Combat becomes trivially easy by mid-game. This MUST be fixed

I think most people here just did what they normally do in RPGs…

I don’t commit to the main quest almost exclusively. However if I did, the game would have been much more difficult but that’s not how I play RPGs.

I explored the world, ran into bandits, killed bandits, dueled knights, did side quests, got gold and got better gear. I played the game doing that for about 15 hours. Once I went back to the main quest I was destroying everything - I don’t think it was meant to be this easy. But there are a lot of factors here that make the game too easy.

  • Leveling is too fast and allows you to snowball the game

  • AI is REALLY bad.

  • Once you have 10+ Strength combined with Heavy Swing, Brute, and something like Savage nobody can block your attacks anymore unless they do a perfect block. Your damage is so high it exceeds their defense stat and they are staggered and take damage almost every time. I think enemies may need to scale, especially more “elite” enemies.

  • Armor is meaningless. Full plate warriors can still die in 2 Longsword attacks. That isn’t challenging, nor is it realistic.

Unless you go into agility and take the fast striking perk, I don’t see anymore mid-late game executing combos much and definitely not the more advanced techniques you learn way later on that require 4 or more strikes because everything dies so fast. This to me is a HUGE BUMMER. I don’t think this was intended on Warhorses behalf.

It’s actually SO EASY that I am making a new “combat” character and deliberately taking perks that negatively impact strength, warfare, and sword just so I can’t kill as fast. Now if I manage to get snowbally by deliberately building my character as a “talker diplomat” but still destroy everything that’s how you know that this game is still flawed and it’s RPG mechanics aren’t what they need to be.

But don’t get me wrong, I love this game it just needs performance tweaks, and game play polishing and very badly needs balancing.

He wouldn’t die for me. He stayed immortal at one health. I had to let him kill me in order to continue. Pretty lame. Feels bad man.

Agree 100%. Except I took the fast striking perk and everything still dies in 1-3 hits.

Have you completed the game? When you say “mid-game” do you know you are in the middle of the game?

15 hours doing side-quests prior to tackling which part of the main quest?

This is why we need level scaling

Direct level scaling more often that not makes a game feel boring and pointless imo.

I’d urge the devs to not look into level scaling and instead have set stats/perks for enemies in different areas, at different parts of the quest.

Some people SHOULD be pushovers and others SHOULD be powerhouses.

It just seems they overlooked Henry’s max capability at high STR/WEAPON skill versus too many opponents.

People keep tossing around terms like “mid” and “late” game, but I personally don’t know where that is in the title as i’ve quite far from the end, i’m sure…but it’d be helpful if people were a bit more specific.

Are they saying during Castle Siege missions they just walk through the entire enemy force without taking a scratch, or that they can mop up an entire bandit camp?

So the game starts out hard but if you’re willing to sit in the arena for an hour you level up your stats halfway. That isn’t a middle ground for people who think it’s too hard to cop a way out? Which is really how most of you got your stats to shoot up to begin with?

I agree 100% the combat becomes very easy even tho i try not to get op perks but still its easy

Yea I agree but I didn’t figure how useful training was on my first playthrough so I was a little ways into act 2 with strength 6 or 7 maybe the devs were banking on the fact that it would take awhile for people to figure out useful ways to level up and get better. The whole game is about figuring things out. But I don’t think it turned out that way. Hopefully they tune this with the 2 week patch.

You clearly ignored where I pointed out the AI can’t even block. You can’t fight realistically in the first place since everyone knows most men at arms ended up ON THE GROUND and rarely did things stay standing, and the stabbing dagger was used far more in these encounters. So I’m tired of you all spewing this realism BS that is a non factor in the first place. And to spew the realism BS and say the real world doesn’t matter, well that’s simply stupid.

This game was always stat based and was never skill based to begin with. Sure they have mechanics to immerse you in a little of how guys fought because without harness grappling this shit will always be unrealistic.

Lastly, quit feeding me this you want a challenge. You want to sit in a chair and pretend you did something. Well I’m not impressed.

