Combat System Update!

Looks good and I cant wait! Ahh just look at that scenery

Kingdom Come: Delivering on our promises. Or at least it sure looks that way more and more with each video. I’m really looking forward to trying this type of combat out. After I sleep off the current relish from how promising the combat seems so far, I will just start looking forward to how they plan to handle the sneak and stealth mechanics
and then just for the Kingdom to finally Come and be Delivered ASAP.

But more seriously now. I also think that the almighty defense button may be a bit too much. It might be better if blocking actually reqired holding the button to switch to defensive stance/mode, but also to make reflexive movemets with the mouse (while in this mode, holding the button) in the approximate direction of the incoming blow to actually carry out a successful block.
Although this simpler defense variant might also be a good solution for those less confident players who are kinda afraid of the combat’s difficulty. It might be a part of a switchable difficulty option.

One thing that I found interesting was that show-off of possible weapon combinations in the hands of various warriors. I noticed a turkish-looking fighter dual-wielding scimitars. Which means a sort of dual-wielding combat is going to be implemented in the game? Will it be locked only to specific NPCs, or available for the player to use as well? On one hand dual-wielding can be a very effective and spectacular fighting technique if done well and is also quite sought-after by gamers for looking cool. But if I’m not mistaken, it was not very common among the actual continental European swordfighters of this (in game) time, so there’s a question of authenticity for a choice like the player character using it as well.

I like what I see, and while automated blocking is kinda lame it does help increase the speed of battle which I believe will make for some intense and interesting moments. Also can’t wait to see how good the AI is?

I like what i see so far
i think i will pledge a good amount soon. I have 2 questions
is automatic blocking (the one button block all) an option? or for people than wants a more skilled oriented play can activate manuel block? (like in mount & blade). Also you said it often one on one battles
but if I am high level can I still attack
lets say
a convoy with 3-4 guards and hope to win if alone (balance beetween realistic and fun?)

Thank

I wonder if there will be a possibility where we can throw certain melee weapons toward the enemy? something like knives or small war hammer can be dangerous when thrown, especially toward less armored opponents.

other than that it’s fine but need many improvement, polish and improvisation (especially with different weapons and shields).

Nice! Looks good, although directional blocking would be better, even if optional.

Is that a battle of Grunwald!? There’s definitely Polish and SIlesian troops out there, fighting Teutonic Order and their allies. if so, awesome! (although it’s not for 7 years since the supposed start of the game, 1403?). Czech troops fought in that battle alongside Poles and Lithuanians,.

To be honest I am kinda afraid of the simplicity of defense system. if you can just hold one button to prevent all strikes then what is the point of feints or failers, call them as you like? Wouldn’t it be better to have something like in Chivalry:MW, where you have to aim in the direction of the incoming weapon ? with the difference that you can hold the def in one position and the position would be determinated by mouse movement while holding the block button ,kinda like in Mount and Blade. Other than that we shouldnt be able to thrust through plate armor, a new bouncing off animation like would be nice for that.

BoN sucks balls, its just bunch of dudes hugging. All they need to do is just to trip the oponent so half the fight they just start using rugby moves

Thoroughly enjoyed the video. From the engine used and the previous video detailing how outfits and armors work, I would imagine it would be difficult to add dismemberment or equipment destruction with the dynamic variations of attire available. If it has to be one of the two, I would lean more towards customization.

Not saying that dismemberment would not be a welcome factor, if it ever gets added into the actual game.

Looks really interesting. But one thing I didn’t like was the hold to block all button. I could see that being OK if the player was equipped with a shield but not without one.

Another thing I noticed is the fact that the player seems locked onto the target, which makes me wonder how fighting multiple opponents will play out.

After viewing the combat video, I am thoroughly impressed and can’t wait to see the final version. Well done!

As promised:

Battle of the Nations

German longsword tecniques

i hope they give an option for directional blocking. we know it’s possible for directional attacks. in one scene, the player switches his attack from right to left to trick the enemy. so same could theoretically be applied to blocking or parrying.

however, it seems there are 5 or 6 attack directions and it would be slightly confusing especially if the enemy is fast, you won’t be able to read him quickly enough to know which direction he’s attacking from. aside from technical issue, this might be one of the reasons they went with one button blocking.

Did the medieval martial arts experts you work with tell you “blocking is super easy”? Because a one button block system is very unintuitive, ESPECIALLY when you have directional attacking and feints.

Please don’t skimp out on half the combat system, the defensive aspects.

Well if you think about it in real life, when are you going to move your sword away from the other sword to block it? The one button block is simply a “move your sword to the other sword” button. It eliminates the possibility of doing something in the game that you would never do in real life. The block button will not all ways work though. It’s a timing thing, just like real life.

I just looked up the links listed in the video for the "martial arts experts."

Looks to me that their focus is stage fighting. Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with that, of course, I just think there are better sources if you want accurate, martially valid combat skills.

an interesting argument

Nice work and nice combat engine but I don’t understand the “block everything” button: in a game with melee combats the best way is to use manual defensive system (like WB). I’m playing WB since 2010 and the feel of the combat system is wonderfull (the only thing in that game :P) cause a player is strong due to his parrying skills.

I hope to see the magic “block everything” button disabled (even in option)

And a last thing: More combat video!

Thank you for pointing this out, I didn’t think to check it from seeing it in the video.

Yeah I kind of wish they would have decided to go with someone else.

“Stage fighting” and theater fighting is not usually realistic nor historically accurate. In fact a lot of the things are done because they look “cool” and for the cameras/audience.

I think having ARMA/Hema, or a group that focused on historically accurate combat would have been a better choice then getting “hollywood” style stage fighters

APPROVED!
As im doing medieval reenactment combat its really realistic what you made here!
Perfect wouldnt change anything! Good job
