KCD immersion and expansion ideas, MUST READ

I was just wondering if some of these features will open could be added to the game by the end of the dlc road map period:

  • waffenrocks to display belts when wearing a cuirass

  • unique and a variety of buyable sword scabbards

  • more realistic way to hold arrows preferably adding a belt that makes it look like the arrows aren’t floating or super glued to the actors back

  • maybe lower the arrows to the actors lower back or hip area to make it more realistic although I don’t know how this would appear with a bow equipped

  • ability to forge custom weapons and choose the blade, hand guard, and pommel, and name it

  • skinning cutscene when looting an animal

  • ability to place a campsite as in a sleeping bag or small tent with the option to make a fire that can be used to cook from and display the sleeping bag roll on the back the saddle if it’s in the horses inventory

  • display weapons that are in horses inventory along the horses saddle or armor, maybe showing the sword you have hidden away in your saddle bags dangling from the saddle

Some of these may be overwhelming or too much but it’s fun to brain storm the game is a play right now with so much anticipation on the upcoming dlcs it has the attention and support to expand I’m personally excited with the announcement of tournaments and can’t wait to bring Henry some fame in the arena or etc i hope jousting will be implemented as well.

Thank you for showing attention and continue to brainstorm below and support the warhorse and kcd team.

Simply no.

The only practical and “necessary” option here would be the ability to set up a temporary campsite, especially in hardcore. These can be rare/expensive for balance

The point of the creation of the thread wasn’t to argue what isn’t and is “practical” but to show support, discuss, and compare realism in KCD and to encourage or motivate the warhorse and kcd team or even modders to improve the game we all love. If you keep up with the process you would be aware mod support for kcd was shown on the dlc-expansion road map.

What was listed above are only examples to the purpose of the thread.

Thank you.

I’m not a hardcore gamer, but my understanding that we Console Plebs (PS4 here) won’t benefit from mods. And based upon months of complaints of bugs and mod problems, I’m pretty sure I don’t want them.
However, I agree with a few of your suggestions, especially the campsite suggestion.
One thing I suggested some time ago was to have Henry be able to dismount his horse and lead it around by the bridle.

I agree with the belts showing over the waffenrocks. Can live without unique scabbards but would like sword, bow, and shield to be attached somehow. doubt we’ll be able to forge weapons since blacksmithing was cut. It would be cool if skinned animals looked skinned after you skinned them and antlers disappeared from carcass when you take them. Maybe a skeleton be left when you take skin, meat, organs, and antlers. campsite would be cool but might be abused if you are able to sleep and save so maybe just sleep so you still have to use schnapps and own bed to save. I also want the bascinet’s aventail to go over all the other layers. a flirting dialog option with all female npcs like in the old way of the samurai game would be funny.

Perhaps something could be added were we are able to buy and customized a sword through dialogue options with a master swordsmith after a quest or two and of course have to wait a certain number of days before receiving and even given the ability to choose and buy the handguard, hilt and pommel through dialogue with the sasua engravers at the outside monastery

XBox One Patch 1.5

I’m a little miffed that one can’t drink and Store water from a well or take water from a stream.
I’d like to see more focus on the horse too, stats that show the horse needs water and food, or its tired.
When checking in at an in, there should be a "grooming " option where some one comes and takes the horse to the barn and feeds and waters it for a small fee.
It also seems a bedroll carried on the horse should be an option.

I’d like to see Henry be able to choose a wife, build a house, own a mine or stud farm to name a few things.

I like the water idea. Maybe also an option to wash your clothes at a stream.

Every game has ideas that get discarded. Things the Devs may have considered, but gave up along the way, that may get introduced in a sequel. I do like some of the ideas mentioned in this thread, and I would add a few thoughts.

  • As mentioned previously, the possibility to wash yourself and your clothes on a stream. Seems quite logical.

  • The campsite, also agree.

  • More realistic way to hold arrows. This one is a slight motive of concern to me? Now, I’m no expert but from what I’ve read “on the internets”, the way Henry holds the arrows, left of the bow, is the modern archery style. Historically, it seems the more common technique would have a right hand user to hold the arrow to the right side of the bow, as it would allow faster redraw. Also, for a precise historical representation, the bow quiver should be placed on the belt, and not on the back. Keep in mind that I could be wrong about all this. It’s just stuff I found online, but I would love to see Warhorse addressing this, with support of an expert.

