What kind of 3rd view we are talkinb about anyway? I think people image this differently…
Basically the same, different distance and pivot point but that’s just fiddling around with some values…
Well, you can say that about differences of 1st and 3rd person views too…
Kind of, yea that’s right, but you would have to model things like a hood for first person separately (as seen with the cheated hood already), probably some more things but nothing comes to my mind right now…
@Wenceslaus i like your point. i’m thinking of differences in 1st person games like Killzone 2/3 versus CoD vs. Mirrors edge vs Proteus. All of these handle, view, and act quite a bit differently, from super smooth almost floating camera, to lots of bounce and sway, to various movement angles and ease of environment traversal. I think the same problems lie in both perspectives. WotR as a prime example. you can zoom in and out of the character and that changes drastically how effective you are at aiming, or seeing someone come in from behind.
they each present challenges, but I think actually @LordCrash has it right about it and now I see his point. the perspective shouldn’t be a stretch goal, if WH feels like it will add benefit to the game. they should either include directly, or allow the modders to do what they will with it. the stretch goals should be just that, stretch. I made posts earlier that I still think are valid but at the same time I now see the major side of Lord’s argument and i agree. the perspective itself is not the issue, but rather how and why it gets put into the game. i would like to see my pledge and the new pledgers money go toward a new or expanded feature, or even adding like 10 new unplanned perks etc. i’m gonna spend more time with the alpha tonight and probably come up with a list of things i’d like to see.
If you still have free time to addnot planned feature in KCD…
I prefer that you use this time to add more NPC, more secondary quest, more animation, add mini-game, …
So get every thing richer and bether
For me 3rd person is a waste of your precious time.
But i know you need to get more money… maybe 3rd person will attract extra money…
If you chose it as next goal its ok for me but still a waste of time
Because i dont like 3rd view.
Mayy this game be a epic one
If Warhorse thinks they can do an effective TPV that works well without delaying the release of the game, I’d rather they just add it in whether they make another stretch goal or not. Obviously the ability for them to do it is there if they’re already using a TPV to test combat, animations, and so on.
I don’t think adding TPV should be a stretch goal just to get more people to donate to the project.
As for TPV vs. FPV, if it does end up happening, as long as the FPV is as good as it’s meant to be, I don’t really care how others choose to play. They could use the TPV as much as the game will allow them to, and it wouldn’t affect me one bit. I’d still use the FPV more by default, but there may be cases where a TPV is nice to switch to.
I don’t feel like offering this as a potential addition ruins what I pledged for, though. That, to me, is just getting into hysterics before even knowing if this would actually delay the expected release. If it doesn’t, it really shouldn’t be a big deal beyond the method Warhorse is using to offer it.
I also don’t think adding TPV suddenly means all the other things people are asking for (multiplayer, wife, children, your own castle, etc.) are going to follow. Have a little more faith than that.
current new stretch goal ideas:
- is swimming in the game? that’d be cool
- new mini-games ( i know sheering was one suggested), perhaps cobbling, leatherworking, fuck it, even knitting!
- are there going to be knightly competitions? like jousting, multi-man melee, archery tricks (think robin hood), etc
- setting things on fire would be cool, but i understand taht could be terribly expensive to do. whole questlines could be burned to the ground (wink wink, get it!)
- training hounds, hunting parties
- i mentioned before more perks (we’ve got a thread on that i believe already)
- love the idea of building your own cabin or something (not sure who came up with it originally but definitely not claiming it as my idea) the more i think about it, the more it sounds like if StarCitizen could use the clothing/layering system for their ships, could it maybe be retooled/modified to make simple houses? would be cool.
- agreed with @tabarnator, better/harder/faster/stronger everything else would be good use of time/resources.
more ideas to come…
@Hellboy what other things have been considered for the next stretch goal other then third person?
I would love to see a poll with maybe the top 3 most occurring wanted features.
