Some realism ideas

will we get shields and off hand weapons like a parrying dagger or a buckler for daily use
and will the horse get some armor?

also when we go into cities shouldn’t you have to open youre visor if not remove your helmet/armor altogether for identification?
another thing is how about actual space of how much stuff takes up in your inventory. i don;t want to be able to carry 4 breastplates, 6 helmets, and 3 swords until i overcarry
there should be a gradual decrease in speed with weight and need for stamina to sprint but to carry stuff there should be a system like in unturned, where if you take something too big and try to put it in your bag or something you’d drop it or hold it in your hands
all the gear should be shown taking up space on henry’s body in a backpack or something of the sort
one last thing is the time it takes to change your armor and weapons. being able to instanly switch out armor and weapons is kind of game breaking for me i mean putting on full plate armor would take some time at least more than simply changing clothes

now that i think about it…how about sanitation and disease, will henry ever get sick or collapse from exhaustion
also stamina should restore mor slowly or not really at all since henry nor was anyone from the time period superman. recovering should take some time, and regular running should take some stamina as well as walking, although the stamina drain from this should be extremely minimal
this would give the horse a whole new usage as horseback riding isn’t as tiring as running or sprinting.
what about nutrition? eating apples all the time couldn;t be very healthy…
and what about jumping in armor and out of armor?

i think thats it

Realism was widely discussed here on forums.

Conclusin was: "We are going for realism but not for the price of fun."
Simply put KCD is an RPG game not a simulator.

But putting this aside.

  • Shields wil lbe there. Payrrying dagger and buckler are not confirmed.
  • Removing visor/helmet is not confirmed but I’d guess something similar will be implemented.
  • Inventory should be reasonably set, but remember, this is still a game and making hyper realistic inventory could take the fun from the game.
  • Armor change time not confirmed. But remember this is a game and this might create “arg, not this again” situation.
  • Deseases, starvation, exhaustion are confirmed and shoud appear in the game.
  • Stamina, aside from being realstic, is also a tool for balancing the game and so some sacrifices could be made.
  • Nutrition, thats just a luxury
  • Jumping in and out? this is not Titanfall

For sure, but how should this work? Putting the armor on with some animation? Should we even animate the leather straps if you use them? You know this is a lot of work for a feature that is not helpful to the game at all. If we would do this, we would need to cut out other and more important parts of the game.

Unfortunately iventory system won’t be realistic at all. You can put full plate armor and 3 sword in your ivisible pocket and access horse inventory even if horse is on the oder side of map. it’s more like Skyrim. I hope for realistic inventory to but i can understant that it would be very complicated to make and some people would find it annoying.

Yep thats how inventory works in Alpha 05.
But that does not necessarily means it will be like ths in final game.

I don’t think they will change it too much. They have lot of other things they need to work on and release date is not that far.

Do not underestime the power of Bohemian people!

Now as a boxer, and personal trainer I can say the way they implemented the stamina regeneration is on point, no it isnt 100% realistic but like everyone has said its game and stopping or slowing down the regeneration will take the fun out of the fight. In a fight you can regenerate your stamina, it takes discipline and a lot hard work but we can do it. it comes down to proper breathing, core muscles and heart rate, and whole other fitness mumbo jumbo. Now when we focus on regaining stamina it does not come back to full glass, bit by bit each time we restore our stamina the glass gets more and more empty and I’m not talking about the rests in between fights yes, they help a lot but we also restore our stamina in the middle of the fights. we do this more during training and sparring before fights we would usually spar for 10min with 1min rest inbetween, this helps us focus on our breathing and lowering our heart rate. To give you an example breath deeply through the mouth and quickly exhale through the nose, do this 3 times and breath normally. Now what I say should not be used as a training guide in anyway nor do I recommend or condone using those methods in training or in any other activity, if so I will not be held responsible for any consequences that may happen. And one last thing I still think the combat system still needs re-tweaking and the stamina regeneration can still use an re-tweak itself but it does not need the stamina regeneration to stop plus even though they weren’t supermen back in those days they were certainly much fitter than the average man today, due to technology taking over most of basic exercises such as transport and vehicles etc and other such activities that would be used as a basic workout, have a good day

i agree totally as a tae-kwon-do practitioner and as a brawler (in my school days)
yes i can step back or do a longerranged kick to give myself some room and a bit of a breather but im thinking henry is still just a blacksmith’s son so he probably wouldn’t have that kinda skill or even if he was one of those natural fighters it would just mean he had a tougher body and maybe good reactions and would probably be fast

i kinda doubt that henry would be like this

and for the jumping in and out of armor i meant jumping while wearing armor or not there should be a difference

also will crawling and climbing be a thing?

