Insane amount of bugs so far

I’m in a play through of the game right now, and I’ve not even made it half way through and I’ve run into more bugs in this game over a year after launch, than I have playing games in alpha or beta testing. Rust didn’t even have this many bugs in beta testing, and that game was the gold standard for cancerous bugs. I’m not trying to be rude, nor am I trying to be funny. It’s astonishing to me that a game that’s done as well as KCD has managed to make it over a year without resolving some of these issues. The revenue this game has made is no secret. A lot of copies were sold, so I don’t really want to hear excuses about how Warhorse is a small studio. They’ve made more money with this game than large studio’s/publishers have made with triple A titles. Hire a bigger staff with all the money you’ve made selling copies of a broken game to consumers. There’s just not quality patching taking place after the sales. In my opinion some of this stuff is borderline fraud. There are game breaking bugs still present in this game, while it’s still being sold for full price in the steam store.

Here are some of the bugs I’ve run into so far, and I’m not even half way through the game.

  1. Private Area Warning doesn’t show up sometimes, and will lead to arrests.
  2. Bird In The Hand quest is bugged. When I put the cages in a chest for storage, it claim’s I’ve deployed the cages for the quest.
  3. Nest Of Vipers sabotage says you’ve completed the sabotage after only poisoning half (2) of the pots and burning half (2) the arrows, but then later on claims you’ve failed sabotage while confronting Radzig.
  4. Bernard will quit weapons training for no reason less than a half minute into training and walk away, returns to post bugged pacing back and fourth. <~ This one is game breaking for me. I can’t train for longer than 25 to 30 seconds without being stopped.
  5. Textures still don’t load often, even if I have LOD distance maxed, and r_TexturesStreamingMipBias -3. (can be fixed by changing texture quality once)
  6. Archery competitions will take so long to load, the 2 competitors often times have already fired 5 to 6 arrow’s before the loading is complete. Because the competition rewards the first finished archer, I’m at a disadvantage because there’s no way I can finish first.
  7. The entire Baptism of Fire mission had a texture bug, i posted an example below , several posts down.

How can you ethically and morally sell a game to people, knowing full well there are bugs present in the game that have the potential to make it impossible for a user to complete the game? The folks who play this game need to realize how unethical this is. It’s not like Warhorse doesn’t know about these issues. I send in support tickets all the time. They just never respond.

The two major ones for me so far , are the private area bug, and the training bug. Combined, one is ruining my reputation in every single town I visit, while the other prevents me from actually training and becoming competent with weapons. It will take me hours just to advance a single level with a weapon because Bernard keeps walking away. And everywhere I go in town I’m shunned because I keep getting arrested for no reason.

I just want to add, so that this isn’t strictly negative. Outside of bugs and optimization, this is the best game I’ve ever played. That needs to be said. I think the developers already know how magnificent their game is outside of bugs/optimization, but just in case they don’t, I’ll say it.

Yes, it’s a shame to see such a great game suffering from so many bugs and glitches…
Texture streaming is still one of the biggest problems in my opinion. Texture layering would be the next…

Imagine how much more successful the game could be if it would be optimized.

Not even an option to hide/customize HUD after one year. I’m going to touch this game never again and forget about its existence. And yes there are a lot bugs, but Warhorse is not interested to fix them. They completely ignore our posts. And everytime when a new patch is coming, other things get broken.

Not interseted to fix them? I think 8 patches would say otherwise. Your just mad they are not implementing your crappy HUD idea.

In some cases it isn’t a hard crappy HUD idea work. This is simple programming for WH.
And a comment that it is not easy due of the complexity of the game engine, would be a totally crappy answer!
But @Chessqueen
Try to contact the guy of that mod,

Maybe he is able to do some first steps for a custom HUD mod (and maybe a base for WH to port and improve)

You have interesting bugs, though the one with wench is similar to one with guards from old version, when they tried to search you for stolen stuff but the player screen was still loading, and they attacked player while in black screen. I had no trouble with Bernard.
The Bird in the hand quest is tricky, I had to google, so you put a cage, go far away, it will tell you when the cage is ready to pick up, place another, and so on with all cages.
I tried to sabotage lower bandit camp, but did not sneak to the upper, so I can no tell what is missing. I also failed.
Those textures popping up are either on low or ultra high settings for me, even if I have 60-70 fps, it does not affect it in a better way.
I had no problem with archery competition. It seems your game loads really long, did you try lowering settings slightly for shorter screens?

