Terrible Console Performance

Oh, sad numbers indeed. I play on console so I had no idea of those numbers. I can just say that pre 1.6 this game was the bomb among my friends. Just like for me, the game took them back to our childhoods and when we played pen and paper role playing games

Now me and to my knowledge also my friends are awaiting the 1.7 update to make the blood and dirt come back and hopefully mitigate the pop in issues that was much better in 1.5 compared to 1.6

I hope the steam numbers will change as I sincerely believe this game to be awesome and as I now do not want to play it because of said bugs, I talk about it and tell everyone I know to buy it as fast as the mentioned issues is rectified.

Every patch same thing every time, they release a patch and pretty much all that patch does is add bugs and fuck shit up. Then itā€™s it will be fixed in the next patch and the cycle continues.

Its not as bad as the stats make it to be.

Many who bought it are patient to wait for a proper working release until they invest (unfrustrated) time into the game.

The large updates is what killed the game for steam metrics.

Rolling out, on average, a 20Gb patch every month (that steam forces updating to) when much of the world has limited/costly internet costs means gamers, like myself, fiercely break KCD from being ā€˜onlineā€™ with steam.

According to steam I probably havent got enough playtime in to even have rolled the opening credits.

Those large patches and a steam frontend change in January that made updating compulsory killed steam metrics for this title.

The buzz in the street for this game is huge.
Those numbers cannot be correct or else all those players would have to be in my town for me to keep ā€˜bumping intoā€™ active players as I frequently seem to do.

Once a solid game experience is delivered and that fact gets pressed; playerbase will return en mass - at least for a playthrough/test for themselves.

Statistics, damned lies and statistics.

XBox One Patch 1.5

Last night I just noticed the pixelated textures of blood on my sword. Hadnā€™t noticed it before. Maybe I wasnā€™t paying attention? I doubt it.
187 hours into the game. Eliminating unneeded "Save"s and items in my inventory including Henry, Pebbles and chest.
Expierencing more momentary frame freezes but NO crashes. Iā€™ll call it stutter of forward movement, but thankfully I have not seen any side to side jitter when panning, yet.

One odd thing the game has been doing upon start up, after viewing the Introduction, and at the Game Main Menu, if I choose ā€œContinueā€, the console loads the last save for Player 2.
I have to choose Load Game, highlight Player 1, and choose my last save to load the correct save, every time.
Not game breaking, but an unnecessary waste of time.

Iā€™d like to see them disable the rain until they get the pixelation fixed in some future patch.
Itā€™s annoying. The game would be better without rain, until fixed.
And the blacksmithā€™s wife sitting in the rain an sewing?
Iā€™ve seen people in Sassau running in the heavy rain while others are oblivious to it.
Immersion be damned?

I had great performance on 1.5, but things went to hell with 1.6. Even after weeks of in game days, hunted animals are not disappearing.

1.6 was and is a disaster, I am getting tired to wait for an update that makes things ok again.

I kinda disagree with this part of your post (but I do enjoy them most of the time) but most console owners know the only obvious upgrade to your console (and only upgrade to your console) is a ssd.

Also why is it the job of the console gamer to better understand how to optimize their console. Thatā€™s why you buy a console in the first place, its a convenient easy set up that requires minimal tech skill, and most gaming companies know this, which is why they optimize their game for the the console. This is something WH has not done. So itā€™s not up to the console gamer to learn how to do this, itā€™s up to the games dev team.

Good post ant my sentiment exactly. It does not matter how well one maintains ones console when a patch like 1.6 comes and downgrade everything that actually worked.

Lol Yk the thing is (some of us*) are tech savy. Just because we play a particular game on a console, does not make it the only piece of gaming equipment we own. I for one have a foot in both camps. I have a decent desktop gaming rig, I also have a gaming laptop, but I choose to buy this game on ps4 for my pro (I thought it would be a fairly decent experience) ā€¦well obvously itā€™s not, and in hind sight I should have waited to see more reviews and maybe have picked up the PC version. Possibly an error of my own judgement, but what about all those unlike me who donā€™t have the options of other gaming devices? This game just needs better optimization.

