Do NOT put any "Gameworks" features in the game!

  1. Gameworks kills FPS for both AMD and NVidia users
  2. Does NOT improve image quality whatsoever (look at The Witcher 3). I guess it is the same thing here…
  3. Is NOT used by ANY nvidia user, since it kills performance (maybe perhpas 1% of all Nvidia gamers use that)
  4. Anti competitive, meaningless, Anti-gaming friendly
  5. Therefore - this should not be implemented in any new title. This kind of thing should be forced by developers to be shutdown completely.

Please, excuse my ignorance, but what these features really are?

Things like TXAA, PhysX, HairWorks, FaceWorks, WaveWorks, HBAO+. All of those kill performance. Do NOT use any of these Nvidia features unless you want to view a powerpoint presentation of the game you are playing in sub 30, sub 20 FPS.
Check https://developer.nvidia.com/content/introducing-nvidia-gameworks for more details of what “GameWorks” includes and then watch this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7fA_JC_R5s and you will have the proof. I already had a bad experience with this crap in the witcher 3, even though i got a GTX 980.

If they dare implement ANY of those GameWorks features in Kingdom Come, then I will not bother buying the game, I will give it a rating of 0/10 with the worst review I can possibly write and that will be it.

I have no idea if you are correct, but deciding on a rating before you played the game is just idiotic.
And if you don’t play the game how will you review it?
And then you are basically trying to threaten the developers that you will write a poor review… Really?

If you think the devs should do something or not do something, try suggest it with some good reasons instead of threatening them.

While you make good points and I agree with your sentiment, your reaction to the possibility of “ANY of those GameWorks” being implemented is pretty toxic and you should be ashamed.

Let’s say the game runs incredibly well but has TXAA and HBAO+ as options (which I should remind you are OPTIONS, plenty of games have those as options as well as alternatives to said options). Are you so childish that you would review the game a 0/10 because of this fact?

Honestly, I hope you reconsider how you approach this game because you are acting like a child and I don’t want that kind of unreasonable and toxic pedantry permeating our community.

As far as I know we don´t use gameworks and it is not planned neither. Thats all I have to say according to this topic.

I almost hope you do now since this Weeaboo trash came in here going full retard and throwing a tantrum.

Wow, just wow… Now I really hope they give as atleast HBAO+, just to screw idiot like you

Not to mention that Witcher 3 runs just fine with HBAO on, even on my weak card, only hairworks eats fps like crazy for me.

@ WhiteSkyMage
Sorry, but what is wrong with you??? Did Nvidia slap your mum in the past?
Additional visual features will cost performance…thats the way it is!
You say that Witcher 3 dosn’t look better with e.g. Hairworks?! Please clean your glasses!!!

"Anti competitive, meaningless, Anti-gaming friendly"
dafuq?

I pretty much agree, features shouldn’t be added that favour one brand of graphics card.

I think he’s saying it’s anti-gaming because it supports Nvidias reign as king of graphics cards, which isn’t good for anyone but them.

OK guys look, I know i went a little too overboard being mad at devs instead of Nvidia themselves. Thing is that Nvidia is keeping those features to themselves. In some extreme cases they go as implementing those as defaults in the game engine (ex. Gears of War Ultimate).I do not want this to happen in Kingdom Come nor in any other upcoming game. And in this end of the day, it is developers that “accept” Nvidia’s proposal, sometimes without knowing the bad story behind all that.

What did AMD do? GPU Open - they even optimized their features for Nvidia cards and made it open source. Everything that devs implement as Nvidia feature, doesn’t work well for AMD, however when they do use TressFX instead of that HairWorks, visual quality stays the SAME, but your performance is a whole lot better, no matter if you use AMD or NVidia GPU.