I saw this in other topic. Though, I had plenty bugs on my first walkthrough, now clean new walkthrough, no bugs so far. Especially, I did not have such bugs shown in here, and I spent 276 hours in it.

It just keeps getting worse. I played Baptism of Fire, and the entire battle had a texture bug where everything looked like I had some LOD bias set to really low. Similar to what people use in FPS games when they want to visibility hack. I’ll post screen shots. I didn’t realize the bugs were going to keep getting worse. I might have to re compile a whole new thread if I can even finish the game because I don’t want to do it bug by bug.

I tried changing the LOD distance render, but its set to max, and i also tried some of the console commands for textures. The only thing that ever seems to fix the texture bugs is completely re-booting the game, or loading back to a previous save and hoping it doens’t return.

It’s so sad. If not for the bugs and bad optimization, this is probably one of the best games I’ve ever played in my entire life. However, because the bugs and optimization are so bad, it’s become one of the most annoying games I own. Both of those issues can be sorted out with more staff. You would think Warhorse would be able to hire some more staff if they don’t have the manpower to patch these bugs. It’s not like the game didn’t sell.

And just for the record, I’m not running old or unique hardware/drivers. I’ll post my specs below.

Windows 10 Home - latest updates
I7 - 7700K
GTX1080 - latest driver
16gb DDR4
1440p gsync display

I get over 80fps when I’m playing, so I don’t really think it’s a compute/graphics issue. If anything I would blame the hard drive, but I’ve played this game on an HDD and an SSD , and the problem exists on both. So I’m pretty sure it’s just the game. I turned off HD sound and HD textures , and that didn’t fix it either. IDK man. I’d love to assume it’s something I can fix, but once I take a step back and look at all of the evidence, it’s overwhelming. This game is not in good shape.

The only thing I can say is I have seen complains from people with other games where the game developer was very much invovled and they said that even though you may have a completely up to date driver, the different brands of components sometimes gives them trouble.

I have the following:

Windows 10
16 Gig of ram
I7-6700 running at 4.0 (not overclocked or anything)
Titan 980 TI
Graphics are set at 1768-992.
I just use a 2560 TV for my display. :frowning:

I have not had your issues at all. So, the developer i know once said, if you’re the only one having issues it is your machine, but if a lot of people are having issues…

I’m not the only one having these issues. One of those videos isn’t even mine. Read the comments on them. Tons of people are having the same issues. There is not a single issue that I’m having that are exclusive to me. I have found tons of threads and posts from other users experiencing the same issues. I can show you them.

I don’t use mods. The problems I am experiencing are happening with several other people as well. I don’t just post threads on the forum immediately. The first thing I do is search the problem to make sure it’s not something I can fix. The issue with the textures is a well known problem with the game. It’s one of the most complained about bugs. The issue with bernard is on youtube , uploaded by multiple users. Apparently that bug has been around since a patch in november? I appreciate the help though. I’ve got a library of well over 50 games and I don’t have problems with any of them. Not at this rate anyways. Sure some of them have bugs, but this game is unique in the bug department. Go read the steam reviews. Every single bad review is about bugs, and most of them are written after the launch date. They’re not from beta.

I’m not saying you’re the only one. But sometimes it is the computer.

Oh kk, yeah we all can change our minds/opinions. I do not want to get involved into that situation.
But for me, a developer solution would be perfect but it is clear too that WH will never intergrate such common things. Okay they decided to implement things like FtA (Skyrim + ACSR2 features) but more affection could lead to its situations that all studios currently suffer who creating a big and expected game. The fans want even more extra content. And that would possibly take the target from the eyes.

@gerardfraser Do you think you can integrate some HUD elements into the advanced settings?
Or maybe you are able to create a complete new HUD section in the options?

kk, and what is with a user.cfg?
