I have to agree Slvrbuu, despite you pictures Amraye, underwear of the style you have shown was no that common, especially for poorer women.
I have been to a few re-enactment events from 1000-1500 and also a few re-enactment markets, have a few cloths books etc. There are little to example of female under wear bar a linne shift and linne or wool stockings. Men had what we would call underpants. Women tended to wear a linne under dress, and there woolen or linne Kirtle that laced up and kept them in/in place shall we say⊠and then on top of that they would also wear another larger Kirtle called an over kirtle.
Trust me I have had to borrow old group kit at events, that was a little toâŠloose fitting up top, I could not pull it in tight enough and just a little too low for me to get away with discretly wearing any of my modern underwear up top as it would have been noticableâŠI would have killed for something like that. Even went looking for some authentic female underwear at a huge UK re-enactors marketâŠloads for men nothing for wome bar linnen shifts and stockingsâŠinequality or what?! lol
