Should I buy this game?

One of the greatest RPGs I ever played.
It has its own share of bugs and unnerving mechanics, but that’s to be expected from a small studio.
The game has several new and fresh mechanics, and receives continuous support and new DLCs are released.

Great great game, can’t recommend it enough.

Honestly. All the above comments aren’t wrong. But the game is simply rich with authentic flavor, history, story and character development. It’s often one of those cathartic and constantly rewarding experiences. Wether your picking flowers or shooting floating logs to improve your archery plus other attributes related to pulling a bow string such as agility. The people who enjoy this game enjoy the slow and thought-out approach as the people that don’t enjoy this game just accuse the often clunky mechanics that are mostly exposed when the player tries to run around like it is Skyrim. You will encounter bugs but the detail and craftsmanship of the game greatly outweighs them. You can tell when a game is made poorly and when a game is made with passion despite the issues it has had in the past. The game is truly an RPG.

And no one can deny that the majority of the quests truly make you feel like they are Important tasks.

You kinda just have to get into it.

I’m at about 260 hours, finished the main game about 4 times on normal and playing through on Hardcore difficulty. It’s still an amazing experience after all that time, and on hardcore incredibly immersive.

You nailed it. Great comment.

For as little as 17 EU on Eneba, this is one heck of a journey to make! You’ll spend hundreds of hours in this deviant and wild world, and truly, you won’t regret a single minute! While it’s true that the game tends to crash from time to time, and some quests are literally impossible to finish from first-attempt, putting these aside and saving the game as often as you can solve this nuance. I wholeheartedly recommend the game, especially if you’re not rushing through your gameplay!

Yeah, the road to the East after you go North of Rattay spawns Cumans all the time. Bandits too. And they scale up as you advance. I’m skilling up on them. It’s the area where you do the bird catching quest. I’ve probably killed about 30-40 Cumans right now in my hardcore game, just off of that area alone, and I NEVER fight at night. Can’t see a damn thing. And I know about that potion for night vision, but seems a little expensive when I can fight in day time just fine.

I am probably at about 150 hours and played twice on normal and am playing through on hardcore right now.

At half price, it’s a good deal.

Half price is a bargain. I’d happily pay full price, and definitely will for the next game.

Depends: do you like game breaking bugs? Then no. It has A LOT. I’m currently not able to finish the game cause the NPC won’t talk to me and will just stay in his room looking at the window when he should be in a camp. And this is just the tip. I’ve had to reload several times due to game breaking bugs. And this isn’t counting minor bugs that, when they let you keep playing with workarounds, are annoying. Seems no one did any testing in this game.
You like one of the clumsiest combat systems ever? Then go ahead, and enjoy how random it is. Sometimes you counter and instakill an enemy, the next, with max strength and weapon proficiency, at max stamina, and after winning a struggle the opponent parries you, counters, deals damage and makes you bleed with your full plate with you having ABSOLUTELY no way to counter it. And this is when you do duels. Thats the only moment the combat system can shine. Once you fight with 2 or more it becomes a mess were you must abuse certain techniques (basically running back, parrying, hoping for counter and using a high hit, or using F to start a struggle, win it and, you guessed it, use a high hit). And battles are AWFUL. So damn AWFUL. You just get to the back of enemies and start clicking hard while your allies tank them. Thats it. And as the game autolocks on enemies (and tab selection is BAD), you may find yourself aiming randomly at certain moments at people that are far away from the one you are trying to aim. Also, combos are a mess. They mostly never execute correctly due to the big amount of factors the combat uses to choose if you hit or not. And most feel so forced and unnatural, in the end its much better to ignore combos.

The good thing? the ambience is pretty good, the story is nice, the characters are well written (except henry, the damn PROTAGONIST, who is as dumb as a rock) and how the cities and armors work is pretty cool. Quests are mostly decent too, although I never felt like the “divine gift” several npcs say you are, specially in the last mission tahts SO MEH it hurts. Suposedly you command troops, but there literally 0 RPG in that scene, you just go…and attack. Thats it. A pity cause it’s a game with a lot of potential ruined by atrocious decision I can’t understand how were they approved. And the bugs, of course. LOADS of bugs.

