Am I only one who is dismayed by the fact there are no beds in rooms and people sleep on benches or coffers (wooden boxes)?<
No you’re not the only one. 
It is a result of resizing the houses.
and there was a danger that player to often collide with the devices
Most stuff must be recreated and/or modified
