Lockpicking ruins this game on console

Absolutely agree with the console controls. PC controls are great, and you end up with a real sense of accomplishment, but console controls are a mess.

My only real complaint is the artificial barrier stopping you from picking “very hard” locks. If anything they should be so hard they are a struggle with all the perks and take a try or two until you get the skill down, and it should only be theoretically possible to pick them earlier. That would really help with the sense of personal mastery, going from burning ten lockpicks in an abandoned building to open a very hard to opening one absolutely quietly right next to a sleeping nobles bed. Excellent.

Why don’t u try instead of giving up. I didn’t give up though at first I was also bitching at how hard the lock picking was. Low and behold I got better and absolutely love this game and feel no changes need made except a few minor bugs.

I keep reading where people say the practice chest relocks, but that has not been my experience. I unlocked it once during the Miller tutorial, and I can go back to the mill days later and it’s still unlocked.

Dude I felt just like you did trust me. Keep doing it! It gets easier. If you have done patience and keep at it you will be spinning that lock like it’s nothing.

I Dont see why ppl are having trouble. I open locks with ease on xbox.

Me too. I think they just don’t have the patience bc I too thought it was impossible but then I actually tried it and worked on it and like magic it gets easier. Whatever though no different than those who say this game is to hard. I honestly feel it needs major rebalancing bc it’s to easy by early mid game and on.

precisely.

I Wouldnt say so, i buyed KCD a weekend ago and i needed 3 days to get my Fingers skilled for lockpicking and i enjoyed that it isnt that easy! KCD is a game where you cant rush through and that is nice. You need skill for combat, lockpicking and few other Things but thats okay. For real right after the Start it’s a bit sad and you get frustrated by playing the lockpick game but if you train it you will Do it. I open now locks from easy to hard just by train it… And i think every one can learning it. I Look with a sad eye to the lockpick Patch  that will kill some unique Part of KCD

I had a terrible time lockpicking on xbox. Here are some tips I found that have helped me:

  1. whatever side the sweeet-spot is on, turn the lock from the opposing side. this makes it much easier to turn and keep the sweet spot by using opposing turning instead of trying to turn the same way.

  2. you can reuse the practice (relocking) chest from the miller. I suggest sleep-saving before learning on the chest so if you bust all your lockpicks while practicing you can reload

  3. complete the miller questline up into meeting the next miller and giving him the ring so you can buy lots of lockpicks from all the millers. that way you won’t care if you break a bunch on the practice chest

  4. in the miller pechek area there are some easier chests and doors around the area (very easy) that you can also try out. i didn’t seem to get into any trouble doing it in the middle of the day. there are 2-3 chests and 1-2 doors

TLDR: give the ring to the next miller so you can buy lots of lockpicks, then practice on the re-locking chest at miller pesheks without issue. use opposing thumb turning on the analog sticks

I agree! I have been trying for like 12 hours and still cant pick one Fing lock. when i try to get my lock picking skill up i cant because i don’t have enough lock picks and vendors don’t sell them. the vendors that do, i cant use because i didn’t finish the lock picking quest. None of this was thought through. This game is over for me. Maybe they will fix this in a year or two.

I think I’ve said this in this particular thread before, but this game is a sandbox and there are multiple ways to accomplish the goal of unlocking the exectioners chest. What i did, when i was trying to pick his chest, i broke the pick and waited for him to come inside. When he came in, i was hiding, he sit down to eat and i stealthed up and knocked him out. Looted his keys and took the ring. I believe you can convince him too.

you can sneak in to the executioners house and knock him out without picking any locks. take his key and open the trunk and get the ring.

im glad you people have found a way around quests. but i need to lock pick for a few different quest and the DLC armor is still in locked chests that i cant work around. Lock picking is crazy hard and this will be a game that i will have to say i cant beat.

Yeah, I’ve been using the mouse and keyboard to lockpick on PC, but I also have the PS4 version now (it was apparently sitting in my PO Box for quite a while and I had no idea). I can confirm I’m going to need to wait for the adjustment to console lockpicking because no matter how carefully I try to move the thumbsticks, I just can’t get it to work even on the Miller’s box. No matter how close I get, no matter how fast or slow I go, it just fails over and over so it’s hard to even really advance the skill right now.

Ill post a video, but without seeing my hands it will not be very helpful

same problem here! I cant get the freaking DLC items cuz the are in dammed chests!! lol UGHHHH

Well Said[quote=“Fifavenue, post:13, topic:45010, full:true”]
I play on Xbox. It does work , i can unlock hard locks fairly consistently. In the beginning only unlock “very easy” locks. Also don’t go too slow, while you are pushing, you are “killing” your pick. But besides that i found that the quicker i go the less likely i am to mess up. Get your sweet spot and rotate both sticks in relative unison.

Well Said, also play on xbox and wanted to throw my controller out the window the first few hours. now that i have hit level 14 i hardly break a lock pick except on very hard locks. Its kind of like the combat, just takes a little practice and then its almost an afterthought. Looking back on it its nice not to have everything so easily achieved.

Lockpicking was definitely awful, but once you get used to it, it’s a breeze, of course I haven’t found anything above easy locks yet so my opinion may be a bit biased, but I imagine I’ll do list fine on the really hard locks too

Once your in game skill is high enough that you dont get the "lock too difficult " message its pretty easy. Oddly i found that some “very hard” locks are harder than others
