My impressions on 0.2 that ive seen(Updated)

There is some small bugs when talking to the shoopguy and blacksmith(maybe other too, but those I have noticed it on) Not a big one, but just little frustrating after some hours playing…

When you walk to they(special the shoopguy) he say he is busy, ask later etc. Then 2sec later you talk to him again, and then it works

I really enjoyed this quest, I haven’t completed fully yet due to bugs encountered in the process but I really enjoy the fact that its not streamlined point to point. I also enjoy not feeling like an errand boy, it really had a sense of do I want to do this? do I want to do this this way?

Can’t wait to see what you have in store for future quests keep up the good work!

Just out of curiosity how long did this take you? I do not intend to offend but it felt kinda thrown together, this expression has a stronger negative connotation then I wish to convey.

I’m not into too long dialogues but these dialogues are pretty good, havent played for too long so I didnt found out about all the ways I can play but I really like the Point of no Return aspect. To have multiple answers that are also connected with your attributes adds something quite nice plus some questions that you can ask if you’re curious and want to know more. I really like it so far although the quest is not extremely exciting
I hoped that we will be able to pick up things so I liked to search for thistles (nettles grow everywhere^^) would be cool if we can pick more plants up. Picking up is working fine for me could may still be improved though.

What I wish for is walking mode. It feels like Henry is in such a hurry and I just want to wander around, looking for herbs and admire the surroundings and graphics. It kinda works with gamepad but I want maybe an extra key for normal walking speed.

I’ll write some more most likely but I havent played much yet so thats all I want to say for now
great update, keep up the good work

Updated with my views on quests, some new bugs and some ideas

quest: I like that u can talk to the poisoned guy through the door while hes shitting his brains out (atleast i could). It be nice, if that was even trigger on close distance from that npc, so u can understand and immerse yourself with this quest even more. Muffled voice, pushing, voice in pain… Already better than skyrim.

The quest was pretty good even without voice acting. Found all the people to talk to (the Female was pretty hard, there are no names displayed anywhere yet, right? Found her sweeping the alchemy ladys front of the house).
Accused the poisoned guy of lying and framing, all the research iv done was presented to the … B… guard guy. Nice summary what info i got through the whole thing, reward - good.

Never got to do any alchemy, after collecting everything (btw if u require 5 coal, put like 8 coal on the ground, so i don’t have to be stuck on 4/5 and just not see the last piece, it’s pointless and helps nothing). The lady there is like “im going to teach you how to make the potion”… that never happnes. I get to the alchemy stand and click it, message, something like “to use alchemy, approach this and click use” appears aaaannd nothing else happens. Tried 2 new games, same thing, don’t know the recipe nor the procedure. It doesn’t matter too much now, but that’s how far iv gotten.

Is it possible to get a resource file to create a Fan-made-translation?
It would be nice to read the alpha content in my language.
maybe @YuusouAmazing or @others can translate it in german or similiar!?

Some of my impressions:

  • I couldn’t determine which building is the tavern, because all of them look essentially the same, especially from the insides.

  • I found Marianna by randomly pressing E on all people, because she looks too generic and she wanders far away from any buildings.

  • I didn’t understand how to use alchemy. The book on the right had some seemingly unrelated info. Also when I first tried it, I was able to pour different liquids into the pot, but when I found all the ingredients for the cure and came back, I couldn’t use those bottles anymore. I didn’t even get how do you put ingredients from inventory to the pot… perhaps I was just too sleepy at the time. But the system looks interesting, I will retry it. The book text is barely visible on my small monitor though, and I can’t zoom in.

  • Motivation. This is a global one. I don’t understand why does my character should help anyone. He doesn’t have his own aim. He will not die without food/water/respect from the villagers. So it feels like he just seeks random adventures for no reason. It would feel much better, if player had some real reasons to do quests, e.g. if you don’t find a bow, then at some time you face enemies unarmed and have to flee for your life. This should be not only story-driven motivation, but it should force the player to do something in order to avoid game over.

