Grade of violence display in the game

The animations should at least be accurate, I dont want jumping up ragdolls the moment you kill them like in skyrim or sent enemies flying 3-5 m after the killing blow. Make them die over a short time from a mortal wound, but not to such an extend you could call it sadistic torture  Hacked off limbs should be mandatory, especially with the big ass swords and axes we like to wield. The way blade of darkness did this was pretty epic, depending on the killing blow hitting angle and point of impact you would slice an enemy in half, split off the shoulder and arm, cut off arms or legs, or head for that matter.

Dismemberment only for kill hits like in most games, if your char would get maimed you would be dead anyway and thus no missing body parts possible if you live.

Iā€™m all on board for realism but I also hope thereā€™s a blood/gore slider as well since Iā€™m willing to trade less blood and spare bodies on the field for improved performance. It would also make the game optionally more family friendly

Iā€™d sure love to see two things, wounded characters still trying their best to put up a fight and severly wounded, dying characters lying on the ground in pain. Humans really just donā€™t die like snap when theyā€™ve had enough, but keep on fighting until thereā€™s nothing left to keep the body going, and due to all the stabbing and slashing thatā€™s going on there should be lots of instances where after a battle or fight you should have several characters downed, bleeding but still alive.

Itā€™s nothing crazy like 100% chance of dismemberment but simply a reality and would surely bring an extra flavour to the gritty world, fighting and killing someone shouldnā€™t be *swish-swosh-stab you-are-dead R.I.P".

for family friendly, try the sims medieval

This thread seems to focus on dismemberment and amount of bodily fluids getting out of the body.

What bothers me, however, is that so far in Alpha deaths are of the typical Hollywood peaceful bullshit style. Killing a person is quite a hard thing to do and the actual process of dying is mostly anything but peaceful. Coughing blood, shitting, asking for help, calling mama, crawling on the ground. Unless you hit central nervous system in the neck or above or a major artery, the process of dying is anything but fast, anything but peaceful. I understand that this is a level above the usual ā€œcut a limb ofā€ that the game industry normally provides, but if realism is the goal and if the game will provide also non-violent way of playing it (and possibility to win a fight without actual killing), then I believe that the violent way should go the extra mile and be as realistic as possible.

I donā€™t need dismemberments but properly applied blood and wounds would be great. And there should be an audio-visual implementation of pain, which means people who really suffer from attacks. In a realistic game violence should have realistic consequences which means people reacting in a realistic ways like crying in shock and pain when they get wounded or die.

For the visual application of wounds I really like how itā€™s done in Overgrowth. Of course it would require changes for armoured battles in which blood and wounds should only appear in ā€œweak spotsā€. And blood should emerge from within, soaking up clothes. Strikes or stabs with sharp weapons in weak spots should lead to visual damages of clothes.

Iā€™m not saying family friendly is for everyone 213  just that it would be nice to have the option if desired. It would be cool if this turned out to be a game Iā€™m comfortable letting my kids play

Yeah, why not? Letā€™s just cut all violence from the game and all sexual content from the game. And swearing. And opponents donā€™t die, God beware, they all only play with each other and live forever. And of course the story tells a cute fairytale of a nice and friendly medieval Disney setting in which you dance through fields and of flowers and hold hands all day longā€¦ :stuck_out_tongue:

Forget it. This game is not going to be a nice family friendly game buy your children a game suited for them this isnā€™t going to be.

the type of death you mentioned is also largely a hollywood invention created for additional drama. someone who is incapacitated is likely suffering from major shock, cannot utter a word, just trembling and slowly drifting away into unconsciousness. lesser wounds probably means theyā€™ll be on the ground trying to crawl to safety.

i mentioned sometime before in reaction to the death animation of alpha, which for now only consists of a ragdoll, that they could use some sort of blending like in max payne 3, grand theft auto, red orchestra 2, and some other games where a death animation plays and then blends into a ragdoll. this can generate a lot of the desirable effects of debilitating injury rather than just seeing someone go into instant braindeath and keel over.

red orchestra 2 was particularly praised in its hayday as featuring very brutal death animations and they were done well. shots to the neck had the character stumble over, grab their neck, writhe on the ground while a blood curdle sound is played. so specific injuries are reflected.

You should read up on some war memoirs and talk to people that are first responders in traffic accidents.

Also, anyone who has been seriously wounded knows that initially, the level of adrenalin is high to the point that they are fully aware and functional up until the point the blood loss makes them, as you write, ā€œdrift awayā€. Up until that point they are trying to deal with whatever happened to them, and that dealing is not done in a calm nor orderly fashion.

Sims Medievalā€¦ remember my king was killed and tossed in a ditch, his face cut off and worn by a rival later on parading as him and beginning a tyrannical reign of terror. It was a weird game.
