Please give us the game option to save whenever we please, without savory schnapps

frelmedieval, You can’t participate in a conversation, without spewing your childish diatribe. I gave you a second chance, but there is no possible way to conduct a civil conversation with you. And lastly, don’t ever try and think nor speak for me! I am a hardcore gamer that loves whatever games that I say that I love, because, I said so. I love KCD, but I hate KCD’s save system. End of conversation. So long!

Thats more of a reflection of yourself than anything else.
I may dwell and dig and you may view that as childish but if I were being uncivil or overbearing @blacksmith or other mods would so admonish me. They haven’t.

Trying to understand someone (even if it might include challenging assumptions) isn’t (to presume) to think or speak for someone.

Exit saves, craftable items saves, location saves, auto saves, no anywhere-anytime (unlimited) save (except sometimes unreliable mod version). That’s the KCD save system, and you hate it. Understand. Hope some day your love overcome your hate

Nope, it is unfortunately not possible to do it like that.
There is a mod about it, but it has the tendency to cause problems after a while for some quests.

Well, I’m a bit surprised because I really never had an issue with this mod. (tested with 1.9.1 too)
The only bugs that I encountered in relation with “saving the game” also occured with KCD’s autosaves. During some quests, saving and then reloading broke them.

Atlan67, Thanks, but I’ll just wait. There are people saying that the latest version 1.9.1 is making some of their mods not work, even the unlimited saves one. As far as me installing it myself goes, I don’t know how and that last bit of info you provided me with, is beyond my computer literacy. Next time I get my computer upgraded, I’ll just ask my computer specialist to do it for me. I’m just a guy that is risk averse and likes things to work smoothly and efficiently, without any frustrating hard work on my part. That’s why I pay for a product and expect it to work and games are no different. Thanks again, but I prefer to wait, unless Warhorse plans on adding an optional unlimited saves option before then. Take care!

If you are uneasy with PC “knowledge”, I can understand why you want to wait for an official solution. But it’s a bit sad. You miss many things. For example, you won’t be able to make a back-up of your saves for all those games now that, even if they allow you to save when you want, only accept ONE save and then overwrite it the next time. (Metro Exodus’ quicksave).
Or, even more games only have ONE autosave checkpoint. (it has become almost usual) If you missed something or took a wrong decision, you are screwed. (Vampyr, Plague)
Or what if the game bugs and corrupts your save ?
I often alt-tab to be able to “save” a game status, by putting the game files in a numbered RAR archive. Nothing can happen.
This said, games like Morrowind-Oblivion-Skyrim have a “smart” quicksave system, because there are 3 of them, and even corresponding BAK versions - that you need to rename to use (so 6).
Same with their autosaves.

Some games like Dishonored have a limited number of saves (10 or 15). So I have created Dishonored_saves_1.rar to *****_5.rar files.

In the past (DOS games), things could be very different depending on the game.
Ultima Underworld allowed to save when you wanted. Battlespire too (remember the extremely difficult fights against crab-daedras or dark seducers ?) Early platformers didn’t even save after a completed level !!! (you had to do it yourself - Cosmo’s cosmic adventure) Other games had a check-point save.
(Ah, and in Commander Keen 4 & 5 (not the first three) you could save during a jump !!! LOL)
I think “autosaves” didn’t even exist in some earlier FPS (quicksaves yes).

Also, if you know a bit how to “tinker” with the PC, you can back-up all your saves from every game. I put them originally on floppy, then burnt them on CD, and now they are on external hard drives. I still have my saves from Ultima Underworld…1991

There are people who rely too much on autosaves : many times I’ve seen in a forum someone saying “gee, my savegame is corrupt” or “I lost my save” … and they NEVER saved manually, even though it was possible !!!

Atlan67, I wish that I were more computer literate, but I’m not and that’s ok too. I just have to pay someone to help me with those things.