So wait for a bargain, maybe that way the devs test their game next time.

You should wait for Royal Edition on 28th May. You will have complete experience.

I have to agree with the others who said that it’s a great game that’s not worth buying. The bugs are completely gamebreaking, and although you may have the luck of some and not experience them, if you do, you can lose over 100 hours easily. I recently purchased the game 1/2 off on Steam, and was having a blast for the most part. The story was great, the depth was great, the authenticity was great. Unlike the above poster, I actually loved Henry. He had some subtle wit in there, a lot of deadpan/dry humour, and was just highly refreshing as a protagonist unlike most. The Combat, not so much, but I was getting through it once I switched to stealth/bow. The above poster is 100% accurate on his portrayal of combat.
From time to time, I would crash, and lose up to an hour’s play, which was frustrating, but i understood that i could have saved more often too. Well anyway, 40+ hours in, the game crashes again, and all my saves are just gone. I googled it, and it seems to be a reasonably (unreasonably?) common occurrence. Start a new game? (by the way, my rig is less than a year old, and can play nearly any game maxed.) Nah. Especially when i looked on these forums and saw how it’s a cliffhanger ending. What kind of game is that? Buggy to the point of unplayability for random people (not everyone), and then a half ass ending? I really hate that I had to do it, but i asked for a steam refund. This game just isn’t worth it, in it’s current condition, which is appalling for a year after release. Will consider rebuying for ~20 in a year if they actually make the game stable, and they make it so before releasing KC2. Doesn’t seem to be happening though, and i am afraid they will just work on KC2 instead, looking for the next inflow of cash. Such a shame

PS: I know I could get someone else’s save, but have no desire to do so for various reasons

You crashed after 40+ hours in and lost all your saves? You are one of a kind. I crashed only once and could replay from my last save. Some bugs prevented me from continuing game (quest NPC disappeared) and I died few times due to some weird collisions with trees or got stuck in a fence or being dismounted right after cutscene but it is one per game bug that does not happen again or persists unless I load save before it started. But losing save files in the process? Not me. Whatever reasons, I think you should give this game a chance because it is not really so bad as you may think.

If you do a google search “Kingdom Come Lost Save”, you can see that i am not remotely alone. Crashes (non-catastrophic) happened about 1-2 crashes a day of playing (IRL), sometimes in game, sometimes during a load screen. If thats not a defective product, i dont know what is. And a product 1 year after release. I really did give the game a chance, and had a blast with it, despite the crashes and clunky combat/ai, the story and setting were amazing. But thats like loving a ferrari that is pristine on the outside, but it’s engine is non-functional and therefore can only sit in the driveway. It’s truly a shame, because i had just recommended the game to multiple friends, and had to take it back. Anyway, i’m out from this forum, but wanted to leave my buyer’s beware here, and my hopes that the publisher takes the responsibility to their customers seriously, and fixes KC1 before putting a ton of work into KC2, but im not optimistic after a year.

I also would like to mention, I do get CTDs every now and then, probably once every 3 times I sit down and play. The game will get choppy then it just closes. I also get a weird bug where Henry won’t sheathe his bow and won’t take out his melee weapon and the game randomly won’t recognize I’m pushing E to loot something. But a reload usually fixes that. This is on the PC. Those are my only bug issues.

I need to ask you have you ever installed a mod on the game? As you may well know that if mods are not updated to the current patch they will do weird things to your game. Uninstalling a mod is not always sufficient since many mods alter the *.ini files and they too become corrupted. If you use Steam you need to delete the corrupted *.ini files from the steamapps game folder. I have over 100 hours on the game and I have not experienced anything remotely like you describe. Hopefully, you can find a game that has no bugs and allow you to play problem free.

Hi, was this question for me? I rarely play with mods on anything and have not here, at all. No. I don’t have any game breaking bugs. So, I’m in pretty good shape.

No, I was responding to Kharpos who said the game crashed after 40 hours. There are multiple reasons why a game would crash, one of which would be an old mod that may still be lingering hidden in the game file.
