So I know the catch phrase is “dungeons & no dragons”. But will there be any monsters or “un-natural elements” in the game? Or is this game made from a strictly historical persepective? I don’t mind, just curious.
That’s a good question, I wouldn’t mind either if it has a few un-natural creatures or not, but I would love to know.
Every single piece of news so far has clearly stated that there will be absolutely no supernatural elements in the game.
I wouldn’t have thought so. If you look at their goals in the Kickstarter it’s clear they don’t want to make just another fantasy RPG.
I’m sure there will be mods made for monsters and dragons after the game’s release.
Well, I dont think so. It should be 100% without any magician elements etc.
To be perfectly honest, every other game out there has already done fantasy and supernatural clichès to the N’th degree. And when something that is supposed to be “special” is done so often that it’s no longer “special”, you have a problem. The “supernatural” such as vampires, werewolves, zombies, Tolkien-fantasy (Warcrap, Warhammer etc) is done so often now, that they suffer from inflation… So they get devalued. If this game decides NOT to do it, it will be a breath of fresh air, and will make me very happy. So far, everything suggests this is a realistic game universe. Thankfully!
I’d prefer this to be as unremarkable as it can be in terms of things out of the ordinary. I want to see them prove a “mundane” game that does its best to stay true to the era it’s based on can be a success. I want this game to show that quality and a vision that’s kept to can still compete with the mindless, pump-a-few-bucks-at-a-time-into-it formula so much of the mobile games out there push for people with short attention spans.
Some of those games CAN be fun, but I still want a challenge and a deeper story if I’m going to sit down and spend hours on a thing like this.
To me it’s a matter of making a point to the publishers that didn’t think this idea for a game would be something they could sell to players.
Given the fact that they want to make a “historically accurate” game, it would be a strange turn to have small side quest dedicated to say, a troll under the bridge. I’m 93% sure there’s enough politics and down to ground stuff to keep minds off dragons.
I concur. I would further add to that, with “mundane” I also mean "you are the chosen one!"
It’s kind of funny when in average MMOs out there, EVERYBODY is the chosen one… And also, I would say ALMOST EVERY single player RPG - I am also the chosen one. Why the hell do I have to be the messiah every single time? I AM NOT THE MESSIAH! LEAVE ME ALONE!
Perhaps not supernatural but superhuman could be used, if folks remember my post about alchemy i mention how historians theorized that Scandinavian bezerkers and middle-eastren assassins ingest hallucinogen concoctions that made them faster, stronger, fiercer and more resistant to pain then an average swords man. Now imagine getting ambushed by these freaky people with no concept of fear, pain and pure blood lust, and they are constantly hacking and swinging and stabbing non-stop till they go down.
The witcher is based on such theories.
Drugs that enhanced combat prowess, or tolerance for pain, or psychosis…
Yes, we have some stories about that here in Norway. Most historians here disregard it as a fantasy for the berserkers though. A berserker did not require drugs to go into his rage. Just a frame of mind, and enough self-inflicted stress. I definitely think drugs played a vital part in some warrior cultures though. Certainly in Central & South America. Also better to look at the gallic warriors “Gaesatae.” Before battle, it is said they would imbibe copious amounts of a “magical potion” that would make them feel no pain. They were said to drag out javelins from their body, and continue fighting in their berserking rage. Battle of Telamon, Battle of Thermopylae (not the one you are thinking of).
truth is stranger than fiction. especially when fiction has been milked dry.
Yeah same thing of assassins as well, that theory was discarded as well, just good old fashion religious zeal. Though the reason I brought up these discarded theories is they would at least be more plausible or “real-worldly” then mythical monsters, i think most of us seen enough police documentary to remember how it takes half a dozen police officers to take down a drugged-out lunatic.
There is so many interesting/intriguing/political story/plot to tell with “just” human being that i think it could be very good to avoid the easy way of “kill the monster” … please …make this game an amazing game !
No monsters! Warhorse will stay true to their word. The closest thing to a monster should be a Bear. of course, the game will be mod friendly so that would be the only way.
and what about the “realistic” monsters? Will there be wolves or others real world hostile creature in the game?
No goblins pls warhorse
one little troll in the game plsss
I have to add that in the middle ages 90% of the population were peasans, by peasans i mean not nobles or from the church…
So given that those peasans had less chances to be knighted that you have to choke to death on a burger, we are already gonna have an extraodinary adventure… Because i suppose that our character, being some kind of a blacksmith at the begining of the game, is gonna have many adventures that are gonna make of him a hero ! if not where’s the fun ?
So this had like 0.000001% of probability to occur back in the days… But it will in this game for the sake of the gamers !! (who wants to but a game a plant seeds, then wait a year to harvest crops ??)
So we’re gonna have an extraodinary adventure inside a realistic world… I think this is enough so that you don’t have to add fantasy elements
In a word it’s gonna be a fantastic game without any kind of fantasy !!
Without speaking of the mods of course !