@Everyone else, if third person is implemented no one is forcing you to use it. this argument of WH being “sell out” for wanting to appeal to a wider audience is ridiculous this is a Crowd funded project if the majority wants a third person feature then thats what they should get.
guys stop being so Hipster about this. It would be nice to have the option but we know we will all use 1st person 99% of the time . just calm down you wont have to use it if you dont want
That would be so awesome especially the effects of what you are wearing. Like armor makes you sink or clothes soaking in the water makes it harder for you to swim. Then, your clothes are wet
Ahem, no. Crowdfunding doesn’t mean that the backers decide on the direction of the project. Actually that’s usually the case when projects get fucked up. People pledged because there was already a strong vision for the project not because they wanted to create a project by majority vote. It should be totally up to Warhorse to decide on the vision, with respect to what they already promised. Nobody here is entitled to decide on the direction or vision of this project, whether you are part of some omnious majority or not.
So I honestly don’t think that this poll here is a good idea. If @Hellboy wants to make 3rd person for his game he should do so. If he wants our feedback or arguments for pro/contra 3rd person we gladly answer. But what’s the reasoning behing this poll? What’s the reasoning behind making this a stretch goal if enough people (how many are enough?) say yes here? Does Dan and Warhorse lack the confidence to decide on that on their own?
I appreciate the dicussion and I appreciate the arguments but the poll and the idea to make that a stretch goal is just bollocks imho.
Yeah, but maybe we are not so happy about a $400.000 feature that won’t be used by the (alleged) majority of backers/players anyway. Wasted resources anyone?
The stretch goals at this point aren’t exactly there to entice those of us who have already contributed anyway, especially during the Kickstarter phase. Stuff like the codex will be cool for us to have, though.
nevermind, it seems the third person will mostly apply to traveling and horseriding. sounds good to me.
Well, I can only talk about myself but it wouldn’t be the first time that I’ve raised my pledge later in the dev process. For example that happened lately with Torment ToN to make that last stretch goal happen…
But one word about the whole idea behind"stretch goals": actually stretch goals should be about features that you (as a developer) always wanted but couldn’t fund so far. They shouldn’t be about stuff you don’t even personally know whether they would fit the game or not. If you have to think for more than a few minutes about new stretch goals you probably shouldn’t make ANY such goals because obviously there is nothing left you need a specific amount of money for.
That doesn’t mean that funding has to end. You can still left funding open but without specific stretch goals. Just tell people that every dollar will support you in making the game better in every possible aspect.
If you want to change your vision for the game or core features just do so. Of course it’s nice to ask the community about their opinions and feedback but asking for more money to change core aspects of the game seems a bit weird to me.
I feel so much tension from this thread.
Blame Dan…
it was worse earlier. but honestly @LordCrash has very valid points and I hope WH is listening. especially when Crash brings up “is this poll even necessary?” i get why WH did that, testing the waters about how a feature would be received. perhaps even in the background there was desire from the dev team to have 3rd person camera. but it wasn’t something Dan or Team had talked about, pretty much at all, until this poll came up. and it’s cool that he gave his reasons as to why it’s even come up and how he changed his mind behind the idea. he thought it would screw up 1PV too much, but it won’t and the community seems to want it. both valid points. but a stretch goal is not the same as a “oh, turns out we could do this” goal. i’m with LordCrash that he nor I can just make them do or not do it, if they wanted to they could. but there are better ways to go about putting that feature in that don’t make it feel like (from an outside perspective) resources are being used in places where the game overall and that which was designed from the start could use them instead.
and i’m thinking @LordCrash, perhaps it’s time to retake this thread for what it’s title is?? i think we’ve had a great discussion on this and anyone who reads this thread can see that I had a bit of a change of heart regarding this topic, mostly because of your posts. but we could now start listing ideas out like the title suggests “What should be our next stretch goal?” so let’s start posting those ideas people!
Yeah but you have to admit its nice the devs are giving us choices most devs only care about the money. These devs actually care about making a quality project. I’ve been kinda going back and forth about the issue. I don’t like that you can use combat in third but that’s just my opinion. But at the same time i think it would be awesome to have for cool screenshots of your guy in full armor standing on a hill or something like that. I think they should keep the combat and horse riding first person but make a travel mode where you can use third and take cools screenshots. I also dont like how people are saying the devs stabbed early backers in the back. I’m an early backer and i don’t feel betrayed by this and people should stop saying that.
