I sure do wish that I knew how to play the violin right about now.
Yeah, communication would be the key here…
I funded the following games on Kickstarter…
… and received a gog.com key for:
- Double Fine Adventure (Broken Age)
- Wasteland 2
- Republique
- Tex Murphy - Project Fedora (Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure)
- Dead State: The Zombie Survival RPG (Dead State: Reanimated)
- Broken Sword 5 - The Serpent’s Curse
- Project Eternity (Pillars of Eternity)
- Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey
- The Book of Unwritten Tales 2
- Torment: Tides of Numenera
- Sunless Skies
… and have no doubt I will receive a gog.com key for following games:
- Underworld Ascendant (https://www.othersideentertainment.com/forum/index.php?topic=1871.0)
- System Shock (mentioned in kickstarter)
- OVERLOAD (mentioned in kickstarter)
- The Bards Tale IV (mentioned in kickstarter)
- Banner Saga 3 (see Banner Saga 1 & 2)
… and highly doubt it for the following game:
Star Citizen (Chris Roberts will probably create his own platform
I would be really happy to receive a gog.com key for Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
Dislike for Steam is hardly “unfounded.” But if you like Steam for some reason, that’s nice for you.
Still waiting to see how/if things develop to give loyal Kickstarter backers a GOG option.
Yes, I realize that, but despite the uninformed contributions in support of Steam from other posters in this thread, KC:D uses Steam’s DRM. I’d rather not have to log in to my Steam/internet connection every time I want to play the game, but now I’m stuck with Steam, and there’s no way for me to sell my Steam copy so I can instead buy a proper non-DRM copy on GOG. Extremely disappointing.
Yeah, I wrote that before game released. We didn’t knew if it will have DRM or not back then. Apparently game is using worst of Steam DRM options. Most of the time when a game have Steam DRM you can play it in offline mode. Not in this case. Hopefully it would be included in GOG Connect.
GOG Connect would be a great option. I also emailed Warhorse to ask them to consider this. I won’t be playing the game on Steam, so fingers crossed.
Good that I didn’t activate mine yet, too. As long as there is hope for GOG connect or such I will wait.
I got answer from support on the matter: “we didn´t had GOG keys available during our crowdfundign campaign and GOG wasn´t planned at this point. It came in as an option very late, and all the contracts, database, taxes and so on are connected to Steam. To change this whould need a huge amount of effort, which we can´t do, because we don´t have the capacities to do so.
That this answer took several days to reach you should show that we don´t have spared capacities left to work on such an offer”.
Oldy - thanks for the info, which is similar to a response I also received a week or so ago. However, that explanation doesn’t change anything about a possible GOG Connect option, which would simply need Warhorse’s consent to make an agreement with GOG, independent of the contract/tax/etc. etc. issues they’ve raised regarding their prior Steam agreement. Given the strong support among the customer base for GOG Connect, I’m cautiously optimistic they’ll engage this option after the GOG release in a couple weeks as a sign of respect/accommodation to their loyal Kickstarter backers.
I don’t use GOG Galaxy, so GOG Connect solve nothing for me unfortunately.
I still doubt all other even smallest dev companies who provide gog keys for backers have enough resources for all that “huge amount of efforts”. But they provide regardless.
You don’t need GOG Galaxy to use GOG Connect.
GOG release probably due to Deep Silver being bought by THQ Nordic.
Thanks for the explanation Warhorse, but I don’t get why you have to change taxes, etc. The game will be on GOG on the 27, so everything should be arranged there.
And what about GOG Connect?
Well at least there’s an official answer. I’ll just go ahead and redeem on Steam. Hopefully it’ll come on GOG Connect if it can. Otherwise, I’ll wait for a deep sale to double dip on GOG.
I find myself in a similar situation.
I backed the game and was hoping for it to be released on gog aswell as on steam, because i much prefer gog. Now The game is availiable on gog and I own it thanks to my pledge. Yet I do not own it on gog but on steam and there is no way for me get my gog version besides bying the game all over again.
I really hope that there will be a solution to this problem, some way to swap the steam key for one on gog.
as things are now I would have been better off not backing the projetk at all, which is a sad thought.
As above metioned:
If I would have known, that there will be NO GOG key for backers, I would not have backed the game, sad as it is.
I am deeply disappointed how things were handled with rewards, and now we dont get a GOG key?
Seriously, we supported this game, I hope the devs give us a solution and GOG keys!
I wouldn’t mind NOT getting a GOG key if my physical collector’s edition was DRM-free, but IT ISN’T. So right now of course I want a GOG key, at least one way or the other (physically or digitally) there SHOULD be a DRM-free option.
My copy is practically useless now, anybody want it?
I’ll take if you don’t want it.
