Lockpicking ruins this game on console

So far I’ve had to abandon lockpicking totally. The first lockpick I was trying to do was in Talmberg. Had no experience before that and it fails every time.

First I was trying an easy one. Then a very easy one. But even when doing it slowly the globe thing purposely doesnt consistantly keep engaged. Litterally the sweet spot moves even when im not moving the lock. This happens half way through the mini-game. I know because I stop while I try and find it again by moving the globe around but it lights up for a second, then off, then on, then off, then lockpick broke.

I’ve played games since the 1980s but never seen a mini-game that is so essential to the game be so hard.

I don’t think this was designed for consoles.

They already told it will be patched in one or the other way, just stay sharp

Bowden…just keep trying the Very Easy locks…even if they break, you still gain experience in in lockpicking. Once you get to about level 3 you can take a perk that makes lockpicks last twice as long before breaking…and it just gets easier each time it levels up.

I’m playing on PS4 and I am opening Easy locks with great ease…check this video of me doing it…go to 1:47 of the video.

I was having the exact same trouble as you when I first started lockpicking…but a few level ups later…its become extremely easy.

I’m also able to get the “very easy” an “easy” open. You just need a bit flair for lockpicking

Keep at it, it get’s easier as you progress. You were not born master lockpicker you know

Thanks for the replies guys.

I’m now trying the very easy ones but they still break.

My sessions consist of loading up the game to play the mini lockpick game :frowning:

I know its supposed to be difficult at the start but damn.

They should move the left stick (turning the lock) to a button and then at least it would be equal to the pc version.

I’ll keep trying a few more times and if I can’t do it I’ll have to wait for the patch.

It can be done, just takes patience and practice.

People need to stop thinking they should be able to accomplish every task the first time they attempt it.

I don’t seem to have a problem with it… I can lockpick very hard with ease, you just need to get the hang of it. Even if you are bad at it they are fixing it in patch 1.3

Have you got to Rattay Mill yet? Once you get there and do a few quests for Miller Peshek …you will be able to purchase lockpicks and sell stolen goods.

Rattay Mill is a good place to constantly save your game, steal, make money, buy lockpicks and practice lockpicking. A lot of Locks you successfully pick will reset a day or so later, so you are never short of places to practice and gradually advance your skill.

Miller Peshek can also advance you 1 skill in lockpicking (for a small price) once every 5 lockpicking level ups. For example if you are level 1 in lockpicking…he can train you once to advance it to level 2. Once you hit level 5 in lockpicking…he can train you once again…when you hit level 10…he can train you 1 time again etc etc.

So in short. Steal loads of stuff, sell it off to fences and purchase a good 40 or so lockpicks…then start hammering away at trying to open Easy locks in the Rattay Mill area (remember to choke out any near by people without being seen, so the sound of your broken lockpicks will not alert anyone).

Eventually you will be opening locks with such ease you will look back on this and say that a patch is not even needed!!!

Yea, I got the sense the Miller was a nefarious sort and decided to have nothing to do with him. I paid my debt and left him in the wind with his underhanded agendas.

I’m playing a good guy first run through, i’m sure we’ll be the best of buds on my second playthrough =)

Thank you for helping but my experience in the game isn’t good.

I just reached Rattay Mill, went to look for the ring on that guys body… came back to talk to Miller, I saw the option to ask him to learn me to pick locks. Of course I failed to pick it (but thought from what people say my lockpicking exp will go up even if I fail)… so went to talk to him again and now the talk button is shaded out… smh

Lock picking shouldnt be this hard.

I’m giving up on the game until that patch comes out. Even dark souls wasnt this punishing.

I think the bit that throws me is the globe moving around on its own.

Effectively 3 things are going on when trying to pick a lock on console (only 2 on PC). Moving the lock with the left stick, moving the globe with the right stick, and then countering its jumpy animations too.

I’ve always preferred using a controller compared to a keyboard, and I’ve been playing the game a bit via Steam on the laptop while I wait for my physical stuff to ship (delayed because of an address issue).

While I’m certain the low skill at this point is part of it, I did find it very difficult to do anything with a controller when it comes to lockpicking, but it’s much, much easier to keep the cursor in the right spot while turning the lock through mouse and keyboard. Even with skill levels going up making the activity easier, it still feels like something where the thumbsticks are going to be at a disadvantage unless the developers loosen things up a bit.

I play on Xbox. It does work , i can unlock hard locks fairly consistently. In the beginning only unlock “very easy” locks. Also don’t go too slow, while you are pushing, you are “killing” your pick. But besides that i found that the quicker i go the less likely i am to mess up. Get your sweet spot and rotate both sticks in relative unison.

I actually like the system and think it is very unique and thats why its so hard. Its not like a skyrim lock that a 8 year old can do with their eyes closed.

I think the hard part is keeping the right stick/globe in position. I’m rotating fairly evenly with the left stick and graphically the globe is where it should be, but it breaks. It’s strange.

I’m on PS4 Pro, I might turn off boost mode to see if that does anything.

yea, but this isn’t Kingdom Come - Lockpick - Deliverance.

Even when the oblivion and other lock systems firsr came out i broke a lot if picks. So it just takes getting used to

Just practice it is really pretty easy actually its just not McDonalds employee easy.

Its a learning curve. Believe me i got mad, and had to hang it up for awhile. Don’t get hung up on it. Kinda have to look at training lock pick skill as an investment. You’re gonna lose money on picks at first, then later on you’ll have lots of money and too many lock picks

I’ll probably have another go.

Am I right in thinking that after breaking those first lockpicks Miller should have been selectable to give me more?
