That’s an interesting observation. I hadn’t given it any thought but I could be sold on a first person camera during cutscenes too…
I don’t feel it breaks the immersion. I think these cutscene cameras are important to the narrative, because they can focus on the gestures and facial expressions and other things you wouldn’t see that clearly. So they shouldn’t change that.
The cutscenes are fine for me. It’s also basically the only chance we’ll see the character we help customize. Otherwise, there’s little reason to do anything with that. It even felt pretty pointless in Fallout 3 and NV to bother doing much with creating a custom face, because you hardly saw it except for shooting with VATS.
Same here. Even in a first-person game, I like to be able to see my character now and again.
I still don’t see how this game will handle multiples ennemies…it looks so locked. Except for that and for a Pre-Alpha it looks fantastic! Can’t wait to play
For a pre alpha it’s gorgeous, but I’m the only one that noticed the girl that save you, at the very beginning continue to sweep the same spot over and over?
I noticed that too but you have to figure this was for presentation build. There’s two years to bring the NPCs to life.
On a related note, I remember when he walks into the tent city within the castle walls and notes that this is where your former neighbors live now. In the actual game I imagine that scene with NPCs milling about interacting instead of two camp grounds.
that’s a scripted event for presentation. in the test alpha they already have ai. so she won’t be sweeping there forever. she’ll probably stop and do some other activity.
Ok, it took me some time but here’s what I think:
Since this build was only made to show the publishers what Warhorse are capable of and how the game mechanics work etc., I think, it was done to make the impact more visible. Like in your face visible. They want to see something happen on screen. Just my guess.
This build was made solely for the purpose of showing the publishers things they implemented thus far. I think it’s save to say, the guy controlling the character at a demo presentation knew exactly what he had to do. Whereas you as a clueless player would need them, obviously, or maybe not, you could also use the map to navigate. Anyway, such things will be implemented by the time the game will be released.
What did I like?
Map
- The design of the map is beautiful, nice style.
Will we have the map right from the start? Do we need to purchase it? Do we have only one piece in the beginning and need to complete it piece by piece, gathered through various quests?
Size & look of the world
-
When he was riding that long ride to the stables with the slaughtered horses, the world didn’t look that small as people were complaining it would be. The size seems to be reasonable. They can put in enough places to discover and explore, so the player won’t lose interest so quickly.
-
The look of the landscape and buildings feels very natural and all in all it came across well-proportioned.
Death Animation
- I did like how the guy keeled over when he was killed by the arrow to the throat.
What did I not like?
- Clothes glued to the ass! I thought such occurrences were a thing of the past. I seriously hope they get this fixed. The shirt should be separate and not moving together with ass and legs when only ass or legs are moving. If you know what I mean.
The guy with the white shirt.
Where can I go?
I like to go everywhere, open every door and look what’s behind it, how is the view from the top of the tower etc.
For example, can I go there?
No restrictions? Are these doors open? Do I need a key? Do I need to get permission from my liege?
Glitches & other things
I know, it’s Pre-Alpha and I think, they’re probably already aware of them but anyway here are some pictures:
1 = transparent inside of clothes
2 = ugly beard/facial hear (was addressed in the video but I took some of these pictures before and didn’t want to redo it all)
Alpha
In the 2nd part of the video where they showed what the Alpha is going to be,
I couldn’t hear any footsteps. Hopefully there will be footsteps in the Alpha.
The first part of the video had footsteps but they were only light footsteps.
I hope, in the final game, there will be massive footstep sounds
like in Dark Messiah.
why would they be massive? you’re not bigfoot.
Ok, maybe massive isn’t the right word, is ‘powerful’ better? (I’m not a native speaker)
Bigfoot? I’m also not a ballerina who’s nearly inaudible. I’m wearing heavy equipment.
I want to feel that I’m heavy, most games don’t convey that properly or neglect it altogether. The volume ratio between ambient and footstep sounds is often not realistic, this means the footsteps are too quiet.
In my experience, a powerful footstep sound and of course other things that go together with it improve immersion vastly. It’s almost as if I can feel the steps myself because of the acoustic feedback of my movement. It adds to the feeling of being really there.
I loved that character (we’re talking about the lord/knight in black and yellow, right?). Part of me is hoping they keep his voice and dialogue intact because he was so freaking awesome.
It also depends on the footwear. Btw, the armor has sound in the stream?