As far as saves go, I am one that would always hit ESC. and save manually, for most of my games. Although, some games had unlimited save slots, while others had limited save slots. I preffer the unlimited manual save slots, The f5 (quick save) key, I never used, exept for once, just to test it out, but preffered the manual save method, even if it took a tad longer. Then I could just keep the manual saves I wanted and delete the rest, once the game had further progressed to a point, where I felt comfortable deleting some of those manual saves. I guess I’ve also been lucky with the games that I love and have played, mostly all having a manual save option. Very few have not had that option, but they did have a more frequent quick save option than KCD.

It’s hard to make comparisons concerning saves, when I haven’t played any of the games you just mentioned. other than The Elder Scrolls series. My most beloved games that I played for endless hours are: The Two Worlds series, Dragon Age series, Mass Effect series (excluding Andromeda), Mount & Blade series, Far Cry 3 & 4, Deus Ex series, The Saboteur, Age of Pirates series, Baldur’s Gate series, Galactic Civilization series, Hitman series, Ghost Recon: Wildlands and even Curse of Raven’s Cry. Other games that I enjoyed to a lesser degree but still managed to complete them are: Total War: Medieval series, Drakensang series, The Witcher series, Watch Dogs series and the lsat 2 Tomb Raider games (before Shadows of Tomb Raider). There are a few others, but this just gives you an idea of what genres I love the most.

Lastly, I hate losing old saves and that’s why I sold my 500+ physical copies of PC games and re-purchased the ones I love the most on Steam, and also because physical copies were becoming obsolete and digital downloads was the new way to go and keep up with the times. Doesn’t Steam save your progress on the Cloud? Or is this just for massive multi-plater games? Anyway, thanks for posting and trying to help, but I’ll survive with the games I own, plus all the great upcoming titles that I’m excited about, like Two Worlds 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Beyond Good and Evil 2, Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord and a few others. I also own, but have yet to play Total War: 3 Kingdoms, Shadows of Tomb Raider and Sniper, Ghost, Warrior 2 and 3. As you can see, there are no shortages of good games, just a shortage of time to play them all. Oh, and I miss out on some great games by being a PC only player too, like the Uncharted series, the Red Dead Redemption series and the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima, That’s just how it goes. Thanks and take care!

Curious that you don’t try console

Apologies for the necro

Tell you what, I play for hours upon hours on end, without saving every two HOURS. If I get sent back an absurd distance, or if I die often, when I return to where I died is when I use a save. You are saving excessively, and needlessly. YOU may see the need, but that’s because you haven’t properly used the skill progression. I DON’T see the need, and even I haven’t been using the skill progression as I should.

Look, I don’t care if you bought the game, you haven’t bought the devs. The devs do what they feel is in the best interest of the game, not the player. Deal, or stop playing altogether. Its your choice. This game will never have unlimited quick saves, because that’s not how the game is intended to be played. Thats why there are MODS, and that’s why mod devs regularly patch as the game is patched! Sure, you may have to redownload the game once or twice, IF you haven’t followed the instructions and made sure that the versions are compatible! I tell you now though, you learn REAL quick how to install a mod, and take it from someone who has installed several for other games.

I’m just done hearing about the incessant malcontents whining about “the combat system is too hard” or “I can’t save enough for my preferences” or “I hate the skill progression, I just wanna play the game.”

BOO FREAKIN HOO, you bought the game for what it offered, and you didn’t like what it offered! SO WHAT! What does ANY sane person do when they encounter something they don’t like? They move on, away from that thing! So move on mate, stop demanding a feature Warhorse has made clear they do not want to, and will not implement.

For what it’s worth, I have zero issue playing through the entire game 3 times or more, just to see all it has to offer.

And I enjoy those aspects of Hardcore mode lol. When searching out treasure in the forest, I end up doing alot of map reading, sun watching, backtracking, and compass guessing (no direction labels). As for no fast traveling? I ride my horse hard, requires me to sacrifice load bearing horses for speed/endurance qualities. Also, have traveled major locations so many times, I just know where I’m at. Sleep walking is my absolute favorite perk. It’s similar to getting blind-ass drunk and waking in odd places, without the hangovers. Each of us have our own likes/dislikes- and some just want to autosave every 5 steps : \
