Indeed! Thank you for understanding. I actually joined because I felt this game was way better than I first expected. I lurked for a long time before creating an account. Now this is my favorite game and it reminds me of my old tabletop rolepleying games from when I was younger. Nostalgia at its best!
Nope, āgraphicsā for me.
But it is more than the term implies.
Not just talking hi res or high colour or high object numbersā¦ its the attention to detail in how it comes together.
How many non tech demos are doing what KCDs Ultra lighting models allow?
Many bought this game for its evolutuon on the technology side. Not many other games push PC tech this hard (a trophy often won by open world games)
Since I first saw Crysis ( on launch, which I also enjoyed in Ultra quality) I have been waiting for a medieval game using cry engine.
Ryse: son of rome isnt my type of game.
KCD is.
The model complexity is far improved over all recent rpgs I have seen.
Everytime I see a fence I just marvel at the palings.
Knowing my machine is being pushed harder is a joy.
Like Crysis - this game is a marvel.
I half expect the smoke to escape from my rig when I play this thing.
(Computers run on smoke - if the smoke escapes - they stop running)
Myst and The Seventh Guest
At a time when PC graphics ramped up, so did games sold simply because of their graphics.
Eye of the Beholder next genād dungeon master and on premise āits all been done beforeā why do we buy new versions? (Enhanced graphics)
Of course I totally agree that the substance is what makes us come back.
.
Elite (braben '84) had basic graphics and stood the test of time better than most.
Hey I like text adventures. But graphics sellā¦
Its why Wipeout on Vita ran at 30 frames per second instead of sixty. Boxshots.
Its why xbox one x targets 1400p res for KCD rather than higher framerate which would be more useful for mostā¦
I bought KC:D (and a vanilla PS4) based upon many factors - story, history, game-play, and graphics.
Prior to KC:D, I hadnāt played a video game in around 5 years. Last thing might have been a Prince of Persia game on PS2, for all I can recall.
All I can say is that, for the most part, (see rain issues), I am thrilled with the graphic quality on PS4.
I can tolerate pop-ins, and loss of some definition cried about by some posters after recent patches.
This game is truly a work of art, in so very many respects.
Christ, I fire it up after work just to read the codex and āget me some history lessonsā and relax.

Sickening Fan Boi
We are all here for the same reason, we love the game and we want it to become a great success.
But at the end of the day, the insane, extreme texture pop-ins are just not acceptable by any standard, by any margin, no matter how great the game is. This is a game, this is a product, and there are certain things that should be met. I really hope they fix this because it is not normal to have entire cities, walls, bridges, large scale objects just disappear because it failed to render in time. Doesnāt matter how great the game is.
What system are you on? PC, console?
Bugs, graphic quality, etc. has been so widely different across all platforms since day 1.
I wonāt pretend to know the details of video game technicalities, but from what Iāve seen, PC users with mods have had the worst of it.
Iāve been truly blessed w/ a vastly positive experience on PS4.
I have to,disagree with you on this.
Graphics ONLY may be a meaning less point, but then no one expects to get ONLY graphics in any game, unless youāre still playing Pong.
Think of a game you may have played 10 years ago or could have played.
If you saw the graphics and had the option to view KCD in an old graphics style or the present style, which one would, you prefer to play?
With the advent of HDTV ( not bragging, but I have a 70 inch screen and need higher resolution ) people are beginning to expect higher resolution in most platforms, except texting.
Early Games did not hold any fascination for me, mostly because of their graphics, until I SAW Skyrim.
Previously when I looked at a game, it was like playing in a cartoon, and while cartoons may have satisfied my immature mind as a child, they no longer do so. Except maybe the Simpsons!
I WANT realism and when I saw KCD graphics I knew I wanted the game. I played some Witcher III and liked the graphics, but didnāt care for the combat mechanics.
I didnāt care much for the video cuts in WIII either, and didnāt think I would care for them in KCD, but in KCD they always seem relevant to the story, and I look forward to them. In WIII I found them superficial and an interruption to the game.
