Lances and horses

I was wondering they are going to be adding lances to the game and how will it work on horse back?

there’s been no mention of lances. i’m not too bothered to be honest. as iconic as it is, it’s somewhat of a knightly weapon, as in, someone like henry isn’t going to be going around from town to town with a lance strapped to his back. and in a battle, he’s not going to be riding with the nobles.

Hmm but they did mention you being part of some Calvary charges so wouldn’t a situation like that require some sort of pole arm like a lance or spear.

You will be able to use horses ingame. So there should be a possibility to use lances in combat.

The way I see it, things that were limited to a persons status still existed in the world and therefore could be stolen and used by someone not of that status.

So lances if used during this time and place would be around and its not like you would explode into a ball of flames for picking one up, however NPC’s would take notice of you having something that doesn’t belong to you and you would be persuade by the law/owner/self righteous do gooder (Henry isn’t the “Chosen One” so I hope to see heroics from the some NPC’s in certain set and setting).

Ah oh well i think they said spears will be in the game and that would be fun to use from horse back.

From the main page.

they don’t specifically categorize pole arms but the do show a pole axe in the image tied to the above caption.

Oh i thought i saw someone using a spear in mo cap gear but i must be wrong. That would be very strange if there wasn’t a spear in the game that was a pretty common weapon all over the world. Also since henry isn’t a chosen one wouldn’t a spear be a good pick for a poor blacksmith?
@TobiTobsen @WH_JiriRydl @Anna @Hellboy @MadSmejki sorry for asking all of you but i was wondering if you could confirm spears in the game.

I think I have seen it mentioned before can’t recall where though.

one of the points I forgot to express was the limitations of use based on weapon class. in the above caption they mention not being able to use a longsword on horseback.

Spears are in the game, yet were not pictured because of their size in relation to the other weapons. It’s not clear yet which spears of which length, but might be one or two.

I hope we can use spears and shields together not sure if anyone actually fought like that in the setting and time period of the game.

ahh then you could ram it into someone’s shield forcing them to ditch the shield , bring a tactical sense into the weapon .

Yeah spear shield combos were pretty effective. Many different cultures used them Vikings, greeks, American Indians, the list goes on and on. Like i said though im not sure if this combo was used in the games time period and setting.

Do you know about staves?

Not as of now. I only asked for spears once and I was told that this is planned.

Well if you have the opportunity to find out that would be sweetness.

I would really like to see Valaška in the game. Used for centuries in Moravia and probably wouldn’t be unknown in Bohemia too. I can’ wait for occasion worth of buying it to someone as a gift.

@WH_JiriRydl @warhorse It could serve the purpose of a weapon that could be casually carried in the game without raising NPC reactions (unlike walking with a two-handed sword around).

How can they tell its not his? They magically know if Henry killed a knight 1v1 and took his lance for example or his sword? How will the NPC know that OH WAIT I WASNT THERE BUT THIS WEAPON IS NOT YOURS. There will be tourneys in the game so maybe he can win a lance or a polearm or a long spear

To my understanding commoners weren’t allowed into tournaments so the availability of these weapons would be exclusive to the higher classes.

Im not saying you would suddenly have a mob chasing after you and any and all citizens would care; but some local authority may find it suspicious that your carrying a knights weapon without having that status.

Yup but Henry is not really a commoner, well at the start of the game at least he is, but as you probably saw in the stream, and the story, he is very brave and the nobles like him. Perhaps if he will show himself off by doing a certain mission from noble lord he will become an upper class citizen or something like that. Well see, cant wait for the game