Go to the book, and push Y to see recepy(gues its wrong speld, but blame im not english…) and then find the one you want, and just 2 too choose from now so not so hard. And then hit ENTER, and he place youre ingridiants from the inventory on the table

I got the alchemy tutorial running ( was too fast first 3 tries. If i clicked the alchemy bench before it told me to, there was no tutorial - u don’t need it, if u know that “Y” for controller switches to recipes in the book). Bought ingredients from vendor, did both potions, couldnt really give antidote to the guy. Poisoned guy was stuck in “no-talk” mode when i pissed him of with accusations that he ate his own rotten meat - still was running to toilet, so he wasn’t totally glitched, just no talk option, which is fine again, restart would prob fix it again, i just don’t want to overplay too much here.
Never even attempted to find the hammer, there are 2 clues (farmer, neighbours fence). Now in realistic looking game it is pretty hard to find shit on the ground (if u know how it looks or where it is… ofc not problem - developer or full-time tester might not have problem with this, many people will). Couldn’t really talk him into giving the one i bought, he was bit of a prick and wanted just his hammer.
Also, Henry himself, can really be such an ass with “strenght” options, it’s quite interesting and with voice acting (hopefuly really good one), it will be quite unique to listen to him just threaten these old ladies and honest working fisherman.

yeah agreed very unclear on how the recipes work

open the book, push ‘‘Y’’ and then hit ‘‘Enter’’. Then he prepare for that recipe, if you have all you need in the inventory.

And after push ‘‘Y’’ it should be like this, and then its pretty easy to follow the recipe.
Like: take water(aqua as it stands on the triangle on the 2nd page there) put in 2handsfull of thistle then boil it 2 times etc

This is what needs to be fixed up a bit, I have trouble recognizing what building is what, im literally lost in a small village all the time, its hard trying to know whats what when everything looks the same

I wonder if cooking food will be done in a smilar way to alchemy…:stuck_out_tongue:

I WAS thinking the same way :'D

I hope they do that.

This is also a common problem by the way. Sometimes you have to push E 10 times on a character, before it will finally react on you. It seems like there is some kind of state machine, and NPC must finish his current state before switching to a different one.

I have noticed players only respond to me when facing them straight on face to face. but there is a bug that breaks quest characters from responding still don’t know what causes it yet.

I found the directions towards the kiln given by the alchemist in the forest a bit confusing. I kept looking quite close to the stream.
Quest markers should solve that, but if there is an option to play without them, it might be worth testing the directions on unsuspecting testers.

The quest itself was rather straightforward, albeit a crash-course in Central European botany for those not spending enough time outside  I also found the alchemy to be quite intuitive; and I liked how I can still read what it says in the herbarium after I have zoomed out.

I love that it is not only about good/greedy/bad options at the end and that you can dig deeper or just finish the quest with what you have at one point. Anything i wanted to ask or say was in the option. So yeah — please go that way

I just wonder if everybody will just using their strongest skill while choosing the answers. Or does those answers based on stats lead to different conclusions? Will be some NPC more resilient to some so it will better to try another, even unskilled way? (I think once speech werent an option so I guess it is that way).
Does the order of answers matter? I mean - if I try to intimidate someone, does it then affect my speech attempt on him or her?

Since alot of people, speccialy on youtube and steam compare it to Skyrim. And we understand why since Skyrim is the number one RPG. But one thing I REALLY hope KCD beats skyrim in(I mean ofc they will beat skyrim in alot, they almost do that allready in tech-alpha 0,2…) That is the ending and the time after the story/war. Like in Skyrim when you have finished the war there is a little speach then its over, it didnt even feel like a finish. And people in the world still talking about the war going on etc.

So really hope KCD will have a good end, and time after the story. Like we feel the changes after the war…

Am I only one who is dismayed by the fact there are no beds in rooms and people sleep on benches or coffers (wooden boxes)?

Btw the quest can be finish even though I said to Mariana “I do not want to be involved”.
And in quest with lost hammer the blacksmith is referring quest with flue although I have not took farmer quest.

tip: when people sleep they are mumbling something about treasure in the wood