Now I do use an NVidia card, just to tell you, I ain’t a fan boy, I want to see competition, not monopoly. In the end it is you, the consumer, who has to pay for the expensive hardware and games, and you want to have what you paid for and probably have a reason to choose to buy Nvidia or AMD. It’s easy for some people to favor NVidia as the GPU “king” and say that AMD is in a way bad cuz their GPUs probably do not perform well in this x game (perhaps because GameWorks is behind all). Also as a developer, you would want your game to be of a high quality, hell that’s why you probably chose to use “GameWorks”. And that’s why I would blame a developer for using closed source instead of open source features that work well on any kind of system. If all the devs could turn their backs to all the closed source software, FORCE Nvidia to support open source technologies (like FreeSync) and make their own features open source, then it would be only competition on a hardware and drivers level between AMD and Nvidia, and competition between the game companies would be mostly on the games themselves and how well they optimize them, while they all have Hair features and Physics features and whatnot - open source all available to them and supported by GPU manufacturers.

It’s fine if Kingdom Come supports a feature like say HBAO+ or TXAA, but hell I do not want those to scrap performance/experience for any player using any hardware, nor I want any company to benchmark this game on GPUs using Gameworks features that would end up crippling AMD’s performance.

Well, now we can really agree on this topic  You are right in this sense, because Nvidia really is using its power and money to force opponents out, and it really is quite dirty move.

Just dont blame devs, don´t waste their effort by lowscoring them, that is just another dirty trick that you are fighting against.

Since all GameWorks features can be easily turned off, i don’t see a problem here. I personally would like HBAO+ or maybe even VXAO to be implemented because it makes image so much better.

No it’ s not so easy. In Fallout 4 I had to Google 1,5 hours and change a Ini File bevor it Works. AMD made later a Patch. But you want play a game when you buy it. Not 10 days later. And if this game is not THE Game maybe there is never a patch…

Thanks for the info. What exactly did you try to turn off?

Can some one explain to me what the hell is Gameworks? and TXAA, PhysX, HairWorks, FaceWorks, WaveWorks, HBAO+ that this gent seems so upset by? Im wanting to build a computer myself so this knowledge would be helpful.

tl;dr “Hi I got an AMD card I don’t want you to add functionality to a game that many other backers have supported”

Things like TXAA, PhysX, HairWorks, FaceWorks, WaveWorks, HBAO+ are optimization techniques that procure a result with a lesser computational cost (which will translates into “higher FPS”). Nevertheless, some of them are not designed for “gaming” but just for non-execution time rendering, and others (like PhysX) can improve the game while running but are optional (it can be used software based physics instead, which are less efficient but more compatible).

First, this is a really bad time to build a PC - New GPUs got announced yesterday from Nvidia and there will be more from AMD after Computex in the end of the month.

Second, have in mind that GameWorks works well only on nvidia cards, since it is optimized for CUDA. With AMD cards, things like PhysX run on the CPU, so your frame rate will get low.

If you are building a PC, then why not say your budget, what games, resolutions are you targeting and what settings. To tell you, even if you do get a good price/performance Nvidia card from 1000 series, that just released, depending on FPS and game, you can try using PhysX. Be mindful of stuff like Hairworks, cuz this will kill your performance no matter what beast of a card you got.

First thank you for the advice, but I really want to know what is Gameworks and TXAA, PhysX, HairWorks, FaceWorks, WaveWorks, HBAO+. I dont understand what they are and how they ruin a games performance. are they like the hardware the gpu uses or something?

Hi,

All of the techs you quote are developed by Nvidia and each is supposed to “enhance” some part of graphics.
TXAA is their own anti-aliasing, HairWorks is supposed to enhance hair rendering, faceworks for faces details, etc.

The fact is, when a videogame company goes for those techs, the gpu producer writes them a check or something like that, because AMD cards can’t use those.
So basically, implementing those techs is advertising for nvidia.

On the other hand, AMD does the same thing (Mantle, TressFx, etc.) and while this ones are open/free, nvidia won’t use it because they have most marketshare and want AMD users to feel isolated.

And all those techs are ruining performances for everyone most of the time.

Using those techs is just basically taking part in the battle between the GPU producers, and the only victims are the players/customers taken as hostages.

Any ethic game company would boycott it without a second thought.
