I hear ya, Shady. I love this game but sometimes you come across something that just makes you go “well how the fuck was I supposed to know that?”. Honestly, my advice to you is to download the unlimited save mod. I never play the game without it. There’s probably gonna be people bitching at me about it but I bought the game and I can play it however I want

Just yesterday while playing KCD, my PC crashed for example… The Save Everywhere (mod on Nexus site) helped me lose less time…
You can win with low health shoot him in the head with a bow if you are on normal mode. Hardcore you can not do that because he wears a Helmet with Visor. I was like you my first play through and gave up on trying to use other weapons plus I followed the main story line straight into that fight without further training with Bernard without Riposte or Perfect Block Parry Counter Strike.
