by best you mean worst? It’s completely broken and game breaking late game. Sure you gotta put some effort into it but it’s totally broken. I started a new game and will refuse to use the bow in hopes I can make the game more enjoyable.
You could just not equip a bow? A longbow could easily penetrate armor in the 1400’s and a shot to the face or vital organ would easily kill a person, a lot of the time their plate armor can deflect it, but if it gets through it’s going to be game over.
Just an observation (zero complaints) why is the yellow center dot there when no weapon is drawn and disappears when you draw the bow?
Personally, I hate having to stare at the yellow dot 90% of the time.
#RemovetheYellowDot
On a similar note, I’d love the option to hide the health/stamina meter when not in combat. Henry and the horse give plenty of indication on where your stamina is at.
I appreciate the minimal HUD but the top, bottom and yellow dot are hard to look past outside of combat. 2/3 of those things aren’t needed.
I know some want them, but the option to hide at times would really please a lot of players.
Place your target in the center of the screen, and never fight against the bow swaying. Let it sway while holding back the bow string and release when as it moves your target to the center. Biggest thing is to not fight against bows movement…works for me atleast
A little dot of blu-tac in the centre of your screen is the solution.
let me give you some advice cuz i had issues at the start but now i can hit anything and win every competition with ease… fist of all ill teach you the old FPS trick for games that didnt have Reticle for the sight… get a piece a clear Tape, when ur character is walking around i crouch you see the yellow dot in the middle of the screen, draw that dot onto your piece of tape and match them up so its taped on your tv… now when you pull your bow and that goes away in game its still there for you to see.
now as far as actual shooting goes… the trick is to aim your shot before you pull… once you pull its very important YOU DO NOT MOVE AGAIN… your job with the stick is done unless its a moving target obviously but lets just stick to target practice on stationary things and Contests… get good with that and the understanding of it then moving targets will get easier… anyways… depending how far away your target is, determines how much higher you need to aim above where your actual tryin to hit… for the contest you wanna aim right above the white… literally right where it meets the next ring of black… now when you pull back your aim is gonna pull to the left or to the right, DONT TRY TO FIX IT let it go, once your arrow is pulled all the way back hell come back towards where you originally started aiming and when you get to that point you just release… now if thats too fast for you and you dont feel comfortable shooting that quick thats ok let it pass the target area because all its going to do from this point is rock back and forth left to right until your too tired to hold the bow… you can easily pull and hold for him to go back and forth twice and releasing on the way back the second time… Keep in mind tho you want to practice releasing off that first pass because in a contest the first one to finish gets bonus points.
I’ve had a quite enjoyable experience with the game so far on Xbox and still nowhere near the halfway point! There’s been a few things that were irritating but as is such with all games. Definitely worth my money IMO.
It’s really not broken, but it could be improved. You have to wait for the arrow to be fully drawn, and the left hand holding the bow to return to the centre line, before releasing. Same as in real life. Multiple stages to set up your shot, but until you have fired 10000+ arrows (in real life), these stages will be messy and distinct, not one fluid movement. The game does a good job of representing this as Henry’s bow skill improves. Once you max it out it’s a bit too easy if anything. You are all too used to playing games with crosshairs.
Do aechery skills increase when you go hunting too? Or do you need the competitions at the range to get good?
Competitions did Not Work for me…
Yes! someone else gets it!!!
I’m too used to playing games with iron sights, I detest using crosshairs for any kind of shooting in games whether that be guns or bows.
When you’re firing an arrow in real life do you sight down the arrow tip (assuming it’s a bow without a scope or other inbuilt sights) or do you sight a few inches off as the game is doing?
Depends on the bow, your shooting style, and whatever you are comfortable with. When I shoot traditional bows I use both the natural shape of the bow, (some people etch a mark on the left of the bow to use as a fixed point) and the arrowhead (the arrowhead will generally be pointing under whatever it is you are ‘aiming’ at up to about 40m, depending on the draw strength. Because of screen size and resolution, we wont be firing beyond that distance accurately in game). I’ll try to draw a picture later to show what I mean, and how it would look in game. If you use the side of the bow to aim, then yeah you will be shooting off to one side, not by a few inches, but by a fixed number of degrees - that means the further away the target the more you have to adjust. This is why sights and optics exist, an archer will ALWAYS be more accurate with a real sight. But it’s also exactly why we don’t use them in traditional shooting, we prefer to train our muscle memory and instincts to shoot well without a sight.
I just discovered an awesome trick for the archery problem today.
When henry doesnt have his a weapon drawn, the yellow dot shows!
all you have to do is, when about to aim, unsheathe your bow and yellow dot will appear.
Aim yellow dot at target, sheath bow and shoot.
No more adjustments have to be made.
best way to practice this is at archery range.
of course, bow still sways slightly left and right, i guess that all has to do with how high or low your archery level is and if you’re using the right bow for the level you’re in at moment.
I discovered this by a total fluke. I went to rattay range to practice and didn’t have my bow equipped and saw the yellow marker and a light bulb went on.
You still have to time your release with the light sway left and right though.
I now kill rabbits with ease and win most archery contests.
Not perfect for fast moving targets .though for obvious reasons
Archery is one of the strongest weapons in the game. There’s a clear reason for why it is difficult to pick up early on, but the moment you get the hang of it, it makes everything else a joke.
Even given its initial difficulty, they’ve added tons of ways to ease the difficulty: playing chumps in Ledetchko to quickly level up the skill (and even a bonus if you score high enough), wearing vambraces to negate the whiplash damage in the first 4 levels, and a drinking perk to reduce bow sway by 25% that can be combined with a potion that has alcohol and improves your bow ability by 5 points.
The only way to counter a bow is if the enemy had a shield and had it up, and even then you can aim for the legs. They usually try to rush you, but the moment they try to attack, you can instantly hit them up close with a full-power arrow that cannot be countered, can pierce armor, and stun them long enough for you to pull another arrow in. It’s honestly ridiculous how powerful archery is. If you combine the maintenance damage bonus and horse +15% damage bonus, you can pretty much one shot almost any non-full-plated enemy with a better piercing arrow and ash bow. Not to mention they’d never be able to catch up to you and you can just ride your horse a short distance away and take a safe shot again.
I can’t help but feel like this post reeks of entitlement, as though you wanted a simple peasant to be able to pick up a bow and instantly become a master longbowman in 15 minutes. This isn’t Skyrim, it’s Kingdom Come.
I find archery in KCD an extremely satisfying experience, why? Because it rewards your real mastery as a player not your character stats (even if course they play a role), I went from always missing to mostly headshots because I personally invested time in learning and training my skill, now I naturally aim right most of the time and when I miss it’s just an opportunity to adjust my shot. Nothing better than shooting an enemy running towards you in the head.
