For real: how did people in 1403 Bohemia whip their asses?

I once tried to find something about the topic, and almost without success. But in the end I know something

  • It was discovered the some french king used sheep wool. But he was king; wool used to be quite expensive. Wool was also known to be used by women in historical variants of contemporary menstrual pads. It might be also used for small children.
  • In some remnants of latrinas (maybe viking? don’t remember it well), a use of some mosses or lichen was found.
  • But most common material was probably straw.

Didn’t the Romans used a wet brush or a sponge on a stick?
Maybe a disgusting buket with a even more disgusting brush or sponge would have done the job in most homes.
