The massive graphic downgrade is real. And here is proof (with screenshot)

It’s amazing … :sleepy:

Ok, I’m doing this now

Graphics in beta looks different because they used some experimental functions like Voxel-Based Global Illumination (SVOTI)

Here’s my video from beta

thanks for this information. This different is very huge. And GI is not good for performance, i can understand thats impossible to use in open world game. SVOTI looks great.
But Cryengine have other good Shader like AO to make it beautifull. I miss it or have tomatoes on my eyes.

It’s done. Tell me what do you think about it. Cheers

It is still in the game.
Look at for example difference in lighting, when door is closed and opened:

Yeah I was real disappointed when I loaded up the game. Kept thinking there was some graphic setting I was missing, like how could it look so different? There’s none of that sort of ambient light from the sky and tree canopy, it’s just flat lit area or flat shadowed area. The colors are off too, like some of the grass and vegetation is way too saturated and seem to be lacking even specular highlights. I really thought this would be the one game that didn’t compromise.

Yes, i’ve noticed that to, but it looks different in the forest

Do you think it will be possible to return the trees, greenery, leaves, shrubs and lighting that were in the beta version?

Probably because vegetation is much denser in Beta, so you get darker shadows.
And of course without volumetric fog and proper vegetation shader, lighting in forests looks completely different.
Lighting by itself might be different, but I’m not sure about it.

possible but not likely. They first have to fix the performance.

I would love to hear from Warhorse which were the reasons for the downgrade. I get that is a question of optimization, but it can’t be only this. I mean the old vegetation models werent extremly more complex, they were simply better in my opinion…Color saturation has also no effect on performance itself, but it has been changed also… I think this game is great and it looks stunning anyway… but those who played the beta know how it could h ave looked… Please Warhorse, could you please explain this?

Downgrade: "Decline, as in fortune, status, or condition: a neighborhood on the downgrade. "

Reduction is literally a synonym, You’re literally just arguing semantics. Reducing something is downgrading it, there was a downgrade for performance on some systems, people on higher end systems are unhappy.

I love the game just the same but I hate people who can’t even be honest in their discussions.

I want such a forest, but the fact that now it’s a disappointment.

Yes exactly.

How was I being dishonest?

Downgrade in context to gaming carries a very specific connotation of catering to consoles performance at the expense of the PC quality. This is why I chose to specify using a word that generally doesn’t carry the same connotation.

There was changes made yes, but not because of consoles and not for any other reason then to improve performance all around.

From Beta to Alpha there were thousands of glorious butterflies that had to almost be removed completely because they were causing a memory leak when the advanced AI was added.

Words can have similar meanings and yet not be the same, this is how the concept of semantics came into being.

I’ll bet there will still be people who say this looks the same and there was no downgrade.

I don’t know if the team will explain anything, but in any case I wouldn’t expect any change now the game is released. They already have a lot of work to do in terms of optimisations first (And I hope they will work on that).

What is reasonably possible is a talented modding team to work on graphic improvements.

A shame, yes but it still looks good enough to me.

Personally I’m more annoyed by the other things that have been cut. Polearms and crossbows for example. Horseriding NPCs and who knows what else.

Two very good videos !

To begin with can someone extract contrast values from the beta version ? (I don’t know if this is possible right now but it could help)

It is necessary to change the trees, shrubs and leaves as it seems to me, 3d models are quite different, also lighting in the beta version as if quite another more voluminous. After the beta version is hard to perceive a flat picture of the release version