You’re an awful little troll, and now it’s time to stop posting. Virtually none of your posts thus far have been constructive or respectful.

While I know there is no fixing the AI - there is this mod. Might be helpful in providing a challenge.

What are you even blabbing about? Do you even know at this point, or do you just enjoy acting like a bitch?

Ehhh. I tried it, but I can’t really see much of a difference. Combat is still way, way too easy, even with the “more enemies” and “dangerous roads” mods. Really, the fundamental problem is the lack of enemy health / armor relative to player damage output.

LFMAO so you’re getting your panties wet because some people want a challenge? Is that it?

And I never denied that the AI needs work. Get your crazy ramblings straight. I actually even agreed with you.

But you’re so hilariously all over the place that I have no idea what the fuck you’re even talking about. You made a point that the AI is flawed. But… you don’t want a more challenging game? Or you do want a more challenging game? What?

You’re talking about realism this, not realism that… who gives a flying FUCK?! Get your thought process straight and get to the fucking point.

And what’s this repeated notion of “you got the game because you want to pretend you can use a sword” in your previous few posts? I think a lot of people got the game because they want to get their medieval on. I don’t want to “pretend” I can use a sword nor do I really care about “immersing” myself in horseshit. The majority of people who bought this game could give two shits about history, it was more so “open world” and “rpg” that caught their attention.

Dang that’s a shame - well with the amount of buzz this topic is becoming lets get it to some more modders and hopefully get it worked out. I don’t imagine this next patch will fix anything related to the scaling of the game so I’m kind of relying on mods at this point.

Yeah it kills the fun out of the combat when you get some good sword and armor. Enemies can’t basicly damage me even if I let them hit me and I one shot every enemy. Like I was running around for some good scrap and found one of those mercenary guys who want to fight for money. I thought like what ever, I can beat him but atleast I can practice my combos. Well, I couldn’t since the first strike from combo hit him and he gave up. After that I found another one and thought like what the heck, I’ll hone my riposte timing. Thing is my first riposte was pommel in the face and he gave up.

I don’t care for damage sponge enemies but around mid-game the combat just get’s ridiclously easy. I mean, I don’t even bother anymore. The game is fun as balls and the combat mechanic is awesome but the dificulty scaling is a total fuckball. Early game is punishingly difficult, especially if you, like me, ain’t a player who used 100’s of hours in beta. And around after when you beat runt you start to get seriously good gear (if you didn’t grind it forehand) and the combat just becomse trivial. I’m still enjoying the game but man. I just want enemies who can atleast take a hit. And parry couple of attacks. And atleast try to hit back, since for some reason it feels like enemies are now just standing in front of me and not attacking. That is, if they don’t run away or give up instantly when combat begins. I appreciate the fact that dev’s wanted to make it feel like NPC’s have some will to live, but c’mon. Let me fight from time to time. Combat mechanic is awesomeballs. Let me use it.

I seriously hope that devs pick this up and to somekind of difficulty adjustment patch soon. Now I feel like I’m missing out on the game since everything is one hit k.o. and i don’t get to enjoy the combat.

Can you please advise your current ability stats and corresponding weapon skill?

I’m also curious what you mean by “mid-game” as I haven’t read a walkthrough and have no idea if i’m in early/mid/late. I’d assume i’m still in early game, just finished the Ginger Quest and am now supposed to travel to a town in the north (Uhlitz I think).

Thanks.

I’ve got 17 strength with the “savage” and “brute” perks activated, and my sword skill is something like 15 or 16 at the moment. My Warfare skill is also pretty high. My damage is showing up as either 135 or 163 – I’m assuming that’s some kind of UI bug. It’s way higher than armor values for plate, however.

As for mid-game, skills and attributes cap at 20, I believe. Starting at around skill level 10 (or a little below), the game suddenly seems to become dramatically easier, especially after you learn how to riposte from Bernard. At the time of making this thread, I hadn’t gone hunting with Capon yet.

Ahhhh, I think i’m beginning to understand why some people think it’s super easy then.

Thanks for that input. I’ll be ignoring stat and weapon perks until I beat the main quest I guess.