Yk I was just watching the WH live stream for the dlc they posted on YouTube about an hour ago. I was reading one of the comments somebody made. It went to the tune of ā€œwell I assume they playing this game in their video on a half decent PC, but I see popins of grass and trees as they enter Privytslavitz, so popins see to be just as much of a problem on PCā€

So I went back in the video and looked for the specific area they were commenting about, as sure as day, there was the popins. Lol this is on a PC being played by WH devs themselvesšŸ™ˆ

Just for anyone doubting my claims on the various platforms I play on

or, itā€™s up to the devs to state the unique demands/requirements placed on the console by their game

Nice setup mate! I do not myself have a good gaming PC anymore but I used to buy a new one every second year just to be able to play on ultra settings. Well, letā€™s say that children and a wife changes ones priorities. and as my wife is from Japan and we need to go there at least once a year and that is not exactly free, I no longer updates my PC. So for convenience I play mostly or almost exclusively on my ps4-pro nowadays, except some classics like ā€œShogun 2 TWā€ as I never get tired of that game with the DLC ā€œFall of the Samuraiā€.

But Just like you I know how to take care of my things and I do believe most console players do, at least so a sufficient enough level. The PC-master race BS that some people like to brag about is just not true.

The way KCD runs on PS4 and PS4-pro at the moment and all the lacking visuals of blood and dirt is definitely on WHs side to fix.

Same here with regards to updating PC. The last upgrade I did to the PC was a gtx 1080 Ti. I t was just over a year ago. I game on the go mostly on the laptop mid to high settings ( game dependant). I have not tied the knot yet so Iā€™m still pretty free with my spending, but I can understand that having a family sets them as priority no. 1

Iā€™m comparing KDC with assassin creed origins, huge open world you can travel around in.
zero poppins in ACO, crazy amount in KDC. To me itā€™s the engine, the cry Engine is really an dated engine, just look at star citizen, same issues, only if you got small areas the engine seams to handle it. I blame the engine.

Yeah that is really silly, people sitting happily outside in the rain doing stuff, really not that good, should run indoors or cover themselves.

The engine is of course one of the many parts of the equation that creates these issues. I have ACO on my PS4-pro and as you say, it runs perfectly compared to KCD. The same can be said about HorizonZD and many more games to be honest.

In the end though, I will accept that KCD will not run as good on PS4 as on a PC obviously but I do not think it is acceptable that an ā€œupdateā€ made the game worse in more or less any and every regard. I want my dirt and blood back on the armour and clothing, I do not want the blood on my sword and the rain to look like Minecraft and the pop ins existed in 1.5 but they where not catastrophically to the immersion as they are post 1.6

We really do need a 1.7 and that is fast.

Oh donā€™t get me wrong, I agree with you, Itā€™s just the engine is not the best engine anymore.

It is one of the best engines for rendering nature.

Most games avoid nature.

Try making a tree out of triangles.

Maybe a palm tree?
Very hard.

Now make a building out of triangles.
Easy.

Building is large and we need less of themā€¦

Foliage?
Cant see the forrest for the trees: something this game achieves; especially the forum goers who donā€™t hve n idea about tech/engines.

If anyone thinks this post has attitude; its to meet the attitude of the muppets who think their opinion dissing cryengine for a gme with wilderness is a bad idea.

Its a great idea. One I waited ten years to see. (Ever since crysis launched)

Iā€™ve seen just as good forest in other games, with less popping, the engine clearly got issues as we see it in other games using this engine.

I agree with you totally. I would dare say nature in HZD looks better than in KCD and HZD performs way smoother and with almost no bugs. If there where any bugs in HZD, they always patched it more or less instantly.

Do not get me wrong, KCD is still a beautiful game and one of the most entertaining games, when it works as intended that is. The bugs plaguing the game right now makes me not wan to play it and until WH has fixed the issues earlier mentioned, I cannot really recommend anyone on console to buy it right now. This is sad since I already made a bunch of my friends buy it and I work with people all over the world, so normally as a historian and a gamer this would be the first game I would recommend.
