(guide is bellow the introduction)
Hi there, I just want to share my experience and knowledge with the insanely hard (at start) lockpicking and pickpocketing. I am now about 40 hours into the game, mainly doing side quest and have a decently build character with what I think is a quite OP sword. Im playing on PC, but with a XBOX controller (it is more comfortable for me so do not judge pls, I am here to help:). Lockping was a decent hell for me and I was forced to do even the easy locks with my mouse, then continue with a controller. Now, I pick even very hard locks with no mayor problems with my xbox controller. For Pickpocketing, you just need to know the mechanic. I will explain everything
LOCKPICKING:
…Hold your LEFT analog at 12 o’clock, this analog will turn the lock (do it VERY slowly). This is the easy part. Just take it slow.
…Find the gold spot with your RIGHT analog. The sweet spot is the gold circle. Notice, how it gets bigger and smaller as you move it. This is not very important throughout the actual Lockping, but it will help you understand the mechanic. When you move it in the wrong direction, it will get smaller and the controller will start to vibrate. This also means, you are destroying your lock.
…Start turning the lock very slowly counter clockwise (LEFT ANALOG) and simultaniosly move your gold sweatspot also counter clockwise in a circle around the lock. Sweet spot will also change it’s location slightly vertically around its circle, so keep it in mind and adjust it accordingly.
…Keep in mind the vibrations, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT as its a perfect indicator, if you are getting away from the SWEET SPOT (gold circle)
…Your GOLD CIRCLE must stay visible the whole time
…DO IT SLOW and you will succeed after a while
…Lockping is easier after each lvl and ivested perk, so do not get angry, if you will not get on the first try
PICKPOCKETING
…Start ONLY on sleeping NPCs, they are much more easier to pickpocket early in the game
…Hold down the Pickpocket button as long as you can
…A CIRCLE TIMER with changing colour will appear, this shows you, how long can you pickpocket an NPC after you release the button (more is better), but keep in mind, that the timer must stay as far as possible from the red colour. When it is green, you are OK an the chance you will get noticed is minimal.
…After you get around 10 on the timer, release the pickpocket button and you’ll enter the NPCs pockets.
…Here, you must first uncover the items and then select them. This takes time at the beginning, so choose items that are closest to the EXIT pockets door.
Remember, take your time with lockpicking and do not rush it. Go very slowly at first! Pickpocket only sleeping people first! You will get better at this eventually Good luck and remember to have fun!
