Becoming a lord

(I wouldn’t be surprised if this would become a mod, but I would still love to see this in the future acts)I understand that the game is made to not revolve around you. But from the gameplay I’ve seen I would love to have a future gameplay mechanic where you can buy real estate and recruit men to your army with either money and promises of riches, convincing them to join your army by using your silver tongue, force them to with threats, saving their lives, or sparing them in a duel. It would still be very difficult and not have the game revolving around you because you can’t be everywhere at once. Meaning one of your houses could be raised by bandits. Also your men would be able to take over settlements, but your men aren’t all good people and will steal from the villagers or get in fights and you can either let them or stop them and punish them. Also your army could have a hierarchy, where you have a right hand man and captains and then foot soldiers. But your soldiers can become angry with you and take over. Or the king can see how powerful you are getting and come and kill your men. Or the simple peasants could get tired of you and trow you out. The throw out feature would a really interesting element because your old soldiers would be people you come across in your travels. And it would add a higher quality of life to the game because you could begin a quest of revenge so that you could kill your betrayer. Or people could recruit only a few trusty men. These few people will also have stats that level up just like the players and you can assign them different jobs, so one could be a skilled Archer while the other an excellent swordsmen. You could be mercenaries and charge people to save them, or do everything put of the kindness of your heart. This group of men could also just be your “friends” that you drink with or in the quests they could help you convince people to do what you want. But I can totally see how this would fall under the section where you would say the game is revolving around you, and I understand this would not be easy in any way to do, but I would love to see this in a future act.

Low self esteem?

K, I don’t want this forum to seem mean to ideas we don’t like.

The thing is that this game is trying to tell the story of a blacksmiths son in a realistic historical setting. Him becoming a lord just isn’t in the cards for this character.

I recommend the mount and blade series for something similar to what you described.

Becoming a lord is more fun that being a worthless peasant usually
Would you rather be working at mcdonalds at age 60 or be filthy rich like gates or jobs or someone

So i can see how this is appealing to even a person who has high self esteem. However keeping with this being historically accurate you would not be able to become a lord without being of noble birth. So this in essence is impossible, However there are other ways to get what you desire.

Just because you cannot be a lord does not mean you would be unable to attain everything they have outside the noble title. You could become the leader of a bandit group that takes up residents in the forest and you build your fort out there while recruiting others to your plundering group. No one said you have to be a good guy after all. Also you could become the head of a mercenary group and use the money you gain by waging war on others behalf to buy you land to set up a garrison and as your name grew more mercs would come to join you.

Both of these would have similar effects, There is no honor among thieves so whos to say unhappy bandits don’t try to take over your band of thugs? Or perhaps the lords of the lands you have been plundering send their armies out to remove you? Similarly mercs have a bad reputation so picking to work for a certain side could cause issues with certain lands as you killed their people and aided their enemy or if you grow to popular you could have a king demand that your group becomes part of his army.

Like i said there are plenty of ways to pull this off without nobility after all, I do hope the idea is entertained at least as it would add another level of depth to how your choices would effect the world as a hole.

After mastering a thousand ways to die, I’ll just go back to mastering my Blacksmith skills, that my wise father wanted me to be.

Gee…I wonder why?… maybe it has something to do with the fact that it would be the coolest thing ever:joy:

Cus in the real life they’re peasants. The only way to feel themselves good is to be something valued in game. :smirk:

You might be knighted eventually ? Hey at least you can infiltrate an abbey !

It would be cool if we could just be immortal and as in Age of Empires, we would go through ages eventually ending up as kings of the universe. Hopefully, somebody will mod it in.

Let’s become…the dragonborn