While I donāt believe anyone buys a game strictly for graphics, as the games become more visually realistic, I believe people will begin to expect higher resolution, otherwise the big screens are a waste.
KCD set that bar a little higher, and developers, hopefully, are going to scramble to do even better.
Affordable VR is just around the corner, and who wonāt get bored with VR in cartoon mode?
Did I say I enjoy spending hours just exploring KCD because of the beautiful realistic scenery?
And when the graphics are better, Iāll enjoy it even more, and so will everyone else.
The views expressed here are entirely my own and not sponsored by anyone.
Peace
Even with pong you expect input response.
Of course people buy games for their graphics but not exclusively their graphics as they would then be screensaver-like and not games
Kirksty said something which could be interpreted as only. That is why I asked the clarification question (what do you mean by that) and then pointed out that graphics were a primary selling point of KCD (1st bullet point of PSN ad). iow, the literal take didnāt make sense and the liberal take was flatly contradicted by the studioās own advert
How many games do you have loaded on your console?
About How many hours of playing time total?
How many hours playing KCD?
How old is the console?
Any mods for other games on your console?
Any mods for KCD?
With all the varied responses and problems with consoles, no one seems to be asking relevant questions about the specific consoles involved.
Maybe by asking what might appear as irrelevant questions, we might solve some of the problems, because I have a hard time believing ALL the problems are strictly game (programming) related.
PS4-pro a year old, only WoT and KCD installed been playing maybe 100 hours or a bit more in KCD.
Brand new PS4-pro that I bought for my children, barely been played before I installed KCD and tried a new run.
Original PS4 from release day with many games installed including KCD at the moment.
Friends PS4-pros, four different of them actually that I convinced to buy KCD and they liked the game alright, in 1.5 that is.
All of them suffers the exact same problems with huge popins and no blood or dirt on armour and clothes. The graphics are alright and beautiful but entire villages and their citizens are poping in right before my eyes on all those consoles. There are no exceptions to this issue so of course it is on the developers side to fix this issue. It worked well and if not perfect, very close to perfect with the 1.5 version but it all became way worse with the 1.6
One of those friends work as a programmer himself and he ended up rebuying the game on PC because he could not stand the houses poping in and how slow some textures loaded. I have not much experience myself with this game on PC but I trust his word when he says that PC does not suffer from the popin issues but still has the no dirt and blood bug.
I think this game looks beautiful even on PS4, I enjoy riding through the forests and just enjoy the sunlight and so on. But moving faster than walking speed when entering Sassau or Rattay is really crazy at the moment.
YES! Thank you for this post and I am thrilled that it is taking off! I have experienced absolutely terrible game performance after the 1.6 update on consoles (Iām on the base ps4). Itās truly disappointing because 1.5 seemed to be a step in the right direction. It wasnāt perfect, but the game world seemed a lot more stable, and pop in on large scale objects was reduced.
Enter version 1.6. Holy moly. The game has never performed more terribly, and Iām going all the way back to launch day as a reference. Entering Rattay is a complete eyesore. The southern gate walls flicker in and out of existence. Objects on the ground render into existence right before Henrys eyes. Itās bad, really bad.
The northern rattay gate is even worse, if thatās believable. Taking the northern gate area at a full gallop on horseback literally breaks the game. Objects disappear and then reappear, buildings render in pieces at a time, entire sections of the ground flicker in and out existence. Itās hard to remain immersed when you can see through the floor of the game world.
Itās really bad, and Iām glad that this is the top post on the official warhorse forums. This needs to be addressed asap.
and responding to gjSterpka, I believe that the problems are strictly game related. Why do I believe that? Well, look as what is consistent among all of these issues. Most people are in agreement that the game ran better on 1.5, and regressed horrifically after 1.6.
But Iāll humor you.
