Large scale battles. 1 Life, or X lives?

I’m curious about one thing with the large scale battles. When you partake in a large scale battle, do you only get one life? When you die, do you revert to the last save? I think with how little one man had an effect on large scale battles in the time period, you should either get to take the place of another soldier, or re spawn as your character. It would be nice, that way you don’t have to play so cautious so that you don’t die and the battle is over for you.

LOL, yeah, to hell with realism. Let’s respawn after 5 seconds…

Joking aside, you will only have one life. You die, you lose. Game over.

You just have to be smart about fighting so you don’t die I assume, which is really hard in these large scale battles, but can we really allow ourselves to break the consistency of the game?

Since you’re playing a certain character, it wouldn’t make sense to switch positions or get respawned like in MP games. So I guess you will restart from the last cutscene or savegame or whatever seems right in the eyes of the behol… ehh the developers.

Its definitely going to be one guy, Im not sure how they are going to make large scale battles (you are right that one guy cant do very much), but Im looking forward to finding out.

Being a truly single-player story, I would be very surprised if there wasn’t a checkpoint of some kind or the ability to replay the battle. Or, perhaps, you can only be injured up to a point before you’re out of the fight (or even captured and ransomed?).

I wouldn’t bet on hopping into someone else at all, and I doubt you’ll die and it ends up permanent. I don’t think you’ll see respawning either in the midst of an ongoing battle.

I would imagine that fights are isolated like in Assassin’s Creed rather than just fighting in an undiscernible crowd like Skyrim. With a slower combat system (and no magic) large, anarchic fights would be impossible and death would be almost instantaneous since you can’t see behind you and turn relatively slowly.

I forgot to mention, i’m not saying i agree with everything i stated, i was just throwing around some options that COULD be done.

I hope we can either respawn or revert to an earlier save point.

I bet that it will be a touchy subject on how they treat death. What is the perfect balance of being too strict or too lenient. Perhaps we will know. Or perhaps…

i’d rather have the option to revert back to a save i don’t want to re-spawn back, that way when i fight i would think about it and not jump in like a maniac knowing i’m going to spawn back.

I don’t think there’s really going to be a question that there will be a save/checkpoint system you go back to upon death.

I would be more worried about the possible lag fest that my computer might be experiencing with so many guys on-screen.

But seriously though, are the NPCs going to go one-on-one at each other in a predictable manner? Or is it going to be similar to mount and blade’s charge and swing fest. I can’t imagine a rather complicated combat system such as KCD to be able to have the player parry and strike at more than one enemy at a time in a formation battle.

All you have to hope is that you arn’t in the first line

Definately one life, but would you have to load a save or would you wake up hurt afterwards?

I’m hoping that it will be kinda like a battle from Braveheart. You’re in the field fighting, but its mostly 1v1 until you kill the opponent and then you switch targets. You can see a bit in the trailer him fighting 2v1 and the NPC kinda wait until the 1v1 is over. It would be boring if 3 guys just rushed you, you would just die and have to revert…

Perhaps the AI may end up good enough that people on your side move in (if they’re near and able) to help even the odds if you get outnumbered.

That would be nice, but it’s hard to develop AI that are that smart. Especially with this advanced combat system, the AI will have too know not to use a slash and hurt you or any allies near him. That brings me to another point, can we block our allies swords? In the midst of combat, sometimes you might get to close and an ally sword could end up swinging towards your face. It would be nice to have the option to block said sword, enemy or not.

Maybe it could end up having people paired off with opponents, though in close quarters. Might be you’ll even see some people fighting back-to-back against others?

I hope that it is one life. While yes you are only one man, you are also fighting with other NPCs and together you can storm a castle. It’s unrealistic in game where you are the only one making a difference. Many a time, I’ve thought, yeah one guy just killed 50 dudes. I hope it’s not like that.
