I’ve spent 3 days (real time) on one lock trying to steal guard armor to escape the first city. I’ve been working on trying to pick this “very easy” lock, with no success. Then this happened: the interface to pick the chest (or any locked thing anywhere) is completely gone. I’ve tried restarting the system, even started a new game, but there’s no lockpick interface anymore. Can anyone help?

For my 2c, I have tried lockpicking PS4 many times, and tried to be persistant with it until I learn it. I haven’t ever succeeded in opening even one “very easy” lock.
I love realism, and I like hard difficultly, and I know it’s a game that you’re supposed to practise and learn, and yes, maybe I’m just not a very skilled “gamer”, but I’d honestly be surprised if the developers actually intended it be this difficult.
Try putting your controller down.
On a table or book.
And use your both hands to move the sticks.

Had almost given up. ( I was only just nearing level 3) had broken nearly 40-50 lockpicks. Then got my first perk. Thougher lockpicks. Have not broken one now on easy or very easy or even failed one in a long time. Now I see the point people making about it becomes too easy ha.
Still not high enough for hard ones. So any locks that I do come across, when the coast is clear I open them. Don’t even take the stuff most times.
You can boost your skill with padfoot potion.