I have about six games loaded on my 500 GB PS4 (300-500 gigs full)
No idea about playing time total, probably thousands
about 35 hours on this playthrough of KCD
Launch day PS4
No mods
No mods
The game ran better with 1.5, the game runs like absolute poo after 1.6.
This, exactly this!
playin KCD on PC, graphics all on ultra - no graphic bugs so far. I have dirt, blood and all other effects. and i have no mods. lowest FPS i have are50 inside rattay, all other areas are playable with constant 60 fps.
@GJSterpka -cheers for bringing this up. It is relevant.
Oh shit I hate the font on ipadā¦ everything is in capitals, and capitals are just BIGGER. Whack.
For the record- I have just jumped ship from a teeny tiny android device (using on screen for typing) to a large tablet with a bluetooth keyboard. Whilst I will go to effort to keep my posts small (I can type quick and have a penchant for rambles)ā¦ My efforts should now include some sort of proof readā¦ and I may start using some of this forums more advanced functions. )LOOK OUT! =D
With regards to GJSā questionsā¦ they are vital as we need to ascertain what situations lead to specific performance issues. (Know the cause and we can remove the symptoms)
Of course it is way more complex than just asking how many gamesā¦
WoT, I assume to be World of Tanks. That is an online game that gets LOTS OF UPDATES (I guess)?
Some users also use their consoles as Netflix boxes (and netflix allows downloading of SOME of their library for later watching etcā¦ )
There is just so many things that can truncate data over a users drive.
Of course it is a bad time to investigate this as, specific to the present build is a range of issues exacerbating these issues.
So no point investigating this too heavily right now.
Per usual, myself and many other caring individuals on this forum encourage users to delete existing game installs and redownload new full game with any large patch.
If a patch is only a few hundred megabytes its ability to fragment the game is somewhat limitedā¦ and probably isnāt worth the time/cost of a full fresh download.
Clean downloads doesnāt ensure non fragmented data.
Fragmented data will of course vastly exacerbate present issues *hence again why users are having a range of differing scenarios with regards to performance and issues.
The great thing is that Warhorse do continue to strive towards upgrading their product and make changes to improve the performance on the consoles.
If the reported lowering of texture quality was actually from editing texture sizesā¦ that is a sizable amount of work that MANY studios would never do after shipping a product.
That Frel has confirmed (today) that 1.7 will have fixes (So say WH), we can sit back a bit and let the changes consume us.
Of course anyone that wants to take responsibility for their consoles performance have a few things they can do to improve streaming performanceā¦ but instead of taking the typical flak of āits on them, its not meā (a very human nature response), I wont push an agendaā¦
I would say it is them, not us.
This thread has over 100 posts, and they all seem to fit the same narrative, which can be summed up into one sentence:
āMy game ran fine before 1.6 was installed.ā
I take immaculate care of my console, itās the launch day PS4, and the reason itās still running strong is because I take such good care of it. I clean the fan regularly and clear the cache daily.
Or, if you like, you could come over, and Iāll pop in Horizon Zero Dawn, take the open world at full gallop on a Strider, and then pop in KCD and take the open world at full gallop on Pebbles and see how they compare.
My console must just be prejudice to Warhose. My insolent console, choosing certain games to run flawlessly while boycotting texture rendering in Kingdom Come.
Like i said, I personally have had a fraction of the issues w/ my game and console that other poor unfortunates have reported.
Brand new PS4, bought for KC:D, so I have exactly one game loaded.
Comparing those two games actually removes any need for me to argue with you.
Cleary you have no idea about what you are talking about.
Apples and oranges are the same thing as they both come from trees.
Come around my backyard will prove it.
So if you had two cars, one was a Lamborghini, and one was Pinto, and you raced them around the same track in the same conditions, youād blame the track when the Pinto made a slower time?
And youāre right, it is like comparing apples to oranges. For $60, only one of those games runs well, guess which.
Check this out, video evidence on reddit. Details all the issues many people are having. Iām experiencing the exact same issues around Rattay.
Time Crisis and Doom are the same.
You shoot things in both of them.
