this is what has kept me playing all day, the fact that its not holding my hand and that it is challenging doing stuff unlike most rpgs. it took me over an hour to do the quest where you have to go back to skellitz cos id screw up getting what i needed, but i stuck at it and im happy i did. just wish i was better at lockpicking since the treasure stuff is in locked bloody chests haha
You could try sneaking behind the chest owner and knocking them out so that you can loot the key to the chest and open it.
do the dlc treasure crates have keys, first one ive found had bandits around but none seem to have a key for it.
I agree, lockpicking is pretty much impossible
@Tsunamik is right, M&K get’s pretty easy fairly quickly the more you do it, and the better your skill level.
But dam if it isn’t impossible with controller. I’m using PS4 controller on PC, and just revert to M&K for lockpicking. All goooooood
I also think lockpicking is broken. The system may seem intriguing, fun, well thought and everyrhing, but only a small detail makes it useless and frustrating.
As far as I can tell, since I am no master at all in lockpicking in real life lockpicking should be a work of patience and still hands. Translated in current in game mechanics, once you find the sweet spot, you should just follow it as you rotate the lock. But the why in the earth I am punished if I spend too mich time just staying in the gold spot? Basically the game is asking me to do a precision work, and to do it fast. And everybody know that doing a precision task fast is an incredibly hard thing. Add in that you already have troubles with “easy” locks… And here you have your broken feature. If only one could really take it slowly it would be a giant leap forward.
Do you have a yellow ball at your cursor indicating the right location for your lockpick? If not, it’s the same bug as I have. Sent a bug report already.
Me too I thought it in the beginning but after a little training, I unlock most locks first try within seconds. Really you just have to get a feeling for it, trust me. But it took me also some time
Honestly do not see why they just cant use the same method as Risen2 & 3, Sleeping dogs or Fallout 3 or 4 mechanicks for this. It’s terrible, what’s more the lock picks get too damn expensive to break willy nilly.
I did manage to open the very easy chest to get out of the castle in prologue but i won’t come anywhere near lockpicking again. Tools cost a shitton, brake after every try on gamepad and actually force me to switch to mouse (playing on PC). It should be way easier on gamepads at least for not EASY locks.
Agree is way too difficult on console…
What makes it suck more is the fact that lockpivks r so expensive… Doesn’t make sense.
I agree its too difficult on console
Broken mechanic. It’s preventing me from completing miller’s quest until it’s fixed. I’m on PC too, so you’re not alone… it’s ALL of us. There’s also a bug where the invert y-axis for controller does nothing, but selecting invert mouse does invert the controller’s y-axis. I went through hell getting the controller to work at all when I started… the X button unsheathed weapon instead of jump/climb, and the D-pad was completely corrupted… I had to temporarily plug in a USB 360 controller to get the x1 wireless to work. After this the game has run flawlessly on high settings, and smooth as silk with no drops in FPS and no stutters whatsoever. If they’d just fix the lockpicking I’d be golden.
I agree. These are ridiculously overpriced bobby pins LOL. Over $100? Insane.
For the miller quest, I snuck behind the executioner and knocked him out and took his keys.
It took me 8 attempts to pick my first “very easy” lock.
About another 5 or 6 tries on my first “easy” lock.
I had to sell my food to buy more picks.
My first hard lock was very very tough but I got it in the end.
I pretty much have it down now but still break picks every now and then.
I am fine with this, I feel like I’m earning my Rogue skills properly and I feel very satisfied when I pop a lock.
Playing on PS4 with a gamepad and yes it was pretty hard to get good at it and took a lot of patience and practice… I think that’s the point. Practice. This isn’t Skyrim.
I personally do not want to see it watered down, I put time and effort into getting that skill and the rewards I get for it are deserved.
lockpicking is hard as hell, easy to broke, price is high as Gucci’s belt. It’s impossible with controller, even with the very easy one.
It’s clearly not “impossible” as I have successfully picked many locks on ps4. It’s hard, not impossible.
I really must say, it isn’t impossible. It was hard for me at first but the more I practiced, the better I got. I have no issue picking locks up to hard at this point. I haven’t tried very hard locks yet but even if I fail I will just keep at it and with time it wont be an issue. So many people want everything to be easy. This game is great. It actually makes you train in order to “Git Gud”. For those of you that think this is too hard, or impossible, I say keep trying. If that is too much for you maybe try playing skyrim…