Yes, there should be a difference…, don´t know if it will be in the game.

But you are right, Henry shouldn´t be able to change the armor in a fight. A weapon okay…, but armor not!

You can crounch in alpha 0.5 (“C”) and some kind of ladder climbing should be in the game…(castle siege)

now you good points but like you said “if he was one of those natural fighters” this comes down to genetics. it doesn’t matter what his parents occupation was, if the genetic make-up is right he could have higher reflex’s then the average man, higher metabolism, or able to pack muscle at a faster rate than the average man. genetics can improve many things in a man’s life including combat adaptability. now fitness is quite complicated, there’s three types of fitness, Aerobic, Anaerobic and one other at the moment is giving me a mind blank, and considering his father was a blacksmith who makes swords, as we found out in the first live stream, Henry could have dabble in fencing as a kid practising with the swords his dad made, and as you play the alpha you see that your not that skilled, you only know a few combos, and can only take on a beginner. the thing is what makes it historically accurate that henry can and cannot do, from a human stand point henry has a natural talent and what drives him to pursue those talents is the death of his family and the kidnapping of his king. there’s so much that we can call historically accurate but when it comes to people and how they are genetically that’s impossible, that’s where our imagination comes in, by what we see of people today. and a blacksmith were quite strong had a built upper body due to their job, and as a son it would be common that he would of helped around the forge. if this doesn’t make much sense just let me know and ill try to clarify I’m all over the place at the moment, really tired after a 3 hour training session  but it was nice discussing this with you

There would be VERY little difference, if any. The biggest one would be endurance; I can do anything IN armor that I can do OUT of it, just not for as long. And even THAT is mitigated by proper conditioning.

I hope to GOD the game dispels the myth of lumbering, clunky plate armor

This actually reminds me of one contest we had for children.
We had a mail shirt that we put on children and let them race to a pole cca 10 meters away and back. The mail weighted sometimes more than the child wearing it and the time the children took to run that distance wasn’t much different from time they were able to make unencumbered.
With adult male and properly fitting plate I would suppose the difference would be even smaller. As it is proportionally lighter and the weight may be even better distributed than overlarge mail shirt on a child.

No, no don´t understand me wrong. I thought only about the weight (maybe 20 kilo). If I carry so much (no matter if it´s a plate armor or… a backpack), I don´t jump so high…

In most RPG it dosn´t matter if you are carrying 5 kilo or 45 kilo (let´s say you maximum is 50 kilo), but in RL it makes a big difference…

In most games you run like a Olympian if you carry “only” 49,9kilo,…but 0,1 kilo more and you can´t move(or run at least) :snail:

Maybe we will see a more realistic handling of inventory weight in KDC…

well i mean can YOU jump as high as you can wearing 20kg on your body?

i sure as hell cant
it might not be lumbering or clunky
i know this as a fact as my uncle owns a set of i believe 16th century plate armor the fluted (one of those with tons of fullers on the breastplate and other places)
but when i wear it, it is a bit too big but i guess it still fits the purpose
my 2.5 foot vertical jump is reduced by quite a bit as i can’t even reach the backboard of a basketball hoop while wearing his armor
this might be because its oversized for me but i still believe that you cant jump as easily wearing the armor as without

thanks this actually makes alot of sense and your points make a lot of sense
i googled aerobic and anaerobic and it was a pretty interesting read

I saw the last video from warhorse studio, the one about the 0.5 BETA.
I am very happy how they work on realism. I am fan of realism because I think it can increase your game experience. All features must serve the gameplay in a coherent way. If not then, no need to implement it.
For example, lock picking, you don’t need a elaborate system if the crime detection is not solid enough.
Same for the need to sleep or to eat.
And i am delighted to see how guys, you are making this game very realistic in some way AND coherent. This video was pure joy to me.
I am really expecting a incredible gaming experience, so please don’t mess it up

I think you should have to be next to your horse to access its inventory. I don’t understand why it isn’t implemented that way.

Since you can call the horse (almost) anytime it would not make much sense to make it this way…

On the other hand I believe that it would be more interesting if the game would require the player to pay some attention where he puts his horse… not just spawning it next to him after whistling. I actually have some suspicion that they want to change it somehow. I mean what would henry had the ‘horse whistling’ skill for otherwise?

EDIT: Invisible pockets are not bothering me. Limiting inventory for sake of realism would not add on gameplay imho
