Game Difficulty settings alternative

Hey,

How about instead of the standard Easy, Medium, Hard, why not implement REALISTIC and GAME.

Realistic being no NPC markers, no Quest markers, no compass, no map, you must explore the land, ask questions, search for the places/people you must see.

I personally would prefere to play this way, games are often made to easy and laid out, which takes away the essence of one of the sorts of games.

and game setting would have your general maps, compass, markers etc etc

Obviously there are many other things that could be done, but i would like to see a setting for those of us who really want to immerse ourselves into this amazing world that is being created.

This was already discussed in at least one other thread. Unfortunately I can’t remember which one. I would much more prefer a granular approach, where one can choose difficulty settings for single items.

e.g. Compass: None, only directions (N, S, E, W), with questmarkers and so on.

No compass or map at all is not realistic, that is adding artificial difficulty and nonsensically calling it realistic. Realistic is making compasses and maps expensive, and making your character create a crude map himself if you cannot afford a detailed map made by monks, even though Europe had printing presses in 1300, I cannot find any maps printed from before the 1470’s. Warhorse would also have to make sure the sun rises and sets correctly, correctly place the North Star, and inform the player of that so they can get direction from that. It would be pretty rad if in order to view the map or compass your character would have to pull them out where you can see the items in his hands in first person.

I personally like games where you can ask a guard on where to find another person or an location, where the quest descriptions are detailed enough to find stuff without questmarkers or where maps are non-interactive (and actual ingame items).
These things add to the flair of a game and enrich the exploration part.

The problem with this is, that it isn’t as easy as making an option to switch off an UI element. The game actually has to contain more information so you can find stuff without UI help. For the cases named above that means quite a few new dialogues (carefully crafted considering realistic NPC knowledge and keeping NPC daily routines in mind ), items and probably a few more road signs and perhaps NPC guides. If this is all already in there, then it’s just a matter of switching off some UI elements, otherwise it might a bit harder.

Just make it yourself with the modding editor. people need to stop forcing their ideas on the developer. While this is a pretty cool idea. It is a ridiculously large amount of work you are requesting of the developers. It may seem simple on paper. But this could take extra months too complete. so no thank you.

Did i put a gun to anyone head? No.

I am not forcing anything, i simply posted the idea i had in the forums for anyone to few and comment on, isn’t that what forums are for… Discussion?

this is posted in the off topic category, if he was trying to force his opinions on the devs he wouldn’t have posted it here.

this is a great topic of discussion, you keep telling people to do things themselves and mod it so why would you cut them of from a place where they can discuss their ideas?

no, it’s realizing people in olden times didn’t have luxuries like compass or map, they navigated by astronomy, keen sense of direction offered by memorizing landmarks, sun location in the sky, etc, etc. artifical implies something that is created for sole purpose of frustrating players and doesn’t exist in reality. sorry, but map-lessness and compass-lessness were real things.

Did you only read the first sentence or something? I said that maps and compasses should be expensive, and if you cannot afford them you use the sky and landmarks. THAT would be realism, maps and compasses existed in 1400, they were just expensive. Please actually read the entire comment before you make one of your own.

i realized my error, i did not realize this was in the off-topic category, i am making a formal apology here.

Sorry for the rudeness in my post.

I politely stated my opinion and clearly stated “no thank you” as a response to your post. Is that so wrong? What i am finding very confusing is although this was posted in the off topic category, this is still a request of the developers. When i said make it yourself, i should have added, or someone else could do it with the modding editor, But then again. This would be a lot of coding and voice acting.

Again, I think this IS a pretty cool idea. So good luck!

way ahead of you

With all due respect, I do not think you are right in this regard, since to add this game system, it should be at the base of the game.

Otherwise, would happen like skyrim, that the game is not intended to be (so).

I strongly agree that many things will have to do with mods. But things like these should des implemented in the beginning. Thank you very much.

yea i liked the idea, it is good and could not harm anyone since the original layout would still be intact. People who backed the game with the intentions that the original settings would still be their are fine. So if this is implemented than for the better! This would be similar to the Hardcore and Casual setting for Fallout New Vegas. Playing both versions was fun, so if Warhorse once they are back on track and implement this without anything going wrong and on time. Than sure why not? Thank you gutics. your argument is one point and i agree with you.