  • One of the things I’ve wondered about is the absence of dangerous wild animals. I don’t know the region of Bohemia, but across Europe, I believe wolfs would be common, and could be a concern for a lone traveler. Especially if sleeping in the wild at night. Also, a wild boar, if hurt, can be a very dangerous animal. I believe these would be not only an interesting addition, game-play wise, but also provide extra realism.

Anyway, these are just a few thoughts. Happy travelings fellow knights…

It’s not both ways are historical (I hope you don’t have that information from Lars Andersen that guy is idiot and have no idea about history)

It should (no quiver at all was also quite common for European archers).
Warhorse already addressed it, they know that it’s not historical, but decided to have it on the back because there would be too much clipping otherwise (at least I think that was the reason, It was long time ago).

Thanks Zub, that was most helpful. I’m glad to know that both ways of holding the bow have historical background. I have seen them both represented in paintings and was somewhat confused by it. Thanks for the info!

I’m not arguing your point, but if they had no quiver, what did they use?
Surely one could not, carry around a bunch of loose arrows, especially into the field of battle.

I think the “left” hand or “right” hand use of a bow inconsequential in a game, since there is no actual discomfort holding a physical arrow one side or the other, like there might be holding a real bow.
We also have to consider, in a trained army of archers, uniformity would be needed so that archers would not get entangled with each others arrows and bows.

The same thing applies to sword fighting. Two opponents fighting, one left handed and the other right handed, would make for a very strange duel, especially if both were holding shields too.
Not sure which might have the advantage, but I suspect most of one’s training would prove useless, if two opponents were facing each other holding a sword in the opposite hand of the other.
Again, uniformity would be needed in training and application.

If they didn’t use a quiver, they would shove the arrows in their belt or stick them in the ground.

As to sword fighting, I can offer a bit of left-handed experience.
Most right-handed fighters spend the majority of their time fighting other right-handed opponents, so that is what they are used to. However, left-handed fighters also train against right-handed opponents the majority of the time. To them, it is far more common to be in that situation. Now, you get two left-handed individuals facing off against one another? Completely awkward combat.

XBox One:
Not sure why you think console users would not benefit from mods.
I know a few hundred mods are available for Skyrim.
I’ve loaded about 15 different ones, and kept at least 10 active.
I’m sure other games have mods available on consoles too.

As was said…

I also find the lack of dangerous animals in the woods a missed opportunity. Wolves and bears, wild/rapid dogs would be cool, as would a wounded animal (boars especially).

Dangerous animals were planned, there is wolf model:

I remember briefly seeing bear model in some old video update (I thing bear was even mentioned)
But they were scratched during development, probably because they would not fit in to the combat system.
I think they mentioned in some stream or something before release, that boars will be dangerous, but have never seen them attack in game

Boars do not attack you as well, but I saw video where they charged you. It looked really simplistic like in ArcaniA and it is understandable they scratched that too. Bears were indeed on their program, they had model but never saw them in the actual game or how they move, not even wolves were presented inside nature, only pictures. There was loads of stuff, like big battles, horseback battles, blacksmithing which did not work out.

Big battles was one of the main slogans/mentions of the game during first trailers/videos/development phase, but they didn’t rectify when they realised they were not working correctly (e.g. only played first one and it’s totally scripted, no AI formations or AI group combat…). I still really like the game and it’s the start of a new historical RPG genre (hopefully). I’m not gonna say it’s marketing scam, but the final game we got is not what was announced during all these years (followed all the development since 2010/2011, when there was a leaked video in Czech in Youtube) and feels incomplete (saying the least), not reaching expectations.

Obviously, Warhorse is not Hello Games, KCD is not No Man’s Sky by a inmensively huge massive distance. However, I was expecting that WH would work in polishing and getting the cut content, while fixing bugs, broken mechanics, horse battles, etc, (Vavra’s words) during the first months/year, and only then, from a solid base, start with the DLCs. But DLCs are so tasty for any kind of studio (small studios as well, apparently), they just couldn’t resist to mess the game even more… GOTY? If only they got all their shit together (expression, no offense)…
