Fair enough, but take a look at Witcher 2. One scene with a women, half naked, chained to a wall as a prisoner of war which I imagine is realistic to some degree, and they were flamed until it was removed. This is what I mean. Imagine full nudity in a game, by the developers. Regardless of what they do with it, if anything at all. Why do you think even CDPR didn’t add full nudity. Only breasts and butt.
if i remember, people interpreted that scene from witcher 2 as gratuitous. i think they were whipping that character, so her dress was torn off.
they did not complain about the prostitutes being naked or the companion character triss appearing naked several times(full frontal nudity).so i don’t think nudity is an issue, but how it is used and in what context.
if done realistically, there should be no issue with interpretation. people should understand the game is only trying to be realistic.
What other reason to have it in there if not to use it for some reason or another. People didn’t exactly run around naked just because they were naked beneath their clothing back in the 11-1500s, realistically. Unless they plan to add a romance scene, or prostitutes. If all you’re interested in is to see a naked male and or female (which I would assume there would be both) while you’re changing your clothing, you should see underwear anyway. Unless you’d also like to change your underwear. Bra’s are new, I can understand no bra’s. We did however wear underpants for a long time.
“Bra’s are new”
Original, c. 15th Century
Modern reconstruction of the above piece.
Bra’s are new means it wasn’t common for lesser class to wear them. My bad.
I find that doubtful. Maybe decorated examples like this would have only been available to the nobility, but you can’t go by lack of extant examples to say “lower classes didn’t wear them at all,” because it’s VERY rare for textiles to survive even for UPPER class garments. And for a variety of reason undergarments rarely, if ever, got mentioned or depicted in Medieval sources.
I didn’t say at all. I said it was uncommon. When you look at old depictions of the past, most of the time the breasts are not supported by a dedicated bra, they are supported quite normally, outside the clothing. They were made part of the clothing. So taking that clothing off, would in turn remove the bra.
What depictions are detailed and realistic enough to make this conclusion? Reconstructing period clothing from the available sources requires a LOT of trial and error, precisely because it’s often difficult to tell what, exactly, the artists are trying to show?
And once again, undergarments are rarely depicted at all.
Like @Ambaryerno said, lots of the items and pieces of women’s clothes today did not exist. It was actually a fad within certain dynasties and kingdoms for women to walk around topless. Some of you guys and gals have to remember that sex is a major historical point within every time era. There are even sex statues within the ruins of Pompeii, but with this being said I am not looking for pornography (which was touched on in another thread). How mature will the game be?
@213, I think this game would be missing a piece of content if there wasn’t nudity; and this is looking at it from both the male and female counterpart. The developers have said that this game is going to be realistic (which is very relative until we see more in-game footage) so nudity was a thing back then and nudity is a thing right now. I would love to hear your what you’re thinking about this whole thread.
For my personal opinion though, this game is going to be for a mature audience. If individuals and groups can’t stand language, violence, and nudity/sex then they probably shouldn’t be playing this genre then. This game is meant to be as realistic as possible, there are certain things that have to be done and not to be edgy or new but to be real. All of these things are in the real world, now whether or not you decide to see this is your choice.
I believe in the posters point. Men are never so manly as when they’re naked I’ll also post this quote “It does look great. But I have to side with StrangeCat. Even if when “released” it may not contain full nudity having it made with this in mind would be helpful for modders. It has nothing to do with the pornographic side (which is likely to come from any realistically made game.) for me it has to do with aesthetics and roleplay. For instance gambling with someone and you take everything he has. Mugging a man and doing likewise. Passing out drunk and wondering what happened, going to take a bath, going for a swim in the lake. Shocking people by running around town uncovered (likely leading to being arrested) So making the models with this in mind and making the game with this in mind. Where if you don’t released the game with nudity (which I hope you do. I always wanted to see how well a developer creation could come out instead of mods) you can apply the same effects to the permanent undergarments.”
When men are naked together they more readily form strong bonds of kinship and loyalty. This is in part why the military has public showers for their soldiers. There is no problem with nudity it should be appreciated and not overly sexualized.
funny article about undergament and dress codes in wenceslaus time frame

@Madaras, I am loving your explanation. I agree with every sentence man!
Also something I forgot to mention:
@Brbbrb, I really do like your ideas with gambling and such. I think this would bring a whole new level of immersion to the game.
@ThomasAagaard, thanks for screen-capping that picture from the second update video. I thought I was seeing this incorrectly, I didn’t know at this point if there would be nudity or not within the game.
Lets consider that during early middle ages, before the plague, communal baths were popular. In Prague is one such building from that time preserved till today. It burned in 1848 and was rebuilt. There is a music club in the building today.
All I’m asking or suggesting is, is there any call for nudity besides the fact that it is there, just to say ‘Look! We added nudity because it’s realistic!’, and then you would need to go out of you way (more than likely) to see your character naked, because you would even need to remove underwear. Will we have public baths to visit? Will romance be enough of a factor to warrant a romantic scene? Will mugging happen, if it does, will they take even your underwear? Is there going to be torture (which is mostly done near naked to prevent any protection from lashings and the like), is it worth it to completely strip fallen enemies for their gear.
If they do add it, is it just going to be the women, which would be stupid, because we’re so intent on using realism as a factor.
In the end, all I’m saying is this is pretty much not relevant to such a game, in my honest opinion. I’m not against nudity, I would love to see it just because (both genders), but I’m just saying it’s best to let modders do this kind of thing. As they normally do.
Hey, there is options in games to turn blood/gore off
wow, what an interest in such a minor matter…
but keep in mind that some countries don’t like to see nudity in games and that they will be banned for it. at least to 18+.
thats not good if you want to sell any game.
why dont leave it to the modders? in skyrim that worked very fine… and only the one who really want it get that kind of content.
an extra layer for clothing would be nice where the underwear would be placed. unremovebale in the normal release version, but nobody could be blamed if any modder would change this…
Dobře jsi to řekl Jen co je pravda.
@Jorge I think you’re confusing me with another poster, because that’s not what I said. My point is that you can’t draw conclusions and assume such articles of clothing didn’t exist at all just because of a lack of evidence in artwork. The bra I linked was COMPLETELY UNKNOWN until an actual example was found, because A) textiles rarely survive this long, and B) period art doesn’t tend to show people running around in their skivvies.
There is. But that isn’t a GOOD thing. It’s the poor attempt to be politically correct and cater to puritan media and politics in the US. Nobody cares about that stuff in Europe on a societal level. We as mature gamers should be against those limitations of creativity.
