Lock picking with Controller after Patch 1.3

I tried locpicking with the PS4 Controller before Patch 1.3 (1.5 PS4 Version) and it was the most frustrating Minigame i have ever played.

I really hoped, that it will be better with the new Patch 1.3

But i have to say, it really doesn’t solve the Problem!
Okay, the new interface is really nice, but my problem wasn’t the Interface or the difficult Level of very easy or easy locks.
My problem was not to find and hold the Sweet Spot.

My problem was to rotate the lock with the left analog stick by 360° while holding the Sweet Spot with the right Stick.

As far as i know its much easier on PC! You just have to focus the Sweet Spot with the Mouse while u have to press just one Key to rotate the lock. That really sounds like a piece of cake compared to the Controller methode!

I ask me, why has Warhorse not changed the Controller settings in that mini game a bit to make lockpicking more similar to the PC Version and make it much easier this way?

For example holding the sweet spot with the right Analog Stick, while pusching the left stick button (wich u use for sneaking in open world) down to ratete the lock? Thist would make Lockpicking much easier and much less frustrating in my opinion.

There are truly some People out there who are physically challenged because of a handicap, and I am one of them myself. I can’t use my left hand as fluently as my right hand and that is the reason why i have a problem with the 360° rotation with the left stick. But that’s just for the smart People out there who Said Things like:

“You spent hours training at lockpicking and your only at level 2? Either you need a new controller or your mentally or physically challenged in some way. And i dont mean that in a bad way, but if lockpicking as it stands is causing you so much grief, best just to play some other game. Not much more WH can do.”

“Stop complaining, I made Lockpicking Lv 20 before the 1.3, It is really not that hard? Do you also complain to your boss if he ask you do things…My god, What is wrong with the people these days.”

This kind of Posts are almost as helpful as one of my favorite quotes:

“If you have trouble with that, maybe this game is not for you?”

A complete game which I enjoy so far and which I can play just fine is nothing for me just because of a mini game what could be made easier by the developer? That’s totally frustrating.

First I was afraid, that I am the only person who has trouble with this mini game because of my handicap, but I was relieved, that there are more people out there who have problems with this part of the game as well.

You are right there its way easier with keyboard and mouse.
I play on PC and find it easier to use a controller for fighting but when picking locks I go back to the mouse and keyboard.
After you get some levels in lock picking its easy even with a controller but getting those levels is painful.

It took me a while to perfect it but now it’s easy as hell. I was hoping they wouldn’t change it.

What your tip metalmaster624? I’m a XB1 user and still find it hard on easy locks with controller. Although I did finally unlock one…success rate around 1% though.

I don’t get it. I once upon a time thought lockpicking was impossible but then I had some patience and practiced and before I knew it I could unlock even very hard locks with a quick turn of the analog sticks. The new interface is lame and I don’t see how it really helped anything. It was fine to begin with. The first 3 levels of lockocking are hard but you can literally train to level 3 on the chest at miller pesheks then at lvl 6 take luck of the drunk perk and you will never struggle to open another lock.

Just practice and try to maybe go faster with it. I noticed the times I did it slower, it was much more difficult.

Personally I find lockpicking on consoles (at least Xbox One) easy after practicing with it. I hope they don’t make it easier. As for advice on how to do it, the easiest way I have found is find the sweet spot with your right joystick, then put the left joystick all the way to the left…otherwise it seems to jump around more for me…then while turning the left joystick to rotate the lock counterclockwise turn the right one at the same time. The key that has helped me the most I think is always finding the sweet spot first before I touch my other joystick and always starting the left joystick to turn the lock at the same spot, just far left. I also think the faster you do it the less it wobbles or shakes but I’m not positive.

How do people still find this hard? I have lockpicking 10 and can easily do hard locks so what is your level? If its still 1 or 2 go practice some more on very easy locks… even if you fail you get xp towards leveling it so just buy plenty of picks and go to train some.

It’s the same for me. The new patch didn’t really made lockpicking easier for me. Well at least I managed to unlock one, before the patch I couldn’t unlock even one, although I spent hours training with Peshek. So I think it became a bit easier. And since lockpicks are so damn rare I guess I won’t be able to get lockpicking to level 3 any time soon. I would really like to finish “The Good Thief” quest so that I can sell stuff to the millers, but as it is now, I have no chance.

Well I’m level 2 by now, because I trained with the chest at the mill, but I’m out of lockpicks and they are just too rare. After 50 hours I found like 3 of them during my travels and nobody sells it besides Votava who sells like 3-4? I’m not sure. Do you guys have an idea how to get lockpicks fast?

I can’t hear this lockpicking problem no more, while there are more important things need to be fixed! I am playing on PS4 yeah it’s not easy at the beginning but the more you lockpick the easier it gets specially when you then unlock the perks too… just lock pick everything easy you find as you can and you will see it won’t be a problem after a while! Can we now focus and complain about the serious quest bugs please?!

Yea I just checked to see how many lock picks I have, I only have one, I just never break it and I play on ps4. Only lock I haven’t tried yet is very hard

Thanks for the insult. Of course I reloaded several times during those hours because lockpicks run out pretty fast, so yes you lose the progress when you reload and that’s why I’m only at level 2. And if lockpicks wouldn’t be so damn rare I could train even more. Anyways I never had any problems with lockpicking in any other game so yeah…

Even if you reloaded after breaking it, your brain should be still learning and getting better with each attempt. The system works.
Try doing some of bernards bandit quests and loot every corpse to get lockpicks.

Only because you got the hang of it, it doesn’t give you the right to insult others. Not everyone is good at it. There are several people who didn’t manage to unlock it even once, and they are not mentally or physically challenged so watch your mouth please.
I did all of the bernard bandit quests and like I said I found 3 lockpicks until now…

If you have the learning capacity of an amoeba then there is nothing anyone can do im afraid.
