember the Professor in Witcher 1 shooting Geralt with a crossbow? That was one very symbolic moment in line with the lore…

Aside from that… Yennefer and Ciri! Yennefer and Ciri!!! Finally!!
Damn, I can’t wait for this game…
Which brings me to one more thing… did someone seriously mention “Elder Scrolls” next to The Witcher and KCD?

Yepp, crossbows are confirmed:
“The crossbow. Yup, Geralt has a ranged weapon. Because monsters fly and you can’t stab them.”
(from the hidden message in the latest trailer)

I don’t like that element much neither as a great fan of the books and lore of the witcher world. Witchers use swords and signs but no crossbows.

But hey, it’s only a minor complaint which can’t really cloud the overall good picture. I hope at least that we don’t have to use crossbows for many enemies…
