I honestly can’t get over the level of realism in the game,
It’d be so very easy to miss things like:
-
When it rains in game, you see ripples on the water in rivers and in puddles.
-
When it rains you see it hitting the roads and paths in some places.
-
When you’re in the woods, when the time of day shifts, the sounds die down, when dusk comes, the birds quieten down for example.
-
When running with a torch, you can hear the flames being disturbed.
-
The trees, flowers, grass, bushes, all move - independently from each other. They don’t all just sway in one direction.
-
When lockpicking, you can see Henry’s hands moving behind the “mini game”.
-
When Henry has been in a fight, he actually looks wounded.
-
Depending where you are, the sounds change. For example, when you’re in the Monastery gardens, you can hear the sounds of wood pigeons (one of my fave sounds).
-
NPCs have a morning routine, they get up and go for a wash and have breakfast.
-
NPCs doing mundane things like going to fetch water at wells, and actually turning the well handle to draw the water up, the bucket rushing and then them emptying that bucket into their own bucket. It’s a small thing but it impressed me.
-
If you break into the monastery, at certain times of the day, the monks gather, walking one by one into the chapel hall, and then they sing. It’s quite lovely.
-
When walking in certain types of light, Henry casts some great shadows, making you feel like you’re playing more than just a pair of disembodied hands
Are there any small details that stick out in anyone else’s minds? I love hearing/reading about things like this because it really opens your eyes to how much work and thought are put into these games,.
I have to commend Warhorse for thinking of so many small things and adding to the realism of the game. Attention to detail is top notch and shows they really care about the atmosphere in the game.
