Lockpicking ruins this game on console

PS4 lockpicking is not hard. It is just badly designed.

I would not complain if something is hard. But I need to know, what I did wrong. And everytime I break lockpick, I literally don’t know why.

My (PS4) controller just vibrates all the time, no mater what. Is it a warning that I’m doing something wrong ? Looks like not, because it vibrates even when I successfuly open that lock. So how on earth I should learn it, when I really have no feedback from that game what I’m doing wrong ? Sorry, but this is just a very bad design.

When I first started the lockpicking minigame, it was god AWFUL; I couldn’t do it, eventually (Xbox One) I would be thrown from the minigame into a wall and the Miller wouldn’t talk anymore. So I’d have to load up an earlier save. Now though after some practice, it’s actually really easy, I like it. The game doesn’t hold your hand and I love it, it’s unforgiving but rewarding.

The lock pick will only break if you try to rotate the lock while the circle is not gold. If your gold marker comes out of position just stop forcing it until you can find the sweet spot again.

It gets easiee because your perks you choose can increase pick health etc.

But the biggest reason it gets easier is personal skill. Once you know it can be done and see how its done you’ll get better. As the tumbler moves the sweet spot moves in relative direction. So if the sweet spot is at the very top of the circle, it will be on the same spot as you turn it.

Its more difficult depending on the location of the sweet spot. Because its harder to keeo track of the swwet spot location the farther away it is from the 12 oclock position.

The easiest “in my opinion” would be at the top of the inner circle

Dont waste your time on “easy” locks. There is a “very easy” lock on the lock near the practice chest… A door.
Also if you save and reload it changes swwet spot location. I don’t do this, but figured it might help you get a few unlocked so you can learn hows its done. The closer the sweet spot is to the center, tge easier it is

I’m loving lock pick controls on console. I can finally do hard locks at like pick level 7.

I actually think the skill progression on lock picking is perfect. I wouldn’t change a thing.

You don’t even have to reload to change the sweet spot, just press circle to cancel the lock picking, then press x to lock pick again, and it moves every time. Keep repeating that until its in the position you like

There ya go @Bowdon , just exit the lock pick screen and try again to change sweet spot

You may have tried this already, but something that helped me alot is to put the controller down on my lap and hold the thumbsticks between my thumb and index finger(like if im actually lockpicking) went from breaking every lockpick in my inventory to now not having to buy new lockpicks for 2(real) days  the thing that bothers me somewhat is that i cant even try to get the hard/very hard locks open until i level up more, i think we should have option to try atleast, not just haveing it brak by defult because the game says so. hope you get the hang of it, would be a shame if you had to stop playing just to wait for the patch

Ok, I managed to do the lockpicking!

The bit that was throwing me off was when the globe goes off target, the lock (that we’re moving on the left stick) stops. So I was carrying on moving the left stick even when the lock stopped and found it difficult to get my left stick back in place. So the more i concentrated on that the better.

I still say that this is needlessly difficult. The left stick should have been mapped to a button, like the PC version is.

Anyways, thanks for the help guys  I did manage to get the ring from the executioner and just figured out pickpocketing. So least i can continue the game!

I’m on xbox and I’m doing just fine. I can pick basically any lock by now as I have reached level 17, and can pick very hard, unless there are more to it than that idk. I feel the entire lockpicking is cool you just need to keep trying. I don’t see how it’s a pain in the ass.
EDIT: Do you get your lockpicks from the miller in rattay?

I choked the executtioner out when i failed to pick the lock and took his key lol

That’s great news that you gave it another go and succeeded! Trust me I got just as frustrated as you and stopped playing for a while, but so glad I did carry it on like you did  keep doing that chest at the mill to get to level 3 and lock picking becomes a cinch

Hang in there, had a character that as that way, but trained lockpick with the Miller and all fell into place. You have to think out of the box to get better in this game! One thing I like about it!,

I considered attacking the miller at the training lock box thing lol. Frustration does strange things!

You are so correct right there! I have one character that LP works fine, but another char sucks at it. I think it has to do with several skills my char doesn’t have; stealth and agility are low.

At the beginning when you first get to practice with Miller, dont even bother or worry if you cant do it and break all the lock picks.

You still get the XP (same for any other lock you try and pick) for trying and which goes towards levelling up.

Remember, when you select a " Will you teach me XYZ" option, youre simply unlocking the ability itself. You then need to “practice” (eg, gain XP) to get both yourself and henry better at it.

This is no different to any skill and the learning process in real life. 9/10 youre not going to be good at somethinh you just found out about.

This is an extremly logical game in terms of the systems, learning them and the many ways they can be used.

Lock picking nor any other skill is broken, theyre hard because you really are doing them for the first time.

Sensitivty is OP, its that you and henry are both learning to do someth8ng new.

I appreciate your reply.

On PC the player only needs to control one thing. On a console you have to control 2 things at once. This means its twice as difficult for console players.

I did manage to unlock some locks. But it is way more difficult on console compared to PC.

The experience for both PC and console should be the same. Even the game creators agree with this as they are patching it on console.

I’m on XB1X and there is no issues with lockpicking at all. I am shocked that people are finding it so difficult.

Find the sweet spot with the right stick… rotate the left and right sticks together, simple.
